3000+ New Members in one day

I was looking around some Dolphin Seven websites and found one that gets the odd few members a day, then all of a sudden on one day got 3000+ new members... How did they do it I wonder?

They are using a fake profile modification, which recently caused some of us (namely myself) to go on a restrictive-support strike. The modification has already been removed from the Market, but for those still using it, I am continuing denying support to these individuals.

These types of modifications are considered to be deceitful and in some cases, even illegal. I advise you (and everyone else for that matter) use legitimate and goodwill practices when building your community.

I think that they are also using the Fake profiles online mod cause its showing 300 of them fake profiles as online.

And most or the profiles have pictures..

They are deceiving people!!

I don't really care for your accusations Magnussoft. I've already addressed this in an email to you.  I'm not charging one dime for my site.  It is a totally free site.  What you continue to fail to see is that we are growing in members, we've still had a growth of 319 members in one month. Do tell me if you can what exactly I got out of "deceiving"someone..  We are providing a free service to our users.  If I was taking something from them, I can understand you libel comments.  Iancashiredates, thanks for bringing attention to our site.  We have had 30 hits thanks to this post and a few of those signed up.

If for one minute you think match.com and plentyoffish started with one profile and grew what they are today, you are mistaken.  I've followed their business plan to a t.  So while I'm growing on a daily basis, you can continue to hate on the site.

I also think this is an orchestrated attack against my site as you guys have no time lag between your discussion in this thread at all.  Your post are like one minute after each other.

Indeed, you have contacted me in a private message, after also deleting your blog post where I called you out on your growth claims. And even still, my stance remains, that what you are doing is simply immoral, deceitful and above all, a disservice to those who may actually join your web site (and remain). Regarding your comments on Match.com and Plentyoffish.com, I see you haven't read that Match.com has just faced a lawsuit for using deceitful practices such as what you yourself are doing. Tell me if you still want to follow their business plan to a "T."

I hope you are happy with this topic existing, as thanks to the immense amount of search engine optimization by BoonEx, this topic shall be amongst the top results when anyone searches for your web site.

You are the one claiming I used fake profiles.  Not I.  I hope this does show up in Google. I can use the hits! You have your right to your opinion and that is exactly what it is.  There are no facts to your libel comments and it is an assumption.  As to you boycotting my site and helping me, it seems you are a little obsessed with it. I'm not going to lower myself to your level, if you wish to voice a complaint, email me or give me a call.  Don't take the cowardly way out and use a board to flame me nor the site.

I am not claiming that you are using a fake profile modification, as the proof is all over your web site. Take for example, Theresa (http://datesofplenty.com/Theresa). The easiest way to identify a fake profile modification, as I also told you in a private message, is that they will say "I'll tell you later" in any area where information is required. I am not obsessed with either you, or your web site, but I do reply to topics where people address me. I am neither flaming you, nor your web site, but you most certainly are attempting such a practice on your own.

A public forum is not a "cowardly way out." On the contrary, to not hide behind the veil of private messages, and to allow everyone to see your words, more so to stand by them, it shows you are most definitely not a coward.

As said before in numerous places, I do not wish to control others, and those using such modifications are welcome to do so. However, it does mean that I will refuse support to these individuals, but it is in no way a personal matter against those using these modifications. But if you wish to call me out on such things, then by all means, I will reply and focus on you.

I can't help what users put in their profiles.  I am having a hard enough time staying up with the growth of my site.  Thanks for taking the time and browsing the site!

As a tidbit, match is getting sued because it deceived their users into paying money for a site.  Our site is free, and if our users are trying to deceive someone into contacting them, I hope that person will let our staff know so we can review their profile and delete it if needed.

We offer a great service to our users.  Many who enjoy it often thank us for providing a service to them for free!

Sure we will have growing pains, and as with any new company that starts, mistakes will be made along the way, I can assure when mistakes are made by our staff, the will be corrected.

Hope you have a great Easter!

How can you be following the business plans of Match.com and Plentyoffish.com?  Match.com is a 100% Paid Site that chooses to NOT run ads on it and Plentyoffish.com is a Free site that generates it's income from ads and (up until just the past year) did NOT charge anyone for anything.  Even now that pof.com does charge, it's still a limited amount of charging and has no impact on your ability to communicate with others.

So how can you follow both when they are both completely and totally opposite one another?

Seriously.... what are the odds?   I'll tell you later

I presume fake profile generators have a number of different descriptions so that they add just a little variety.  Even though that search returns only 38 hits, ask yourself.... what are the odds that 38 people would use the same line in both the headline and description.... and not one of them put a period after the line in 76 instances?

Next, take a look at this google search: Click Here You will find that, for any profile on one of those sites, there is an identical profile on the other site.  The only reason they ALL don't show up in the search, is because google probably hasn't indexed them.

These profiles are ALL FAKE and I think it's laughable that someone would try to convince us otherwise.  These profile generator mods need to go away..... there's even a mod that let's you create imaginary friends for all those imaginary profiles...GMAFB.

@datesofplenty - so are you using fake profiles or not?  It seems like you are saying something like "I'm not doing it, but if I was it would be ok".

I wish there was more discussion here about how to grow our sites honestly- my sites are growing far too slowly.   I think most of the people who are successful in getting qualified registrations easily don't necessarily want to reveal their recipe, and most of them seldom post here.  An example is this guy: http://www.ustillup.com he posted a while ago that he was growing at 200 users per day.   I just looked and it looks like he has 12,000 members now - that is certainly not bad.   I'm not sure what the formula is - or even if there is one, but most seem to have some "angle" that attracts new users.    Any other thoughts on this?

I started off with another dating script (ablespace) about 1 1/2 years ago.  I then went to my library and bookstore and took out every book I could find on SEO (Search Engine Optimization). I had over 35,000 members before I switched to Dolphin 7.  Very, very long story why I started completely over.

The first thing I figured out was how important keywords are.  This is how people find your site through organic search results.  I decided to optimize my site for "singles chat", since nobody is looking in Google for social networking site. If you look in Google.com right now, I should be third (next only to chat-avenue).  I also rank high for singles chat rooms, dating chat, and dating chat rooms.  Right now I rank around 55 for "chat rooms" in Google.com - My goal is to get into the top 10 before August.  I will achieve this goal by getting lots of links on related sites using the words "chat rooms" in the anchor text. However, it's important not to always use the same keywords in your anchor text.  You got to make it look "organic".

I know my site is not just chat rooms, but I needed to pick keywords that will bring me lots of visitors.  It's a lot easier to get to the top for chat rooms, than for dating or free dating. Keyword research is so important, because you don't want to finally get to be number one for keywords that nobody searches for (I did this at first with "night chat" and "late night chat").

I would be more than happy to give somebody free SEO advice.  I try to keep my knowledge as current as possible by following some of the top SEO blogs and forums.  However, I am no expert and will never sell my services.  I have a full time job, and running a handful of websites is just a hobby.

@JasonVan - thanks for the advice offer- any more is always appreciated.  I'm wondering though if "Single's chat" is just a hot area?  You can't step in the same river twice, as the Zen Buddhist's say.   Also, yes, I am a little interested in why you would start all over - you really gave up 35,000 members?   Why didn't you try to transfer them?

Rob

p.s. by the way, notice that on Jason's site he doen't even show the number of users on his home page - I had to register and log in to see that, so the idea that you have to use fake profiles to grow your site may not be all that valid.

This is another nice way of having people register , especially when you are starting with only little content.

I know this is going tp piss people off but really guys .... who gives a shit? If he wants to tell people his site has 14, 987,987,876 members, let him. It's his site. I personally don't care. What I care about is his problem. By helping him with his problem, you are also providing valuable information to others who may be watching this post for a resolution to their problems.

I think that anyone telling anyone else what they can and can't do with their site on the internet is just foolish and a waste of time. If we start trying to censor people because of the content of their site, where does it stop? There is only one true rule when it comes to the internet and how it should be used and that rule is there are no rules.

Just for the record. The Internet has a very unique way of flushing the garbage all on it's own. It does not need our help in any fashion to complete this task.

Yeah, a blog might be a good idea.  And yes, "singles chat" etc. was what I went for.  Everybody here should pick their keywords based on their niche.  But just make sure that these keywords get adequate searches.  You won't believe how many people in SEO forums brag about getting to the top for keywords that nobody every searches for.  Who cares if you're #1 in Google for "perfect dating".  Nobody searches for "perfect dating" (well, almost nobody).  Once you've carefully chosen your keywords, you need to include them in your title tags, alt tags, meta tags, etc.  You also need to carefully use them throughout your website (especially on your index page).  You want to do it, but not overdo it.

Acquiring links from relevant, trustworthy, high PR sites is the most important part of SEO.  This is also the hardest.  This is definitely a good topic for a blog.

So basically your saying that plentoffish and match used loads of fake profiles to start with, and because they did it's ok for you to do it?

This is not an orchestrated attack it was just me making a remark at how you managed to get 3000+ new members in one day! care to share your secret?

I see that you have removed your calendar now so as not to show the evidence.

You might also want to remove these:

http://datesofplenty.com/m/photos/calendar/2010/3

or

http://datesofplenty.com/categories.php?action=calendar (look at March)

or

http://datesofplenty.com/tags.php?action=calendar (look at March)

Really you should also remove the link to the 377 Fake online members, all with photo's and headlines and descriptions that read "I'll tell you later" that are showing as online at the moment as well.

Statistically though if one of your real users was to send a message to any profile at your website, they would have a 91% chance of getting in touch with one of your FakesOfPlenty.

If you have no need to deceive anyone then don't...

@HoustonLively google only shows 38 hits of "I'll tell you later" because it doesn't want too much duplicate content in its search results.

Dave....

Since we are the subject of SEO, we've been working on that for the last month.  Our site is generating more traffic each day.  Our numbers are up in every which way.  If you want to call the 3000 on one day fake, so be it, that is your opinion.  However, the site numbers are 3312.  3000 or 312 in one month is great!

The site is not ghost town nor ever will.  I'm sorry you can't access the site anymore.  Makes me sad.  Thanks to this posting, I had over 1000 hits and you increased our popularity ranking today.  So thanks.

That being said, for those who want to grow their site, it takes work.  I will add that we added taken over or acquired another site this past month.  We have purchased ads with Facebook and Google.  Facebook ads while pretty cheap, (.58 a click) has provided quite a bit of traffic.

I honestly don't care what a few people on Boonex think, and they have every right to their opinion.  Even though I feel that they have targeted me with this thread, I welcome it.

5 Apr 2010

I'd thread very carefully where you are heading.  Do not make assumptions that our site is using illegal means to add profiles.  It is illegal and I suggest you delete that reply and start a new topic with it.  A lot of people may assume you are saying we use illegal software since it is in this thread, which we do not.   Honestly,  you guys have a problem with me, call me, or come visit me out in Tomball and I'll take you to dinner and we can discuss this.  However, the libel comments really need to stop.

Yes, because I'm a 1337 h4x0rz.

Regarding your other posts: If you wish to continue to play dumb and deny the fact that you are using these deceitful practices to develop your web site, then so be it. I, nor anyone else here, should care if you wish to act this way, as we have already reached the conclusion that you are using a fake profile modification on your web site. I see you are also attempting to bait us, by continuously playing dumb, along with other things you have been saying. You will notice that I am purposely ignoring this, as I do not wish to lower myself to such a level.

I have said it before, and I will say it again: If anyone wants to use these types of modifications on their web site, then they may do so. However, it does not mean that I will approve of it, and also means that I, along with several others here, will refuse to provide any support to you in the event you have any problems. This topic began with an individual asking how someone could have a web site grow by over three-thousand members in less than a day, and I replied by stating that they were using a fake profile modification, along with my stance on the matter. It was you who began this long, never-ending topic which has grown to where it is now.

Unless anything more meaningful can arise from this topic, or I find the need to respond is appropriate, then I will not return. Other than those conditions, I have concluded my stay in this topic and I am now moving on.

You won't lower yourself to that level? Really? That is why you and your little online buddy started this thread last night?  Of course you will deny it, however, funny how this thread started at the same time your ips showed up on our log.  I'm not playing dumb, and using a proxy to try to hack our site won't work either.  The system admin is on to you.

Bait you?  Are you kidding?  You attack me, my employees, and my users integrity and you want to say I'm doing the baiting?  Come on man, grow up.  You and your buddy started this thread to point me out.  It drives you crazy that my site is doing well.  Imagine if you spent half as much time on your sites that you did in this thread and trying to hack a site, your sites might actually do something.

This started out when I tried to start a blog about DOP.  I was trying to discuss how growth in TRAFFIC and PAGEVIEWS started.  It would of provided a lot of help to those who may needed info on SEO, advertising, and other resources.  I was only simply trying to help and no where did I even bring up members in the blog.  You started sending emails, to me and posting negative things about me and the site in the blog.  I only removed it due to the insults and accusations you started on it.  I do believe I have a lot to offer the users of the Boonex platform.  I've been doing business on the internet since 1991.  I own over 20 sites.  Most of my sites bring in a modest income.

It is people like you that kill the industry.  Someone stated earlier that the internet has a way of ridding the garbage out.  I agree.  I've seen a lot of people and sites come and go since 1991.

No, you haven't provided anything.  What you have done was made an assumption.  Unless you have hacked into our server or work for our company, you honestly have no idea to where our profiles come from, and if you did work for us you would be violating thousands of users and the privacy statement there that protects them. Consider yourself fired if you do work for us.Cool I really don't care what you believe honestly.  I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything.  I'm not the one spending hours on a site trying to play net detective.  I believe that it is you trying to convince people of something.  I haven't stated one way or the other.  I keep repeating myself though and it really does get tiring.  Our traffic and pageviews have increase greatly in the first month.

On a side note, I love how in one of your threads that you take credit for selling words for income, excuse me Mr. Al Gore, but that was done back in the early 1990's.

Read my post again.  What I am referring to as illegal, is the profile grabber listed in the market, which rips actual content from Myspace and uses that information to create a Dolphin profile.  WE have proved that you use a fake profile generator, so who are you trying to convince that the profiles are real?.... Us..... or yourself.

I do believe profile generators are illegal.  Where do you think all those pictures come from?  The purveyors of these profile generators are counting on the pictures they use, never being discovered by the person.... but it has happened.  There was a story on either Dateline or 60 Minutes about some guy discovering a profile on a website that used his picture.

Suggest whatever you want.... but I'll have to pass on the dinner invite.

Come on man, stop with the high school stuff already.  I've already said you have a problem with me email, call, or visit.  You are the one bringing this to the public, not I.

I think by now everyone is seeing a developing pattern here, you obviously can't tell the truth.  One minute you are lying saying I'm using profile grabbing software, then back peddle, next you created the concept of Google's AdSense, now you are saying I'm sending PM asking where you live.  That is three lies in one night.

I'm not making any threats,  I'm stating a fact.  Keep pinging my server and trying to hack my site, your ISP will be notified.  Believe me, I know who you are, your name, your address, and many other key stats about you all done through the use of public records via the internet, (the place that in a minute you will claim to have invented I'm sure).  I have a really good server admin.  When the other IPs are removed to protect their privacy, I will post your info since you asked me to post it in this public record.

I've watched you for the past months terrorize users, insulted many, always returning to high school antics of bullying and name calling.  I've seen you say many times, "be careful who you threaten, ect."  You my friend have picked on the wrong person.  You are the one asking me to post info.  If you continue to harass me, I will start posting a little at a time on here. Clear?

You are a bold face liar.  The email stated, "you look familiar, you live off of Clay Road, don't you"

Stop your freaking lying dude.  You were trying to hack my site and ping it.  You want me to post your IP and server log?  I really suggest you leave this thread and take your own advice.  You don't need an iggy button, just stop coming back looking for stuff in this thread.  No ignore button needed.

RE:

I also suggest you stop trying to hack the site and ping it off line.  That is illegal.

Yawwwwwwwwwwwnwnnnnnnnnn....................................

You have a vivid imagination.  As long as we're making requests, I'd appreciate it, if you ceased sending me PMs.  Someone sending me a PM asking where I live creeps me out.

What's all this? This turned into a flaming place? I've slept at 03:00 local time and 6 hours later this whole thing is falling apart!

5 Apr 2010

It was a PM, and I live in that area and as stated, you look really familiar, in fact I think you work at......... see now that would be creepy.  Excuse me for asking you a simple question, I simple think I know you.  Not creepy at all.  Maybe if you left the basement every once in a while, a normal conversation wouldn't seem so weird or creepy to you?  Just a thought.

LOL.  So if the server logs, shows the truth, you already have an excuse for it?  You claiming my server admin forges logs?  Man you are really out there man.

By all means, post a server log.  If it shows repetitious pings from my IP, it will mean that you posted forged server logs in a public place.  You really should be careful who you threaten.

Funny how most threads with houstonliverly in it turn out this way.  Developing pattern?  I think so.

What's all this? This turned into a flaming place? I've slept at 03:00 local time and 6 hours later this whole thing is falling apart!

5 Apr 2010

That is your first problem, believing anything Houstonlivery says.

Dave....

1)it's called a "Post reply" button, guess what, it is kind of better than quoting everything.(this applies to everybody)

2)who said we beleive "everything" he says?, all this started as a protest to people who use the two debatable mods (Fake profiles and Auto online)

There's absolutely NO personal attack/empathy on this, i used both mods 2 years ago and understood there's no real use of them, so i am the last person that would ever say heavy accusations ...i was a sinner and saw the light :P

3)the day we see our user number as statistics and not as phalic symbol and start acting like grown ups , we'll all be better people

and please don't get me started on how pinging one's server is NOT a proof of hacking, neither registering on one's website.

5 Apr 2010

Please read above where I stated the logs will be posted when the other 4999 ips are removed to protect them.  They have not asked to have their info posted.  By time I get back to Houston later now today, they will be ready for me to post.  Would you like me to hand deliver them or post them, your choice.

Arrgghhh...the most irritating thing is that is i post a question now in the forum , it's gonna be burried by this thread.

C'mon guy

5 Apr 2010

Cool Accusations?  What are you talking about?  They aren't accusations. The only thing you are going to do with this thread is lay down in bed and cry over it tonight.  Frankly you and I both know that is all you can do.  Just like I can't do anything with the libel you committed against me.  Now the hacking attempt, that is a different story and the way it sounds by you, you are going to try to take me to net court.

Keep these accusations coming.  I'm really looking forward to dealing with them.

5 Apr 2010

Ya houstonliverly give it a rest

This guy really creeps me out.

Guys, you should all stop replying. This topic is getting in the way of other peoples posts. Boonex should lock this post.

Lock it? Why? LOL!

You got the right wing Christians against the Gays VS the Spammers and the Liars. Did I miss anyone. These are all great representations of the 4 food groups that make up the Internet. I always wondered what would happen if you put them all in the same room.

I think we should keep it at the very tippy top of the forum for the next 2 weeks, then break down all the data mathematically and see what kind of reports we can generate on all of it.

Wow - this is one of the most idiotic threads I have seen here - on a forum known for idiotic threads.  @DatesofPlenty - I still haven't seen you categorically deny that you are using fake profiles - are you, or aren't you?  I thought this statement you made was perplexing: "However, the site numbers are 3312.  3000 or 312 in one month is great!".  So what was it - 3000 or 312?    If you really got 3000 users in one day would you care to share how you did it?  I'm certain you will want to repeat that so can we expect this phenomenal growth to continue?   That is better growth then I have heard about any of the sites here.

lol.....let's get some popcorn! Laughing

Give me something to believe in...
5 Apr 2010

Sigh...

I propose this topic be locked, as it has grown out of hand and has left the original purpose far behind in the dust. Now, it's a bunch of a bickering posts by people, which will not reach a resolution.

This is why I "don't" post to the forums anymore. Very seldom do you get help, most of the time they just pick you apart and then slander.

It seems to always be the same in the end.

Yes @datesofplenty, if your site does well they will nit pick at every thing.

Watch what follows. More will chime in as the day progresses!

Not sure how more could chime in here Newton, I think all of Unity (non admin types) is pretty much in here already.  I move also that this topic get lost, but also move that it get stickied.  In the end, a couple of questions were asked and DOP chose to chime in with an accusation that it was orchestrated.  I severely doubt that is the case as many threads here get an immediate response when we can provide one and this place constantly has people on it.  LCD & Magna don't even normally talk from what I've seen in the forums and if there was a private dispute regarding Magna & POD then that is there choice.

As far as this site helping your search rankings, not sure that is going to happen DOP, due to the fact that this site usually ends up pretty dang near the top if not at the top of google searches when people put your name in.  So if I drop:

Free Online Dating in here, that means this site in a couple of days (after the bots search it) will rank up there.  So will your DOP site name, along with Plenty of Fish & Match since you gave there url's in here.  But most importantly it will show that some have a suspicion that your site is filled with fakes and that is not a good thing to have.  In addition, it's going to show the owner of DOP partaking in a bickering contest as it questions the validity of the profiles on your site.  Again, not a good thing to have.  Some will believe your profiles are real (even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile) and some will believe they are fake and thus not join your site.  You will even get a few real people to sign up and see if your site is real or fake, just because they feel like it.

Now, as far as your name goes.  You do realize there is an established site by the name of Plenty Of Dates correct?  Your looking at some serious issues with your site name as your playing off the success of Plenty of Fish (Which Plenty of Dates is also doing) and you've posted your intent to use their business model as your own.  Changing the order of the words and so on is not really a smart move as many may see it as a marketing ploy that has been not well thought out.

Next up, did you notice this on your site?  You probably want to fix it as I'm pretty sure it's a typo:

05.04.2010

I wanted to make this bit of news top priority.  We have launched a new contest.  For the user that is the 4000th person to join, he/she will receive 0.00.  That isn't all, whoever that users is, will be asked who referred them, that person too will receive 0.00!!  So get busy, invite all you know to check out this site.  Post it on your websites, emails, facebook, myspace, or anywhere.  This is free money!

Thank you for making Dates of Plenty have one of its best months ever.  As we continue to grow, we hope to receive feedback from the users to help us make this site better.

Be sure to check out the video chat option.  Also did you know you can go to your profile and leave video comments on  your profile as well as those you are interested in?

If we can do anything to make the site better, please let us know!

Can you please make me the 4,000th member.  I've never once gotten a check for $0.00 before and would love to take it to the bank.  Just the look on their faces would be awesome.

Watch out for the bots smacking you on rankings for that name choice, not really something an SEO Pro wants to get hit with.

I'm out for now.
