the pictures seem to be an older version of dolphin prior to 6.1 and reading through the features it seems it has some mods installed, (maybe)... Not sure how legal this is though...? Um, any thoughts anyone else?
But theres no word from boonex. And the first look let users think that it is not dolphin. See the cover and the name from this article. I think legal would be when they say it is dolphin with mods inside but thats not. I am sure that this is illegal in this way.
they appear to be selling it as part of a package with added mod, they cant sell dolphin as a script on its own, they cant sell it with mods stolen either,
Dolphin can be given away as long as you leave the copyright intact you can not sell dolphin sites unless you sell it with a minimum of 500 registered users and they have to be active.
you can sell dolphin as part of a hosting package, i.e. pay for the hosting account and i'll install Dolphin for you for free. you can pay for support or i see more can give that free too. but you are paying for the hosting, not the script
That company is also selling "Xoops" and a few years ago Xoops tried to sue them... I guess it didn't pan out because they still are. I also know for a fact they have been selling Dolphin for a long time so I guess there is nothing Boonex can do about it?
Oh, they are also selling all those f-ed up scripts that the "buxton" guy sells on expertzzz.
I would only be concerned if they removed the iconic licensing from the site all proper OS has it including Xoops, Joomla and anything else you find in "fatastico". If he has I would check his Contributor Points because every STAR is a licensed free DOLPHIN so he could have built in that to the hosting he charges.
It looks more like a poor-mans web shop which usually operates inside OS guidelines just shadows the reality of what that is... Like PHP Facebook running on a Dolphin6.0 Beta see more Script released openly last September. But by his approach he lacks the capability of upgrades.
And he is technically just Marketing his own way. No different then a DolphinGeeks might or even how DolphinDomains.net is staged. There's many way's to market open source as a company...this is his.
I prefer exposing the source rather then hiding it but that's just me :)

This was my first thought too. I thought they might be the same person at first. Most of his come from http://www.dotcombuilder.com
