Clone your original site and apply update, if all is ok then do production site(s.)

Oh. wait.

I forgot about all those mods that need source changes. So yea. If you have any of those then yes. Those may break because the edits will have to be done again. But that is normal and happens on most all updates.

So do what newton suggested.

Could be done. But not in the same folder. The webserver can only write to directories that have been setup that way.

I have been wanting to add CRC checking for quite some time now. At least to be able to do a check to make sure all files were uploaded successfully on new installs. Thats were a lot of problems occur. People upload and install dolphin and it does not run right and blame the software. Which in 99% of all cases it is a improper server configuration or a damaged or missing file. At least until they start modifying it. Then 99% of all problems are user error.
