Plesk sucks!
That pretty much sums it up.

It's not as easy to use as cPanel, but it has its charms. BoonEx Certified Host: Zarconia.net - Fully Supported Shared and Dedicated for Dolphin |

Plesk is not free, neither is cPanel. Geeks, making the world a better place |
RE: it has its charms
Yeah? Name one. An interface to control PHP handler and settings for individual sites, built-in firewall management...
Not saying its interface still isn't a mess compared to cPanel's. BoonEx Certified Host: Zarconia.net - Fully Supported Shared and Dedicated for Dolphin |
I have Plesk with a Zarconia dedicated. It does suck overall but it is free. WHM/Cpanel costs substantially more. I would not be able to have a $49 dedicated with CPanel, but I can with Plesk. It certainly isn't as good as CPanel and it is a mess to move around in but eventually, you can get most tasks handled. http://towtalk.net ... Hosted by Zarconia.net! |

I foolishly had Plesk added to the dedicated; had to have the dedi pulled and reloaded to remove the mess. I did not have weeks to learn the mess. Two of us; not exactly noobs, could not get a simple vHost setup. I use webmin, phpMyAdmin, and SSH into the server and can do anything I need to do. I can set up a new vHost on Nginx in a matter of minutes; including writing the config file and restarting Nginx. Plus, the tools mention are very low on server resources. The way Plesk handles subdomains is AFU. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |

I can do DOS 2.0 (can you?) but have no idea how to SSH and don't have the time to learn those commands either. Having said that, I never said I liked Plesk, I also think it sucks and would rather just have Cpanel and WHM but cannot afford them right now.... http://towtalk.net ... Hosted by Zarconia.net! |

Having said that, I never said I liked Plesk, I also think it sucks and would rather just have Cpanel and WHM but cannot afford them right now.... Actually, yes, I know DOS. There are some reference manuals on my shelves and I have written batch files. What I was trying to say was not that you were lacking in skills; if it came off that way then I apologise. Before I got the dedi, it had been a long time since I worked at the Unix shell level, even then it was more forced and I was more than happy to be on a workstation with X Windows. I had to do a lot of reading on the net to get back to a basic level. I have looked at WHM and I hated it as well. It depends on what you are going to do with the server. In my case I will never be reselling and so don't really need anything more that what I listed. Again, please accept my apologies. Geeks, making the world a better place |
I didn't take any offense, just stating how much I really don't know. Although I've probably been around longer than you (lol) I remember writing basic scripts on the fly to play a game called TradeWars 2002. (still play it today, btw. If you do a google search for "Master Blaster, The Evil Commander" you'll probably find a couple photos of me from days past) I like WHM because I've been using it for years and understand what each of the funny picture icons are for (lol). Now you'll knoiw where my avatar came from. http://tradewars.fament.com/Cruncher/Master.htm http://towtalk.net ... Hosted by Zarconia.net! |
