Dolphin 7.0.7 Beta 2 - Developers Attention Required

Andrew Boon posted 27th of July 2011 in Dolphin.pro News. 9 comments.

Just a few days after the first Beta we have another, hopefully last Beta update of upcoming 7.0.7 release. We know that most of the Internet-connected world is enjoying warm summer days, perhaps on a beach, and that makes us so envious (Sydney's bloody freezing) that we just have to keep you busy.

Drill

First and foremost - do not use it for production sites - it's not a final version. If, however, you're a brave and generous member of our "extended" QC team, please download and test it. Beta 2 basically addresses a few reported issues and couple of bugs we found since Beta 1. So, our inner optimist already marks Monday as a release date, so we need you help to indulge him. Please, use forum for bug reports and comments section for... well, comments.

Developers Developers Developers

Dear developers, this is the time when we welcome you to download Dolphin and check if your products work with it and if any updates may be required. And, take a very good look at how you can make your Modules work with Dolphin Mobile Apps. This may be a great way to stand out and make your products a lot more desirable.

make sure you convince the developers to provide upgrade scripts for their modules as well and if there would be a nice way in D7 admin to do see more the installation/upgradation in modules section that would be sweet :)

My site is a sports site, where multiple photos are uploaded for the monthly events. The problem is with sorting the gallery order AGAIN, after the original upload, of 30-100 photos in the photos 'organize' page. Honestly, it is a pain, double work, and very time consuming to get the order right AGAIN, because the way it currently is, the photos are dumped in any order in the database table, which is mixed up again each time another photo is uploaded. Couldn't it be made to use the sequence they see more are uploaded - latest, and then if people need to sort, they can.

It is a real hassle for others uploading, and they put the sorting onto me, as this should not be happening. They can't work out how to do it. So it is even more time consuming for me, when all we want is a simple upload order to stay the way they are uploaded. The events start at 1 and end at 12 for example. The photos need to be ordered in event and time order. It is a hassle having the last mixed with the 4, then the 10th and 1st, as members scroll through them.

Can this please be fixed. I am not a coder, but I am sure it is only a quick fix to stop the order being changed in the database table, each time a photo is uploaded to it's gallery.

I have also noticed that IE9 didn't allow the photos to be moved in the organize page. I could not click and move them like with FF or Chrome.

Hi Leonid, thanks so much for your response, I would have no chance of finding that code, let alone edit it :-) I will try it out soon.

Much appreciated as it was a frustrating job to reorganize. I feel quite a few people will like this change.

Well done, Pip

I set up a test site for 7.0.7 in a subdirectory of my test site

These are my observations,

As with all my sites I blocked htaccess to CN/HK below are my join atempts in one week

6 122.3.171.14
100 66.197.237.88
100 180.178.50.50
289 117.79.233.153
200 114.112.46.4
210 117.79.233.183
100 117.79.233.129
200 117.79.233.160
215 117.79.233.150
196 117.79.233.131
121 117.79.233.136
200 117.79.233.164
100 117.79.233.130
100 117.79.233.143
100 118.186.39.84

Can see more someone develop an effective module or simple tool in 7.0.7 to stop them, I only wish new members could find my site so easy

I also ran the new server audit on shared hosting (2) whith the followng highlights

register_globals "On"
MySQL:
query_cache_size = 0 - FAIL (must be > 16777216)
thread_cache_size = 0 - FAIL (must be > 0)

PHP:
php accelerator = NO - WARNING (Dolphin can be much faster if you install some php accelator))

Yes, I konow everyone will say: cotact the hosts (I did) or get VPS or dedicated, but new sites have to start somewhere.

It is good to see that Boonex strive to make improvements as the saying goes "if it was easy, everybody would be doing it"
