Does anyone here have SmartPro? If so, have you had any problems with installing mods on it? Would you know how signicalty different it is from the regular Dolphin?  I"m just trying to figure why installing mods on it, turns out to be a headache. But these same mods work on the dolphin with ads just fine.

Another problem:

I tried to add a new block in the Admin menu section below tools and my admin menus went crazy.  I lost about 10 menu buttons and everytime I tried to add a new block, it kepting saying error and would copy itself with another menu button.  It's weird and fustrating.  So I had go into the database and delete all the copies it made - but  this is just one of my problems -   Has anyone experienced these errors in their admin panel?  any insight or something would be greatly appreciated.  I don't want to see 900 go to waste,  I am afraid to contact boonex support because they don't respond within a few days.  They go weeks without replying back (which I think is crappy) and when they finally respond, they say go to Skype live support, but I can't ever get a live person Cry.  But anyways, about the Admin menu issue,  what is wrong with it and why does it do that?

What are you trying to install. I can have a look for you if you want. I have installed a few mods in a SmartPro set up. It really isn't much different. just supposed to have some support which is a Joke.

SmartPro package differs from the regular Combo packages.
But actually the difference is not so big. So, 3d party mods can be installed without additional problems or site corruptions.

I admit that the corruption may happen during or after the installation of 3d party mod. This is due to that SmartPro has pre-integrated own add-ons already. They can be interfered with 3d party mods and corruption can be occured but with a very little percentage of probability.
My advise is to contact and consult see more first the developer of the 3d party mods if they can be used or already used with SmartPro package. Many of experts has worked with SP package and can speak for whether their mods can be used or not.

As for the Admin menu issue. We have experienced some bugs happening in IE. We have have fixed them in the today's release of the 6.0.0004 patch. We strongly recommend you to upgrade to it.

VictorT,

I am a little confused. Are you saying SmartPro is designed to integrate third party apps easier or it’s just taken an integrated some of the more common apps already?

I have been following Dolphin for almost a year now and have also made recommendations in Devzone for future enhancements as well as bugs I have found.

I love the work you guys have done and I cannot wait until the release of 6.1 as Dolphin will finally have enough of the basics I need to start my project. However, see more I know that I am going to need to make mods and I am going from time to time need some questions answered in a timely manner in an effort to be successful .

One of the things I am struggling with right now is how to have a developer make custom mods that are going to smoothly integrate to the Dolphin core as well as not hinder future Dolphin patches and upgrades so we can keep up with the latest’s improvements.

I mean does Dolphin have some kind of standards that a developer should be designing to make this process smooth. Something like an API or I know from working with Joomla they have a developers guide so that developers can write third party apps that very easily plug into the core as well uninstall from the core. While some of these can have challenges for the most part these third party apps are a breeze even for a novice to install, configure, and uninstall if needed.

I see where Boonex owns and operates a ton of their own sites. What concerns me a little and please take this only as constructive criticism is over the past year why you guys have done a fantastic job developing a world class community app the support process seems still needing some refinement.

For those of us out here that are serious web business people I have to wonder if your support focus is sometimes more on your own sites. Now I also realize that it’s good to have some of your own sites so you can test and mature the product for the good of everyone using them and you get an A+ for the progress you have made in making the apps what they are today. But keep in mind for those of us that want to use your product for building a serious website we need a way to get questions and support in a reasonable amount of time answered. Especially when I start paying for development of third party mods and developers are going to be in need of knowing certain things. At least I think so based on my experience.
I know it’s different for you guys as it relates to your own sites and it may be hard to understand from where you are standing because your in-house developers are already aware of all the ins and outs of your app and they control the roadmap to where the app is going.

It may be possible that I just don’t understand how all this works so please enlighten me the best way to approach future developing mods and making them compatible with future upgrades. I think there has got to be some set of standards some place that you guys are using internally so is there a place these are available to us.

I am trying to make my mods path and support for my future members as smooth as possible. So please don't read into any of this wrong.

If I upgrade to 6.004 won't I have bigger issues with the Mods I have installed? I ca'nt say my site is heavily modified but I think some files had to be altered ....

and where do I go to see what is fixed in 6.004 .. I think I"d probably be better off just waiting for the 6.1 release that everyone is talking about .. Carmen

we update our server with 6.004 and some mods must be again installed (its many times handwork to mod the scripts and grey hair is possible smile ) but at the other side is the security for our members and the support of boonex for this product really great and i look forward to see the 6.1 .
