Setting up a template working site

How weird is this, I just installed Dolphin on my server in a second instance to use as a template designing site and all hell broke loose. The installation messed with my actual Commune site, the databases got mixed up and I lost what little we had on our Pagan Commune. Fortunately, I had a friend who is a coder working on my site yesterday and she had made a backup of our site so we just dumped the corrupted database and imported the backup.

So this is my thing, how do we install Dolphin in a second instance on the same server without it interefering with your actuall community?

Or is this not possible?

I obviously cannot work on template designs within our Commune, just imagine the problems that would cause. Does anyone have any words of wisdom they can share, what's the proceedure for installing a second instance of Dolphin, if there is one.

Peace be yours sisters and brothers,

RevKF

Well, you just create a separate folder and install it there. 2 dolphins on the root cannot work together. Then you can find it at www.yoursitename.com/newfolder/

Thank you very much for your input shaneed, that's what I did mate, I know what I did wrong now, I stupidly imported the database from our commune to fill the design site out a bit, I figure that's where I went wrong!

Rev,
i have done the same thing with using an existing dbase, and didnt face any problems. so to actually pinpoint where something went wrong, well maybe when you copied the site the header.inc.php was still calling the production site and that made it go wack, dunno, never faced the problem, but have done the clone on many instances.

hope things work out for you.

Hiya DosDawg, I'll look at that later today, thanks for your input.
I'm still trying to get our sites design figured properly, I'll make a new blog topic about it, see if anyone knows about bits I'm stuck on. Making templates for Dolphin is a total nightmare.

Below is the legacy version of the Boonex site, maintained for Dolphin.Pro 7.x support.
The new Dolphin solution is powered by UNA Community Management System.
