A Reason why Dolphin isn't more established?

I know the Topic of Categories has been brought up before but I can't help wondering if Dolphin's lack of options when it comes to Categories & particularly the lack of Sub Categories is almost the single reason why it isn't more widely recognized as a leading contender for creating Social Media sites.

I noticed a long standing member comment recently on the number of adult or dating sites created with Dolphin & his despair why other more interesting topics are not created. Well, my site is neither adult nor dating but I have to admit the lack of Sub Categories is creating a headache with almost every module in the Dolphin Core & this could be an answer why more meaningful sites are not created using Dolphin.

As a site creator, when you have to try to figure out a way round the problem & assuming you do manage it, the question then is, is it user friendly? How do you explain to members who give you feedback, that you agree with them a particular area of your site would be better off & more user friendly with sub categories but it isn't possible? As the only platform not having any form of Sub Categories in any area of it's Core files & with no plans to include it any time soon, can anyone from Boonex advise their reasoning behind this? Believe me, it really does cause a headache developing more meaningful communities & making them look both Professional & Organized!

What module do you need sub-cats in?

There are a number of 3rd party modules that have cats-subcats covering lots of different possible uses.

All the main modules....Videos, Sounds, News, Articles, Groups, Pages, I could go on. Whether there are modules available to replace the Core isn't so much the issue when sub categories is a basic standard on all other platforms. When you have a good basic solid platform to begin with, you can then build on that by adding the excellent modules that Developers take time out to create. You shouldn't have to add additional modules to obtain that basic solid platform.

I don't begrudge buying modules but the cost of a license, added to the cost of hosting, added to the cost of modules (which I have a list of about 20 in total) means you need deep pockets or else you won't complete your projects for some time. The latter, I'm afraid appears to be why so many people join the Dolphin Community with good intentions of creating an amazing site then give up not long after.

I agree, there are some excellent modules out there for improving the basic release & you can receive some excellent support from hard core members of this community from which I have learned a lot, coupled with my learning of basic PHP. However, additional modules shouldn't be required just to bring the core up to standard on a product that's license fee is considerably more than the majority of other platforms, in my view.

Are you always so rude when commenting on posts? I suggest you do a little more research before you comment in future & make yourself more stupid than you already have! I know of many that are just as versatile & A LOT cheaper! There are very few that are as expensive actually if you take each one & create a site to the same level of basic features. Nowhere have I mentioned anything about beyond that & the excellent modules Developers create, I'm talking about basic functions. Most of Dolphins core features you can get with most other platforms....you might want to re-read the thread!!

I don't know, but the chat/webcam chat mod alone would cost you an arm and leg with other CMS software already.
