The New Logo & The Next Big Thing

Andrew Boon posted 2nd of July 2008 in . 86 comments.

The New BoonEx Logo

The time has come to say goodbye to our old logo, it has served us well and will remain a part of the company history.

Now, let me introduce the new corporate identifier of BoonEx Pty Ltd.:

New BoonEx Logo

The new logo now carries this message - the meaning of our operation - our mission - Unite People. The words that we associate with this logo are: unity, diversity, infinity, process, collaboration, limitlessness. This is what we're up to.

The Next Big Thing

With BoonEx, if it seems like things are going quietly, then you can bet that something BIG is in works. And this time I mean it...

At this point, the whole thing is strictly classified. So let's just call it "NBT" for now.

I really don't mean to tease you (ok, maybe a little), but you surely need to know that we're hard at work...

I'm talking about new releases (I can't even tell you if they are versions, or entirely new products) - a few of them, and each being superior to, say, Dolphin and Ray altogether! In fact, we believe that they are going to be revolutionary in every way - a totally new approach, with the newest technologies, newest strategy, and most importantly - totally limitless opportunities.

Not too clear, huh? One thing is for sure - whoever becomes our customer now - will be happy with the NBT.

When? Depending on 88,743,874,993 factors... anytime from now and up to the end of the year. If, however, another 4,839 factors kick in - it may take a tad more.

Trust me, though - it's going to be one of the things that is darn well worth waiting for!

new things that are need in my eyes are.
IP# on registration and profiles
ray chat auto flood kicker, (i.e. type 5 lines in as many seconds and poof your kicked out the chat.)
ray chat word filter.
podcast
cell/mobile phone use to enter chat.
direct movie upload from mobile phone

moderators should not need to log off main site and login moderator site to access moderator controls, admin should be able to set permissions for each moderator to what they can moderate, i.e. profile pics, music see more uploads, profile content. forum posts,

bug/error in system, ray chat still does not show members in chat as being online under the main sites members online.

chat skins, we need to have some way to change chat skins to suit our own sites colour scheme, maybe include and option to use a css file to change the basic colours or have an option like the font colour picker, to change colour scheme'

all of the above i feel would make dolphin much more better for site owners.
Andrew Boon
Thank you Sammie. All noted. The NBT is quite different to just a next iteration of Dolphin, so some notes may not apply, though. For good reason.
zmoos
Yeah, what about the bugs and unfinished stuff with Dolphin? I hope The Next Big Thing doesn't mean Dolphin bcomes That Old Thing that nobody cares about anymore.
Andrew Boon
Bugs and unfinished stuff, once spotted, will be duly patched, just as promised before.
MichelSwiss
Alas I have to agree with zmos... I still never seen a completely finished and bug free Dolphin version :-(
You are enthousiastic and that is a nice quality... but good work could be boring sometimes... that is often the symptom of that you are doing something really great.
sammie
sadly i hate it when things are secret, it means we have no input and therefore anything new you bring out has had only a few minds mulling over the idea, where you have a vast amount of webmasters that can really give you some valuable input into what your aiming for.

i myself have been a webmaster for 6 years, and own 41 domians.
Andrew Boon
I hate secrecy too. And we'll make sure to start open discussions as soon as possible.

The problem is that, at this point, a few things are still uncertain... AND we need some competitive advantage (read - time).

In fact, we do use your input a lot, and for the first time we decided to address the core issues raised to date: upgrading, speed, conventions, extensions installation, templating, etc. It's 2008 now, and we need 2009+ solutions to be ahead.
Technoman
Well if this means going up to a new 6.2 DOLPHIN with out all the tracs @ BONEX
not even finnished then this will never be finnshed and this has to stop and we need to give you a sorta idea what the users like and want and then we can put it all together to deciding whats next

but I will always miss the 5.6 DOLPHIN

the new DOLPHIN was supposed to have a 2 TEMPLATE SYSTEM but of course it never did .... thats what BOONEX PROMISED to us in the past when 6.0 was out for download ...........

This see more is scary what your saying that something is coming ...comon lets get serious and lets get an idea before you put something out before anything I think you and the TEAM of BOONEX need to really focus on finnishing all the nugs in DOLPHIN ........

there was never a 5.7 or 5.8 or 5.9 you jumped from 5.6 to 6.0 ???

this is not ANDREY ways of doing this ... ANDREy i know loves to finnish something before he comes out with something new ...

Sorry I want ANDREY back cause he knows what we want and he would never leave us this long without telling us and i want him back so we can finnish off DOLPHIN to be bug free . or close enough and then we can head on to better stuff .................

ANDREY
(OWNER OF BOONEX)

where is he ?????????????????
Andrew Boon
Dolphin 6.1 development, support, fixing and improvement will go on. You can safely assume that 6.1 will be around for about a year from now. With due fixes and improvements.

We are not dropping Dolphin 6.

Just look at Extensions at Expertzzz and Unity and you'd immediately realize why Dolphin 6 should stay around no matter what. And while we're talking - Dolphin team is working on the next patch.

I totally understand your concern and do care about finishing 6.1, so there's nothing to worry see more about. It's not that much about Dolphin, really, it's a lot more than that.
Technoman
thanks for reasuring this
Your the man !

Hi Andrey,
Logo thing:
well to be honest, i like the old logo miuch more, it looked more serious then the new one...
And here at Unity, browsing it with FF3, the logo on left is far to big and its not "sharp". It seems like i need glasses cause its sized to big an not a clear one as this what you posted. Maybe you have to raise the resolution or the size or whatever, but i would say, correct it fast ;) Or bring the old one back ;)

The big thing:
Im starting now 3 projects with Dolphin see more 6.1.2, bought a lot of mods, i hope that there wont be a new release so soon cause then a lot of work and money will be wasted. If you are making new release, then pls look also at some main mods that they can be still used or build in this features.
I already subscribed to the newsletter at products page, oh no, im colored me interested ;) So lets see what happend, but if you are making new release for dolphin, make sure its easy to update.

Greets,
Jerry
Andrew Boon
Thank you Jerry.

As for logo... looks pretty sharp for me (it's a converted vector, so not a sizing issue). You sure you don't have your browser zoomed? The old one - I like it too, that's why we used it for so long, but, unfortunately, it just doesn't tell the story.

And..NBT - you'll be ok. I do believe that you'll be embracing the NBT. Dolphin 6 is not going to die.
Andrew Boon
Got it, got it! Poor JPG conversion. Fixed. THANK YOU!
jerry79
Your always welcome Andrey ;) i try to help where its possible.
And thanks for all the other informations.
Cant wait see what you are brewing in your kitchen ;)
umeshtmi1
Hey Andrey, this looks like a real good milestone. Are you trying to refer to Shark...??? Just wondering...
Technoman
unoboonex

are my eyes playing with me

the pic of ( unoboonex ) is not ANDREY

The ANDREy i know is blond hair and has blue eyes .... :)
Andrew Boon
:) just uploaded a new one.
Andrew Boon
Ok, it feels like some clarification is needed:

1. Dolphin 6.1 will live on. Dolphin 6.2 will also appear eventually. Patches, with fixes and upgrades will continue being released. There's no plans of dropping the line or lowering our efforts on it.

2. NBT is not a Dolphin 6 upgrade. It's a whole different thing, a few things actually. If everything goes the way we plan - webmasters, businessmen, designers, programmers, your mom and dad, me, etc. WILL want it (sorry for being so unclear, I see more really am sorry guys).
That's funny it seems perfectly clear to me that this is not Dolphin but a whole new fishy that will swim along side Dolphin and hopefully they won't try to eat each other.

LOGO
__
sorry doesnt suit DOLPHIN the new LOGO
( thumbs down for LOGO )

Put back OUR COMMUNITTY LOGO ... PLEASE
Andrew Boon
C'mon! Our community now has the logo, which actually IS a community logo. ;)

Forgive me for being so protective, but I really believe that the new logo has a lot more meaning in it and will do better job down the track.
nuccca
I think the new Logo along with the new overall design of BoonEx.com reflects the companys mission and growth!
Technoman
NBT

So let's just call it "NBT" for now ( UNOBOONEX )

NBT= NEW BOONEX TEAM ??
:)
Andrew Boon
LOL

no, thanks. That is the last thing I would consider changing.
Technoman
I think SHARK is what is coming soon

oh my fingers are crossed cause ive been asking for it ages now ..........
Andrew Boon
not only that, and not what it was initially supposed to be.
Technoman
if thats you ANDREY

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

now you have grey hair ...lol

i saw you in a chat 1 on 1 with your wife and no way do you have grey hair ... lol

the pic you used for UNOBOONEX ( the tanned man ) wasnt a nice pic :(

now your looking better but..........

is all the stress giving you grey hair now ...lol
Andrew Boon
stress... playing games with your memory, huh? ;)

Boonex is not a stress - it's a joy. Obligation to sleep at nights - THAT's the stress!
nuccca
haha, easy technoman, seems your critizing Andrey with every post.

He's the man, he got BoonEx where it is today, just let him do his job.
gameutopia
I was thinking your unoboonex current profile picture would make a nice logo:
http://www.boonex.com/unity/images/gallery_real/3/0/

No just kidding...I like the old logo, but the new one looks good too.
gameutopia
Thanks for all your kind thumbs down. Guess someone don't like to have fun and joke a little.
gameutopia
Thanks for the thumbs down jerk offs!! It actually counts as points the way the system is set up so really it don't matter to me.
gameutopia
Man I'm going to put another in here for all of you that don't like me for helping you out for free so you can give me some more points.
Technoman
ANDREY

I would like to be 1 of the 1st ones to have a go and try out Shark
( please )

ive sent you so many emails in the 2007

If i dont get it i will talk to my Koala bear friends in Australia and they will have a boxing round with yah ..... hahaha
Andrew Boon
Koalas don't do boxing! Gotcha bluffin!

If you come over to Oz, you'd realize that koalas only drop form the trees and bite your years. Boxing is a feature of kangaroos, no big deal. Wombats is the most serious thread - so NEVER EVER go to wombat tunnels! (or you'd find yourself smashed against a wall like a pumpkin).
Andrew Boon
..and yeah, as soon as we have something to share, you'd definitely be one of the very first to know.
Ivo
Not bad logo. I like the symbol. Message is clear and great! However, I think letters are too big (all capital). so they are swalowing and diminishing logo message (Unity, etc).

You shuold stick with original letters: BoonEx, or, even all small letters: boonex. And black color should be changed with the color of Unity symbol, I think (much nicer and more pleasant for eyes).

At the end, please forgive me because I am new member, but anyone can answer what exactly "BoonEx" means?
(Well, see more I know BooneyM were one of most popular groups...).

I hope, I wish and I KNOW you BoonEx guys will surprise us with something much, much bigger and better than is Dolphin, whom we still love so much...

Just do not throw at us again tons of upgrades, patches etc. Let it be something REALLY new and - gooooood....

Good luck and all the best!

Way to go, BoonEx!
Andrew Boon
Thanks Ivo, you got what I mean :)

As for BoonEx - from the very beginning it was constructed of two parts BOON (improvement) and EX (experts).
zmoos
Thanks for the clarification... it just seems like things were happeneing really fast with Dolphin over the past several months, and then for the last month or so we've heard and seen VERY little from you guys. So hopefully you guys will follow through with what you just said, and will continue to support, update, patch, enhance, and bug-fix Dolphin.... and it won't be placed on the back burner... at LEAST not until it's totally bug free.

I may be alone on this. But some kind of product or application see more that EVERYbody wants, loses its appeal and value sometimes. I don't want to offer a website and services that everybody else in the world is offering as well. If Boonex makes it TOO easy for everybody to unite and become one huge community we won't really have much to offer anymore. Of course we DON'T know what you are talking about.... but most of us seem to suspect it's Shark or some kind of shared/unifed community.
Andrew Boon
I see your point. The catch is that Dolphin or any other product, per se, should not be your offering. ideally it should be a tool to deliver your idea/initiative and unite people over it. And perfect tool is something that helps you all the way and doesn't limit you in any manner, right?

Like, say, you have an idea for "Neighborhood community of Santa Monica" - not dating, not social networking, not exactly a forum, or chat. Our-of-the box Dolphin or any other package just doesn't make see more it - so you get Dolphin, buy mods, hire programmer, change, try, change, try, etc. Then comes a version update and you're in trouble :). THAT is the main problem we're trying to address.
Ryne

Sammie, most of what you have requested here is pretty simple to do... besides the closed source ray stuff I could probally code it for you. I am not asking for money just send me a message and ill see what I can see more do.
sammie
no thank you, i dont trust you, you're dishonest
Technoman
keep up the good heart it will pay off in the end
Andrew Boon
Thanks Ryne. All noted.

can we please also see who gives bad and good karma on here ?

Im really curious to see whos giving me bad/good karma and im sure alot of other users are curious also to know :-)
Andrew Boon
We'll consider :) I little bit of extra passion to commenting won't hurt.
Herbert
Thank you for the new logo information.

I am running smart pro (dolphin 6.0 with orca 1 and ray 3.1 because of the bugs in newer versions so far). Your info regarding the next big think is a little big confusing and I have some questions now:

Are ecards available for language switching now - as promised in an email some weeks ago?
Will the next big thing be available for smart pro customers as an upgrade?
When will the next big thing be available?
Is dolphin 6.1, orca 2 and ray 3.5 see more stable now to run as a professional community solution. I did not update so far because of some fairs regarding bugs, loosing members and business.

Sorry for my bad english, regards, Herbert
Andrew Boon
NBT - definitely available for SP customers at no charge. No word about the date yet.

Current Dolphin/Ray/Orca are considered stable and are being periodically patched.

As for eCards - VictorT will answer that one shortly.
Juker
Hi Andre,

It's not the Logo that counts it's the Product and I just hope you have started to settle down and get it right because if you don't produce something noteworthy you're going to lose all credibility in the marketplace.

Like Herbert I purchased the SmartPro package and after investing thousands in this venture my honest opinion is that you should stabilize the quality of the product you have on the table before you start boasting about something new. After all of the anxiety and dissapointment see more we have suffered how can you possibly expect anyone to get excited about some new scheme unless you can offer total assurance to your paying custtomers that we are going to get the quality product we paid for?

Like Herbert I waited for weeks until last Monday when I paid to have Dolphin 6.0 upgraded to 6.1.2 and not 15 minutes into evaluating the software I started to find major problems.

So now my business venture is shut down again and I'm losing money everyday. The love and excitement I once felt for you and your company has turned to dissapointment and I can only pray that you will start to use proper judgement and get this derailed train back on the tracks.

Juker
Andrew Boon
Hi Juker,

pretty much exactly what we're trying to fix. Dolphin is being used for ll sorts of setups, it has gazillion of features and very often this turns into a neverending features-bugs hunt cycle. Although Dolphin is #1 out-of-the-box community software solution now - there's still a huge number of problems. We are and we will be chasing them. But you want MAJOR improvement that would get you past any software concerns and would just let you move on to the business side, right? For that, see more we need to do some core changes, fast.

SP customers are the ones to benefit most.

I hear your frustration, but I wouldn't recommend anybody else, and I can assure you that we will do better.

and I beleive ANDREY when he says DOLPHIN 6 aint going anywhere for 1 year and more ....
Juker
Thank you brother!

I am dissapointed but I do have HOPE because of good people like you.

An honest comparison of the Dolphin, Orca, and Ray features blows MySpace and YouTube out of the water. The potential is there and it's just a matter time for Andre and his crew to bring it all together.

Thank you again for your kind words!

Juker

Dolphin is on the right track. I think the new solution is in order. My dolphin 6.1.2 site is full of promise. At 12 days we had over 500 members with just me advertising it on 1 web 2.0 site. Everyone was exited with the layout and the community built on your CMS. I purchased a dolphin license a expertzzz contributor account to show support for the community. I hope the later versions get the kinks out for sure :) BTW my site needs some love so all you programmers willing to work on a 50USD, send see more me a message! lol
Andrew Boon
Thank you. I am sure we'll "get the kinks out". Just watch it ;)
mattscomprepair1
What also we need to do is put video email inside this as well. Everything else is video why not video email? What do you think. I think that is a great idea, And Cut away all the fat that we don't ever use on this site. make them addon packs if you need them.
Andrew Boon
Video emails and video comments are both being developed.
miregrobar
I like sibols on two "O"
But i dont like font.

okay now that I have seen the LOGO a few extra times coming on here i have to now say it took me awile to get used to it

but thats what your trying to say a meaning of its own in the 2 ( O O )

Yes it looks like a happy family holding hands the NEW LOGO

Good 1 ANDREY and keep up the great work for DOLPHIN :- }
Andrew Boon
No comment (insert an icon of a happy smiley face here).
Juker
Andre,

Your enthusiasm is infectuous!

I'm a 61 y.o. businessman and I am on the board of directors of seven international corporations. I know a good thing when I see it and from a bvusiness standpoint I think that Boonex is destined to become one of the great success stories of the computer age.

Thank you for your encouraging comment above and for tolerating a grumpy old fart like me. I don't want to come on here and discourage any of the young people who read my dribble to think that we see more should bail out of Boonex. In spite of the temporary programming problems we are all priviledged to be a part of something great.

I really do like the new logo! Once you realize that it's a bunch of little people holding hands it sorta grabs ya!

Juker
Andrew Boon
Thanks you Juker!

What bugs me is why do people vote you down... maybe, just maybe it has something to do with your "7 corporations" thing, which I, for one, consider as a great achievement of yours. I am honored to read compliments from a really experienced entrepreneur.
DavidP
The logo looks great!

It would look perfect at the top of a nice thick user manual.

D
Andrew Boon
...which anybody can help us to build.

Totally agreed, BTW.
rkhalid
It seems they are not sure about the output of this new stuff ,
Andrew Boon
Being in this thing for 9 years I've learned to be "not sure" about output of just about anything. "Only paranoids survive". Yes, we're not sure, but we do believe and we are very determined.
araaaa
Oh yeah.. Great..

As it is paid licences for Ray modules I've not been able to use.. A problem I wrote to Boonex in May 20 is still not addressed.. Now we are supposed to look out for the NBT., I expect the 'next Big Thing' would be boonex support team vanishing in total. And all of us shutting our sites to make 'Groups' in Boonex Unity to run our communities.. ! !

Please make good the existing promises first.. And recheck the way "The Licensing system" works.. And please do see more not release versions that are so buggy., that we need a bunch of Expertzzz flyswatters to clear them out..
Andrew Boon
What makes you think that NBT doesn't actually address the issues you noted? It really, actually, absolutely does.
SuperNOOB
L.O.L

I knew this day was coming from the first day I had a look around the forums at all the problems we're having and saw the codename "Shark".

They are going to release a PAID CMS and end this free ride crap. And ya know what. I'm fine with that. I won't buy it (because I've already invested too much time and money into getting Dolphin to work properly) but I sure do hope they don't think for a second they can continue to NOT support the paid version buyers like they are screwing see more over the smartpro buyers right now. That would suck to watch...
Andrew Boon
NBT is going to be free. And no, we're not screwing SP customers in any way. In fact we have lots of returning ones. Cases vary, but mostly we get pretty positive feedback on that. If you have specific issues - come up with those and let's see what we can do about it.
wkuhn
Humm. The new logo does not read well to me. The boo and nex are separated and the mark is not strong. Sorry, i thinkt he last one was better.
Andrew Boon
Thank you for feedback. I think we'll now work on making the new one feel stronger. :)
HikeMaster
Will there be an upgrade patch from Dolphin 6.x to NBT, or some kind of migration utility, or something?
Andrew Boon
You don't want to "catch" me, do you?
ilumy
A beautiful NEW Looggo, looks fresh and young.

Unfortunately, I still find bugs and there is no site where this man can pass.
I think it is important to eliminate the bugs as a NEW logo.
TeethDown
yes, another big thing since the old one didn't work. Noone expected, huh? ;)
Andrew Boon
Old one, and the "current" one did and do work pretty well. In most cases much better than anything you'd put up to compare.

I'm sorry if the news about us trying to come up with something we feel excited about bugs you, but this is how it's going to be. And after NBT there's definitely going to be another NBT, and then another one.

I don't usually use it for anything but cross testing but the website is looking all funky in IE6 (the /unity homepage). And that's about my only complaint about Boonex products: they never seem to work right on all browsers. It sure looks nice, has a lot of cool features but that doesn't do much if only some people will be able to use them. So I think that if you are coming out with a new product it should fix the "old things" to a level where they work everywhere. Just my two cents.

It's obvious you GET what the internet is becoming. I, for one, look forward to what you're developing if it's built with what you just said as its core idea and drive.

Thank You for all your hard work!!
