Just wasted a good 5 minutes of my life typing a response to a post - assisting someone who needed some help - and when I submitted it
WHAM!! I get the message -
Access denied - you are not logged in you fool - try clicking back to get your message or refresh to send it again
Go on fool - I double dare you!!
Effin. Great. My post lost to the ether by the POS that is the Unity forums.
Well I can't be bothered to post it again, so the person who I was helping just lot out - sorry! - A crying shame too since this place really needs more input.
But whilst I'm here I might as well have a little whinge.
AJAX
It is supposed to enhance the user experience - not cause issues with it. There is such a thing as a little too much. This place (and Dolphin) seem a little too much like someone has just discovered how to use it and so everything has to be written using AJAX calls. This is great for sub page navigation functions (it's original intent), but COMPLETELY SUCKS for form submission as once submitted you lose the data into the ether. (see earlier reference to POS)
So, unless you intend to write a decent error handler that captures the submitted data and stores it for use in the event of an error - ie when you apparently get automatically logged out by the POS software - lets just revert to the time tested way of doing things and drop trying to handle form data with AJAX - you're only saving fractions of a second and it makes your software seem like it's permanently broken.
NEW GAME
So - considering that my last little game of posting to a thread every time there was an error with the forum spy seemed to jog someone into actually fixing the damn thing - I propose the same thing again...
If you get the Access Denied - you are not logged in type message - Just come to this thread and let Boonex know!!!!!!!
Last time we even managed to break the forums :)
Happy Gaming
