Special Blog Area

Wouldn't it be nice to have a special blog area where we can all just chat and have funny with each other when it doesn't always deal with dolphin software?

A place here with "NO" voting, blogging with members where we can blog, laugh and relax, taking a break from working and running their websites?

We could call it "Safe Haven Blog" or something like that.

I have fun here when i can blog teasing and funny responses back and forth with the members. It takes me away from all the negative blogs and relaxes me. But with the new rules i am always questioning if they will delete my response if it has nothing to do with the site or software.

So what do you all think on this? Just an idea is all..lol

On the first page of my nerd site I have an avatar chat. You can play tag there too!

I like this idea. It will help us all to relax and not take things so seriously. Good way to get know one another as people vs. avatars or member names only.

How many nerds you got on that site now?

I have almost 4000. I have a decent Alexa score and my traffic/google adsense pays for my hosting.

Are you a nerd there? If you would like to be nerd, I can make you a pundit nerd. I will send you a special badge and hat in the mail that you must where prior to posting.

Additionally, you must have a video cam to prove you are wearing your specially assigned pundit cap and badge.

Only then will you be recognized.

I have suggested a lounge area for the forums here http://www.boonex.com/unity/forums/#topic/Forums-suggestions.htm

lightwolf, i dont think the rules indicate that your blog has to be about the site or the software, your blog can be about whatever you want to blog about, there are some parameters within that blog that must be met, but specific topics as to the best of my recollection, would not be one of them.

The rules state that all blogs need to be of Dolphin subjects, or software basically. I just wanted a place here where we can still be on site and be able to have fun with each other with words that "Do No Harm" to each other. I Don't feel this would a good place for this type on conversation, so needs it's own zone. The Forums are to "how do i say this without a fending others" technical..lol

hello, good idea, i like chat at boonexnerd, i also like the idea in itself, having a "lounge area", while staying here on the site. this will be applied on my community too, a tab like breakpace lol.

I also considered that a separate no rules area would be a good idea - I have one on my site and many other sites I frequent operate in this manner. But I think I have a more workable idea for boonex / unity.

I think that the Blogs section is already a no rules area (well by standard web terms it is) - people post about anything they like - and people say pretty much anything they like in response.

I think that Boonex should simply move the Blogs link on the Unity home page to the bottom. Swap see more it over with the answers link. Change the focus.

IMHO the focus is all wrong - the Answers section needs to be promoted more. (This will cure the lack of support some of us complain about) Most web users have a limited amount of time - between jobs, socialising and normal day to day life the remaining time is limited - By the time you've finished catching up on the blogs, there is very little time left to go do something useful - like answer a question in the answers section. Changing the focus will help change peoples web habits on this site (it will also stop support questions being posted in the blogs (A bone of contention for some)

I think in reality the tools are already here - they are just not being used to their full potential.

Someone already previously suggested that the User blogs shouldn't be aggregated on the main site as it gave a bad impression (they now no longer appear there) - I think demoting the Blogs link on the Unity page is the next logical step.

I truly believe that mo amount of moderation will change the blogs, this has already been proven by the fact that some pretty 'out there' things have been posted and that problem posters are still being allowed to post. People will always want to get up on their soap boxes - whether in the current blogs section, or a new section - anywhere that free speech is encouraged this will happen.

Creating a new area will probably just make the moderators job harder as they will have an additional area to patrol - keeping the existing area - but perhaps unmoderated (or at least under-moderated as it currently is) but moving it out of the lime light is a quicker, easier, and cheaper option.

I have to respectfully disagree DosDawg.

I don't think it has been made clear at all what is - or isn't allowed in the blogs area. It really seems to be based on the perception of whoever views it - and has the power to delete it.

There was a blog removed last night and I have no idea why. I have seen others that I thought would be removed and never were.

My recent blog was removed and I never received any reason for it other than the generic post that Victor made. My blog post didn't fit see more any of those descriptions. Neither did the blog that was removed tonight.

I think it would be nice to have a place to blog where posts don't just disappear without any apparent reason - no warnings - and no explanations.

The system that is in place here isn't rational - hence my statement that I will not post anymore blogs on Boonex. There isn't any point to it. It's a waste of time. Even commenting on a blog is hit or miss.

In my case, having my blog deleted subjected me to one pundits scolding about what is & isn't globally acceptable in a blog post. This, after obviously never having read my post. I'm not sure where some people are getting their logic from.

It's implied guilt when a persons post gets removed. It can also receive scorn - as was my case.

Ironically, I saw at least one person in the past who actually *asked* to have their blog deleted - and it remained until a couple of days ago. It may still be there.

No. The Boonex blogs are very, very censored. The reasons elude me, but they are. So I whole heartedly agree that it would be nice to have a place to blog - other than Boonex. Some people aren't welcome to blog here & I would be one of them.

I don't believe that I'm a problem, though it would seem that some with power view me as one. But then if having a blog deleted was the way to judge worth here - there are a lot of people who are a problem, since there are a lot of people who have had blogs deleted.

I don't care really. I think it's silly that someone would hop on their high horse and arbitrarily delete posts. But to say that "your blog can be about whatever you want to blog about" is wrong. It can't be & I will be happy to post a few more legitimate blogs to prove it if that's what it takes.

I think it puts the new moderators in a really bad position since they are going to be the first people accused of removing posts, when it probably wasn't them.

Then again, who knows. I don't - not really. See what I mean?
DosDawg
you are correct, and i seen where there was a blog removed with no real measure, and i actually took a moment to write in and ask that if a blog is going to be removed, the rule violation needs to be stated, and then it can be hidden, the blogs are not deleted, not by the moderators.

i will hide a blog only, and i repeat, only if its detrimental or blatantly harmful to boonex, another member or any other person.

i think your blogs should be held in high regard, as long as they are clean, see more non-abusive, non-threatening, non-aggressive, clear and concise in its presentation does not even need to be achieved here on a blog, as a blog is in my opinion. for ramblings.

yes please do post on here, and we will see what takes place. i can assure you that i have not removed any of your posts. i have removed a few posts over the past couple of days, i have also when available written to the author of posts on here and informed them the post was in violation of the blogs rules or as we are all aware, the constitution declared by Andrew.

categories and topics are not specifically outlined as to what we can or cant post, that is correct, however, there are specifics that say what should not be included, i.e. support related inquiries. at any rate. i do want you to continue to blog here, as i truly believe we are going to be able to turn this around and create a positive flow of communications on this site and on the forums.

just as an example, there have been no "negative posts" today.

I agree I don't think there is any rationale on the way things are handled here.

Just had a thought - Here's another idea.

With Dolphin there is the possibility to create groups - just let everyone create their own group where they can set the rules and moderate it themselves. That way if you don't like the way some people communicate, or disagree with thier opinion - go create your own group.

The trolls can have their own group, so can the experienced users, noobs another group, there can see more be groups for controversial users and ones for women - no one need upset anyone else again.

Rambling?..lol I LOVE to ramble myself, it's a way to release energy constructively of course.I also love to tease friends in banter and laugh at their responses. I bet you all can agree here that we all really need to relax and breath and have fun! I have met a lot of nice but most importantly fun people here and make this site my first stop, even over my site.

I hope we can have with the new Boonex site upgrade a place to just have fun here as well as not all tech issues. After all we are trying see more to create Communities...yes? This could also be all Dolphin Webmasters and Developers Community as well. A place to chat with others in a POSITIVE way and take a break from our own sites and projects.

I have learned a lot from this site about websites and some programming and hope to learn more. So if grandma can do it, anyone can.
