Some of our customers now have to face a delayed support service. We apologize for the waiting. Half of our technical staff is now on vacation and those in the office are doing their best to keep up with the load.

We are already recalling some of the techs from vacation early and will fully restore proper response time by the end of next week. We do understand that delays may be unacceptable for some, so we try to address most urgent inquiries first.

In short... again, sorry about delays, and if you can/would wait - thank you.

i bought this last friday - your marketing guy finally sorted out my license today but I STILL HAVE NO SOFTWARE - I only have the free version and no link to the ad-free version - am getting really pissed off with this. Take a look at your automation/scripts guys. The link in my purchase history just goes to a 404 error. ARGGHHHHHHH!!!

I bought this on Friday - it took the team at Boonex until today to get me a license and then when I entered the code into my install for Dolphin it still has ads - after some research i found that some people are saying that you have to get a different, full version before entering your code. so don't you think that you should retract that comment as I've been thru the mill just trying to get the thing to work and do not appreciate comments like that.

let me guess, you downloaded the free version from the same page as the ad free version, and you blame boonex because of your poor eye sight in not noticing that you already had the link to the download for the ad free version.

I'm that "guy" who replied you from marketing@boonex.com. The software should be downloaded at boonex.com/products/dolphin/download, note please, you need to download the free package there and once again, sorry that your license hasn't been generated right after the payment but you know, in most cases this happens due to connection errors or some people do not come back to BoonEx site when payment is completed.

I don't think it's a problem of this period. I bought the licence in Juni. I contacted support for a problem which i wanted to solve (changing a code for the poll).
AFTER 3 WEEKS (!!!) the support replied me saying: "to solve your problem, install Firebug to see where your problem is. And change the code". And this was all!!!
Really unbelivable.
Joomla, I think, it's the best: free and really good supported.

Oops, sorry, but I was reported that your requests have been replied the same day in June. You wrote us on June 27 and has been replied the same day. Our support specialist has worked with you regularly and all the requests have been replied in time. There is a delay with the last one, on July :(

i have the Free version already installed - I added the license code to the advanced settings section yet still I have ads. Is there any sure way to just register this product - seems a bit scrappy to me that even though I have bought and entered the code I still have ads. Do you know why the license page does not show my domain name?

Despite the fact that the End User Agreement may state that there are no refunds, I'd thoroughly encourage you to pursue one anyway. They publicly posted a blog about how inept their support service is. I'd imagine, with all that said, that the law would side with as long as you're a US citizen. Good luck.

what licenses did you buy last friday? you have only been a member since Tuesday.

let me try and explain once again, you say you have the free version installed. (that is the ad supported version) you have adfree licenses that you cant understand why you still get the ads showing, because you need to install the adfree version to use the adfree licenses.

after you do this, clear your browser cache as it will still hold the old files for the free version and the licenses for that. so see more will still display the ads.

I do not think it was a good idea to start a "Sorry about support delays" blog ... or maybe it was ...

I run Amistad.com (friendship.com in spanish) and I have to say that I gave up on Boonex support a while ago. It is sometimes there... most of the time not there. If I had a single word to describe Boonex support I would say it is "Bursty"... once in a while you get a burst of support then it goes away.

Needless to say, I am now using third-party paid support. And see more "yes" ... I bought the $999 all inclusive package .. I believe it was a mistake now.

The upgrade that Boonex did from 6.0 to 6.1 broke 1/2 of my site. I am still recovering from that mess. Seems like Boonex is more interested in adding new features instead of fixing problems and making this thing more stable.

Perhaps Johnnyh is not the most patient person out there, but I feel his pain. I been there Pal !!

One bug that is driving me nuts is the inefficient way Dolphin looks up friends in MySQL. Take a look ... it takes at least 35 secs to display this profile with 83 friends: www.amistad.com/cafealmediodia .. or the friends look up at http://www.amistad.com/viewFriends.php?iUser=66021 ... what do I get from support? "You have too many pictures, music and photos" .... well.. that is NOT IT !! Took me a while to figure it out but the culprit is an inefficient left join in a SQL query:

The server ... an 8 core (dual 4-core) Xeon dedicated server with 4 gigs of ram. Should be enough for this application .. right?

And think about it ... Cafe al Mediodia has around 9000 friends in MySpace ( www.myspace.com/cafealmediodia ) ... There is no way I could get close to that using Dolphin... it would take a week to get the profile up in the browser !!!!

What kind of social networking platform are you able to run if you CAN'T have a ton of pictures, music and photos?!?? These guys blow. Every entry I read brings back the horrible memories of working with them earlier this year. It was a literal nightmare. I eventually gave up on them. They suck that bad. It was like a wave of apathy showed me the light. And when I moved on, it was like leaving a bad marriage or an abusive girlfriend. So see more liberating.

This brings up an interesting thought about the scalability of Dolphin in general. Before purchasing I asked this question and was told it would handle thousands although I never really got an example site. It seems like someone (can't remember if it was Boonex sales) said Penthouse was using it. Now that could be another package I was reviewing before I purchased SmartPro. One would think that a site like that would have a rather large membership following.

For all the seasoned Dolphin site see more users, can someone tell me the average number of members you may have at any given time? 100, 1000, 10k? And can I take a look at your site?

I bought the software on Friday there was a glitch or something - I can prove it my bloody paypal receipt says so - I have also installed both copies of the software available on the download page and both give me ads. Please do not be rude - I have been writing software for about 20 years and know what I'm doing - there ARE some usability faults with these processes.

You got to ask yourself Sammie - do you think it helps by being so rude - what if your wrong, what if I have been a programmer for 20 years? The fact is this - you pay for something you expect to get something that is fit for purpose - so far, Dolphin has not fulfilled that brief.

I guess 1 useful thing to come from all this ranting and rudeness is the identification of a usability problem with one or more processes. The main being the purchasing process. The process should follow on from a successful transaction with a page that tells the consumer exactly what to do next - a link to the software that is most relevant to the transaction and the license. Given that we now expect instant results in a digital world, most of the above should be instant. There is no reason as to see more why the license generation and contextual software links should not be instant unless there are problems database side.

Perhaps a suggestion might be that Boonex conduct controlled testing with their processes to identify these little hiccups in the system. As it is - it's a great set of products and it seems that most of the questions in support are there needlessly as most of them could be removed through effective usability study.

Just a thought, but your step #3 says that you are using the free version. Unless it's changed, you need to use the ad-free version of Dolphin and then your licenses should work.

If you want the Orca links out you need to buy a license for that too.

3.) You will see the Ad-Free downloads.

You will still see the ray, orca, icons on the footer after entering your license. What will go away or should go away is the boonex links above them. The icons in the footer will remain for orca and ray as you do not have them licensed...so the icons/images for ray and orca will exist. The dolphin one should be gone and the boonex links above them.

Sorry the timer ran out. But you should then register the free orca license and free ray licenses for your site and enter them. This should make the ray icon go away even with the free bee. As far as I know of only 1 ray needs to be registered. Orca I can't say for sure I really haven't messed with the licensing on it much.

OK am now seeing an ad-free version of Dolphin on your site for download - this is very confusing as the version I installed as instructed was the Dolphin 6.1 + Free Ray 3.5 + Orca 2.0. I'll try that version. Cheers

I have about 78,000 users in Dolphin (Amistad.com). As far as number of users I do not think there is a problem with Dolphin. The problem is that users can NOT be very friendly at the moment ... hehe.

If they can find a way of optimizing this query, I believe this could scale up fairly large. I believe it has been an oversight ... that can be fixed fairly quickly. The problem with the left join is that I believe it creates a temporary file every time it executes, therefore is see more very slow.

Besides that, there are several ways to scale up Dolphin. You can always run the database (mysql) on a separate server and optimize that server just for SQL. Then you can cluster the website and even the database .. might require some ingenious changes to duplicate music, videos.. etc .. but perhaps those could even be served from a third server.

I am NOT giving up yet on Dolphin ... I think it has a lot of potential. Now, I do believe that they should concentrate on fixing bugs and making it stable and faster, and forget about new features for now.

For the moment, think of Dolphin as the base to build a social network ... not the complete solution. You will need to put some good hours to make it work right.

I have downloaded the free version and have uploaded to server but already got installation problem at the right first step!


I have installed Joomla and it was so easy I could not believe!

Even Oscommerce is easy to build entire ecommerce website!

Now what with Dolphin?!

As you know from request to support your server didn't satisfy to technical requirements - missing mbstring module.

You can do that from the command line (SSH) with the command:
chmod 777 /the/file/to/change

Well.... after reading all the comments I want to ask one thing... Why can't we be polite to each other? There are times when everyone has to ask some basic questions. Those of us who are "experts" now , did know nothing once. The spirit of a community is to welcome everyone and to help everyone getting started.

I have been hasitating in asking questions because i knew that i will recieve harsh and rude replies.

In my opinion, the biggest problem of dolphin is not the performance see more and scalability, but lack of community spirit and support.

And if they don't have respect for the customers, the customers SURE as hell won't have respect for the company. Hence, a very verbally violent discussion area. Especially when it comes to problems with software and support.

I think we are all here to help, some more than others. Some are more likely to work with you, but others have done this so long and heard it over and over again they don't want to deal with it.

So whether you are a programmer or not, it's a new program to you and if you do not understand it or how it works, it would actually be wise not to quote that you are a programer no matter what your knowledge is.

I think you will get a much better response if you leave that part out. And there are see more many levels of programming and scripting. Which is highly debate-able and often times don't mater.

This is a highly unique script mostly in php but obviously many others are incorporated at well. Unless you are a genius or extreme die hard, it does take a bit of time to learn the structure and how this thing works, no matter what your programming knowledge is.

Slow down...take a deep breath, and do a little research and asking. We will help you out the best we can!!

About the topic, It's nice to at least see that the guys in Dolphin acknowledge the problem, although, sometimes Sorry alone wont do the job. I can honestly understand Jonny's point of view.. I for example submitted a support ticket over 3 weeks ago.. I'm still waiting for an answer.

Unoboonex.. just a thought, maybe next year the guys should consider having their vacations in different times so that you wont fall short of half of your staff.

I purchased the SmartPro package in October of 2007 and I can assure you that the current software is not ready for commercial use. The Dolphin script is no more bug free now than it was 10 months ago and that is after countless upgrades and patches. They are planning to release a script called the NEXT BIG THING (see recent Boonex blogs for announcement), which they claim will be the ultimate upgrade and everyone will be dancing in the streets. I will believe it when I see it!

On Sat, Jul 26, 2008 I began asking Boonex support to solve the problems caused by the 6.1.4. patch. I sent them my passwords and access information FTP, CPANEL, ADMIN, etc at the time.

On Tuesday, August 5, 2008 (10 Days Later) I received the following:
Please provide me with FTP access to your site for checking.

O.K. - So I sent him the information AGAIN.

On Monday, August 11, 2008 (6 Days Later) I received the following:
Well - to fix your compilation problem I see more need root SSH access information. Because I can't delete some folders using this user.

Today is Monday August 18, 2008 and It has taken three weeks just trying to supply some access information. I am still trying to figure out what he is talking about. Does anyone know why he needs my root SSH access and what do I have to do to provide it for him. He already has access to all of the files and folders on my site.

We along with others are having problems with Ray Desktop 3.5. If you click on video it closes out the Desktop. Anyone that can help we would really appreciate it. We also bought the ad free license for Ray Desktop.

You have a fabulous product but only if it works.

The 6.1.4 security patch has wrecked our forum and Boonex support can not or will not fix it. After a month of back and forth with them we are appealing to any one who can fix this problem. When we try to recompile the language files for /groups/orca or for /orca we get a [L[Language files compilation have been failed]] error message.

The last suggestion Boonex gave us is to have your system administrator update the libxsl library on your server. Well we don't have a system administrator and we see more don't know what the libxsl library is and apparently Boonex is not going to step up and fix the problem without passing the buck back to us.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I wanted to buy a propak. i emailed boonex sales about a month ago. no replies. do boonex really a business or this a one man show business? after reading all of your posts i search somewhere else. do any of you khow where they have good scripts. dose not matter how much it cost. i just want a reliable software. i am expecting 1/2 mil members. i dotn think dolphin can handle that. does anyone know what myspace and you tube are runing?

Just a quick note on software.
I have worked in the software community for more years than I care to remember! But in regards to products like Dolphin from Boonex, give them a break they are trying to produce a product that is competing with other community products and they have all gone through the same thing at one point or another. The world of open sours and free software is not intended to be an easy boxed product all though they “the community at large” does a really good see more job INCLUDING BOONEX. I work with a number of Host providers testing products as if I where a client off the street. Try playing dumb! And at the same time get support. We take for granted that these individuals come together to start a product because they see the value of the products and a need to simplify the current products in the community. Products get better with community interaction and yes I have no problem with someone getting pissed off weather they buy support or not! Yet some of us have the ability to do a bit more by participating in writing documentation and standing up for the software community as a whole and individual companies and products. Oh one thing to the folks that responded to the pissed off individuals here on this forum. If you’re an evangelist or a support tech. please don’t let someone or many individuals get under your skin and respond negatively, I know you’re better than that because your product shows that. So remember biting your lip and tape those fingers together before you let them fly on the keyboard and yes they can get real bloody from biting your lip and holding back.

I really hope that Sammie isn't part of the actual "support" for this site and it's software. What a rude and tasteless woman. If the mods were smart they'd ban her from commenting for the simple fact that people like her are an immediate turnoff to ANYONE that ventures onto a so called "community" website. Anyone that paid for the software has the right to complain and be impatient if they can't get it working properly. That's what support is for after all. Between this see more and the shadiness in regards to 7's release date, Boonex is becoming less and less desirable. It seems every page I turn to has something very negative about it.
