Will they really release D7 soon?

I see no way that D7 can be released before xmas with all the fixes that need to be done. I have been keeping trac of all the tickets after each release and it seems that we are only getting 4 or 5 actual fixes each time. Here is a list I have been keeping.

beta 7

73 tickets-beta 1

108 fixes-beta 3

98 fixes-beta 4

95 fixes-beta 5

80 fixes-beta 6

77 fixes-beta 7

updated fixes:

81 fixes-beta 7

83 fixes-beta 7

84 fixes-beta 7

87 files-beta-7

95 files-beta-7

110 fixes-beta 7

Please Boonex make sure you spend extra time in making this software security #1 priority. Even if we have to wait longer now.

How can we get this released this year if each time you actually only fix 3 -5 problems?

It seems like we are taking baby steps here. Am I missing something here? Will beta 8 have 72 fixes need after release? I personally do not see this software ready for us to open our sites any time this year at this rate.

I will be working on live with D7 live or beta by the end of the month regardless of the situation. I said I would be able to get a client a website with certain functionality by mid October based on what Boonex had said. Obviously when I talked to the client I added a good one month of bespoke work, plus 3 months for boonex to finish the beta, on my deadline to avoid any embarrassing delays. That will teach me.
So as it stands, I will let the website go live and then make the approapriate beta see more amendments to update the client’s website with any updates/amendments via beta. It way take some time but it is either that or I have to return the funds back to the client via escrow. My own, incredibly stupid, fault.

Making business decisions "based on what Boonex has said" is an EXTREMELY risky undertaking, as many of us here can attest. I really, really, really wish they would give us some kind of upgrade script between the betas. Since they probably won't, maybe people in this community can work up some kind of "procedure" for the upgrades. Even if it only partially worked, it would be better than nothing.

i agree, its really tiresome to have to re-install every few weeks just to test things

It seems your methodology doesn't take into account that they are also adding new tickets with each release - I am pretty sure they are fixing more than 5 bugs each time. The concern is valid, however, the schedule on this is not looking good.

I am taking into account they are adding things, that is why I am worried. They are adding things to list that either did not get fixed last release, or fixing some things has broke others and needed to re-fix. What I am worried about is that each beta release comes back with almost same amount of tickets that need fixed as last release. So where is the forward progress?

I am guessing that they will probably release a RC within the next month or so. I read that even after RC1, there would be other "Updates, Patches, Service Packs" to follow. More than likely, they would resolve all the Critical and Major tickets before the release and then add the minor and requests to the patches mentioned above. This would allow them to have at least have a RC version out there.

Of course this is my assumption, which we all know what that means.

i said this before and will say it again. D7 will not be ready until sometime 2010. I would say 2nd quarter. But i am sure something will be out by xmas but it wont be ready. Keep in mind folks, D6 isnt 100%. Logic states have a finished product, then improve it. D7 is the answer to the unfinished D6 so based on this logic we are improving on a unfinished product which should mean a finished D6? how ya like that math. yes i know as old prez Bush once said fuzzy math thus D7 has many bugs yet to be see more worked out and trust D8 will be out b4 D7 is 100% as well ;O) now can someone prove me wrong lol and i I like you will install and run a live D7 when its about 75% aka official
A quick and short answer is "Nope"
ydrargyros
Well, for me D7 means both business and case study for greater things. As long as they don't release the final edition i pretty much hang up in the air on developing new plugins and mods as well as putting my own site on air again. What can we do, besides reasonably whinning bout this? work on the betas...that's the only way we'll be almost sure that when the final version get's released i'll be ready and pretty much running steadily.
Keep in mind that these comforting words actually come from someone see more that has already put time effort and a nice pile of money on this whole project...
And Microsoft thought THEY took a beating releasing betas.

Ydrargyros i agree 100% let us all get to helping

I think it's probably that all of the bugs don't get discovered each beta. Between Beta 4 and Beta 5 there were major changes to the database structure, so that in itself probably generated a new wave of bugs. There are also occasions where fixing one thing will break something else, but that's probably not very common.

There were about 6 minor database changes between Beta 5 and Beta 6, so I think with beta 7 you will see a significant drop in the number of bugs, or at least a significant see more drop in the severity of them. I really think you'll see RC1 by mid to late October. After that, it really doesn't make any sense to get in a hurry just knock out something you can call a final release, since Boonex has stated that they'll be upgrade patches starting at RC1.

Dolphin 7 will be released soon. They just want to make it a bug free release. Lets wait for few more days and get a bug free one.

What a waste of time.. I really wish I could stay all day counting "tickets" on some website..
It will be released when it will be finished..
I personally just wish to reach RC to be provided with upgrade patches..
LightWolf
You know mastermindsro if you have nothing good to say then best not to say anything. I don't stay on here all day by the way. But since I was laid off i do have some extra time on hands. I'm sorry we can not all be as important and busy as you. So go play with your friends and leave my blog alone.
mastermindsro
I never had that attitude, but your way of speeding things is not so good..

I think that there is an expectation that the release should be bug free. There were many who were complaining about the bugs shipped with D6 (myself included), and Boonex took a lot of flak as a result of this. I think that Boonex are now ensuring that the same problems do not happen again with D7

I was originally holding off on further development of my own site waiting for D7, but for the past month have continued, realising that D7 is still going to be some time away.
eclectech99
The whole process is completely confusing to me. They want the "official" release to be 100% bug-free. That will be almost impossible anyway, but when you take into account the fact that a lot of the bugs aren't being fixed from one version to the next, it seems ridiculous.

I'm not sure this system of reporting bugs and issues in the forums is the right way to go either. I think it may just be a way of tucking issues into a hidden closet...so that light isn't shed on them. There are see more a lot of "Real" issues in the forum that are not being given the attention they deserve.

It just seems like deadlines were not met and now there is a rush to get the release out. You've got one group of people who want it released like yesterday...Another group of people who want all of the bugs fixed no matter what time it gets released....And yet another group of people (including me) who are just completely confused as to how this Road-map really works at all.
DeeEmm
The road-map only outlines what's going to happen - It's the schedule / time-line that says when it's supposed to happen. I don't believe that there is any estimation for the first RC, but as the OP states, there's still quite a few bugs in the bug tracker, so it's not likely to be soon.

personally, i do not have a problem with how long its taking boonex to release D7. but what i think was done that has mislead and caused great frustration is that there was this big TODO about the release of D7 with promised dates. this has caused many to delay their D6 development, which should have never happened. at most there could have been an announcement of a beta7, but never should there have been any discussion about a release of D7.

i commend andrew for not releasing a known bug-laden see more application, however at the same time, there are mention that there are bugs reported on the forum, the bugs dont make it to trac, there are those of us who have reported (i tried, didnt work out for me) to trac, there are others who are reporting to the forum.

there is a problem with this methodology, in that there is a percentage that is a bug, there is a percentage that is end-user error, and there is a percentage that is server configuration, this has come about because boonex opened up their beta realm to the masses.

this is problematic because the only bugs some would know how to track would have wings and we call 'em roaches in texas, and you take 'em out with a can of hair spray and a lighter.

i think the release should take as long as it takes, but i also think that the bugs that are being reported, regardless of how trivial the programmers may consider them to be, they should be fixed or at least commented on in trac, so that we know we are not carrying 30 bugs from D7B1 across D7B3, picking up 40 more bugs on B3, coupled with the carry over from B1, maybe they get credit like cell phones, and your minutes, rollover bugs, ack yeah thats right, thats what the roach will do when you tag is dirty filthy insect tail with that can of hair spray and lighter.

at any rate, wanted to rant and this seemed like as good a place as any.

Regards,
DosDawg
