Trac, Flash Apps Rego, 7.0.2

Andrew Boon posted 14th of June 2010 in . 17 comments.

Just a quick update on a few pieces:

Login to Trac is now off, because of the recent changes we had to make to our web-server. This is temporary and we're working on a solution.

Registration of Flash Apps licenses didn't work for some time because of the DNS changes and our local firewall. It will take some time before necessary changes propagate. So, in a short while (not more than 48 hours) they should work fine.

We are preparing Dolphin 7.0.2 - packing, checking, etc. If everything goes well, it should be available in a few hours.

:) 7.0.2 is needed.
7.0 to 7.0.2 upgrade script?
how much work [man hours] is it going to take to upgrade from d7 to d7.2, and how about all modes that are out there for d7 [we have over 33 installed], with thousands of dollars spent.

This is not a high school project and you guys got to figure out how to manage these upgrade so they will be backward compatible . We are already having second thoughts about even getting involved with boonex platform. We have over half million per quarter advertising budget, and cant even spend it since we have see more not been able to get your platform work the way it should.

in short you are NOT managing or Running this software development in a professional manner, and creating a great deal of financial liability for yourselves.

you have been warned. What is this deal about servers going down or licenses not working. Is it aprils fools day already, or we just dont know what we are doing?

Any thoughts, or bright ideas about this situation?

today, we bought four d7, modes, during install , got a message that it is not compatible with d7. WHY should it be this way. Also what is the deal with the "SOUND", in proper English, it is called "MUSIC". Atleast pay attention to the proper language. We had to spend a lot of time editing the Lang files to take care of this and change [sound] to [music]. And any time a mode was installed, same thing happened, all the [music] setting [about us], [privacy],..etc, reverted back to boonex default values. Hopefully, we have figured out how to take care of that. Too bad these four modes we got today were not compatible, atleast we would have got an answer about our solution.

So what is next, your Majesty?

If have to be sarcastic, educate yourself first. Dolphin 7 is backwards-compatible as much as any open-source web-software may be. We provide version-to-version upgrade script and you can use merging software to see the diff.

There is no way, with any software to provide automatic upgrades to modified installation with 100% success rate. It is responsibility of 3rd party modules developers to either upgrade their mods or make them independent of updates. Check out Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, whatever see more and you will see how all 3rd party extensions display version compatibility.

As for the language:

sound 1 |sound|
noun
vibrations that travel through the air or another medium and can be heard when they reach a person's or animal's ear

Can see no problem using this word. Especially when you consider that in some cases it may not be music actually, but voice recordings or audiobooks, etc.

I also can't see how we are creating financial liability for ourselves with our software? it has always been exactly the opposite, fortunately.
Andrew Boon
With your 33 mods - talk to their providers and ask for version upgrades, if needed. That's how it ALWAYS works with any web software. It is also recommended to stick to reputable providers that update their mods regularly.

market standards should be enforced asap.
no mods should be sold if it doesnt meet boonex compatibility[installation/upgradation/templating] standards.
waiting for this to happen since forever :(
Andrew Boon
This would kill the Market. Reputation, ratings, scores have to be improved, but if we start enforcing standards and conduct obligatory verification we would slow down everything dramatically. Just stick to reputable providers and research before buying.

Explain to me again why flash apps have to be registered separately... apparently over, and over, and over..... and over..

Why isn't entering a valid license code ONE time, for everything, sufficient? I don't get it. Why should the flash apps on my site have to get UNregistered just because the Boonex server is unavailable? I registered them once. Why isn't that good enough?
Andrew Boon
It was united into a single registration, but we didn't do this for re-registration (omission, apparently). Now we changed it to make sure licenses don't get forgotten if the site is down. It's an annoying rudiment of Ray Widgets, which were a separate product.

You also need to update this for dolphin 6.1.6 do you have an updated swf file for 6.1.6 users as well ?

This is getting ridiculous. I have spent hundreds of dollars on modules, only to find out that Boonex has a registration server that can render those hundreds of dollars null with no recourse action other than to wait for you all to bring back up your servers in a couple of days!?!? This is a total outrage and for those of us using this code to develop a professional site...this can and will make us lose clients...I had to spend all weekend trying to get my modules to work with the various "options" see more that kind members of your community provided, then I bombarded 2 developers with back and forth questions all weekend...that's a lot of wasted hours for everyone involved...This registration server is a load of bull, we should only have to register ONCE! I paid for your modules and server, you can't just strip me of that because you had a security compromise.

Oh come on people, give them a break. Thanks to some people that have mental issues, they have had to spend a lot of time getting things fixed. I to have had my issues with this software, but they have been proving they are trying to do better, so give them a break. Let's see you run a website that people want to destroy, and spend all your time trying to fix it, then to have people always jumping down their throat for the problems others have caused. I think they are doing a great job compared to see more what we have seen in the past. So my point is "If you don't like the heat, get out of the kitchen!", Go some wheres else and spend your time and money if you are unhappy. I think you all are doing a good job Boonex , keep up the great work. Yeah now comes the - votes.. Oh well, kids will be kids..lol People were only disrupted by these issues for a few days, get over it!

48 hours later and still not registering. Is everybody else having this problem or just me? Really need to get this working. Thanks.

If this is the result of DNS changes and a local firewall, why is it affecting only the Video Comments Player and Photo Shooter? Wouldn't everything going through that firewall be affected?

omg !
since your server shut down so did all my sites flash apps, i also have lost all my registered domain names in my licences account, so hurry up guys its hard enough getting the site's advertised without the apps crashing all the time, sort it out and please have a total mirror ready to run incase this happens again.
