A few questions...

Hi,

I am very interested in using Dolphin on a couple of my websites, but I have a couple of questions....

1. Is it possible to have a 100% private community, where only registered members of the site can see what is going on inside? Is it possible to prevent anyone registering at all?

2. Is it possible to have different "user groups"? Example, I have 30 members, I want 10 of those members to be able to upload files, attach docs, crate polls etc... and the other 20 members can only read, vote in polls and download files.

3. Is there a way to quickly add members via the admin control panel without filling in email addresses etc..?

4. If I set up a site using just the "branded" templates, will I have to download another script if I decide to pay and go for the unbranded option, or is it a case of editing the original files?

I think thats it for now! I'm sure I'll have other questions along the way though!

Thanks
Smile

  1. There are mods in the market which can further restrict access to those not logged in which you may want to look at (by default, you can limit direct access to resources, such as profiles, but browse pages are still visible).
  2. You can create new membership levels with different permissions, which then can have their own access limitations (such as availability of the specific permission and how many times it can be used within x hours, etc.). You can also create paid membership levels for a premium system of sorts.
  3. This isn't available in the default package, and I'm not aware of a mod for this. If you need this feature, you can have it developed by posting a job in the jobs section of the site.
  4. If you're referring to the advertisements displayed on free installations, these will go away automatically as soon as you link a paid license to the site. If you're referring to any branding by a template creator, it's up to them and their terms.

I recommend you create a test installation (licenses aren't mandatory) and mess around a bit, so you can get a feel of the system before committing yourself to it.

Thank you for the quick reply!

I will have a play around with it and see what it can do.

Just another quick one... I cannot see the "forum" in the package I have downloaded. Is that a separate download, or something that has to be paid for?

Thanks again

You can install available modules from Administration > Tools > Modules.
