A legal complaint?? anyone had this?

Had an email from a user just then in regards to data protection and permissions.

here is what she said:

Hi In the registration process you asked for a screen ' known by' name, I selected Ruralantics but now you are displaying my full name on your site as a member. I'm not sure on data protection law, but I don't think you can do that without requesting my permission?

Im not sure what to reply as im in the middle of something lol

Actually - that should be in your terms of service (tos) or disclaimer on your site.  If someone is concerned they can use their nickname in both the name and "know as" field.

It is funny how much info people share on FaceBook and other places but are worried about their name on your site.

I know. I think she is expecting an accept terms box to tick on sign up? but what i read on privacy page at the bottom is by signing up to our website they agree to having it be displayed.

Thing is though I got my site set to display full name and not nick name... it won't display mixed?

This is one of the things that Boonex decided in their great wisdom to change without asking the community for input.  Additional code should have been added to handle fullname instead of changing the code to fullname.  Boonex should have realised how this could affect current sites that would upgrade to 7.2.    As for FaceSucks, people are idiots for allowing FaceSucks to do what they do; all because "I want to keep in touch with my family" BS.

If one does not read the TOS, then they are at fault.  That is why the TOS is on the form; if someone checks it without actually reading the TOS then that is their stupidity; just look at the millions that installed Windows 10 without reading the 50 some odd pages of TOS that gives MicroCrap the right to collect and store on their servers users information, eamils, calendars, etc.

Below is the legacy version of the Boonex site, maintained for Dolphin.Pro 7.x support.
The new Dolphin solution is powered by UNA Community Management System.
