7.07 username spaces

Ok, I got one! (lol)

I just uploaded and installed 7.07 on my server. During the setup process, I successfully set my username as

Master Blaster (note the space)

Now, I go into my profile to complete it and it won't let me save my profile. I keep getting the error message that only letters _ & - are allowed, no spaces.

Can I just go into the block and change the restrictions or are there other reasons there are no spaces allowed in the names?

Cool

I'm calling this a bug because if the system doesn't allow spaces, then the initial setup screen that does allow it needs to be fixed.

You can't have spaces in your username because parts of the script will freak out and eat your family. It isn't pretty. I believe there's a ticket for display names in Dolphin 8.

So you're right about the installation part being a bug, but the other part is a justified limitation.

You're also a premium member, which means you have the luxury of creating a ticket for this and bypassing the forums.

I've been a premium member for some time and have never submitted a ticket yet, why should i start now?

Because I'm going to ignore all future bug reports from you for trying to make my day more difficult.

LOL! Ok, you asked for it. I'm always finding something wrong and am a prolific poster.

Plus, I'll probably find a way to screw up the ticket system in general...

Cool

the most logical approach, though i dont think kyrgz logic is in the 21 Century, is to look for the space in the name, and if the space exists, then add a hyphen or underscore, but allow the displayed name to have a result of the name with a space.

or add a field in the database DisplayAs: nickname_with_spaces

thats hideously trivial though you are correct, it should not allow spaces in the installation, though the installation does not run through the same setup parameters as are prescribed for user interaction.

lay it down like this to you, as you recall the old style carburetor engines. the engine would start if you poured gasoline into the carburetor, though it would not continue to run. so you needed to have additional components, such as a fuel pump, and fuel tank. similarly speaking, naming conventions on the dolphin platform when considering spaces in the name, you need additional components (programming) to make the system run.

anywho, just thought i would rattle your cage on this one.

use an underscore
