Server Configuration

Would it be possible for someone to tell us what your ideal server configuration is for dolphin/orca/ray to work. No-one seems to be able to get it working perfectly bug free and surely you want this for newbies. We need more info on what the php4/5 config should be. Because these are options that everyone are able to change through php.ini.

Many Thanks

James

james, all i can say is good luck with that one. as you stated if so many people are having problems getting the script to run, and its not necessarily "bugs" but server configuration, then i would step out on a limb and say boonex dont want us knowing that. this would step on their wallets, as for every hosting account opened from this site on hfw boonex is credited $25.00, and that my friend is why you would never see them post the proper configuration. there are some hints as to what see more you should have as a bare bones minimum, but there are many parameters, and you must understand this as well, not all shared hosting is going to allow the server settings to be changed. there are a few of us with vps and dedicated hosting boxes, but you can read on here that tons of users are using wamp or xamp, or some shared $2.00 per month hosting account, and that is just never going to work for this script i can assure you of that.

i dont think many are running php4 any longer, but if they are they should upgrade. php5 does run a lot smoother, and you forgot to mention phpcgi, or suphp or phpexec, so there are many different avenues that would need to be addressed and not one servers settings would be exact to the next. there are some modules that are required with the php build, that if they are not done, such as xml and xslt or even xmlrpc for phpcgi, but this is in my opinion a server to server basis, and not something that would be generalized.

not all users of this script have access to server side php, and would only be able to change settings via htaccess or if allowed site side php.ini.

but this is a good question, and would like to see boonex touch on it. i have personally sent them emails asking the same question, but of course that has gone ignored now for about five weeks.

boonex recommend the minimum requirements in the following order:
1: dedicated server
2: VPS
3: hostforweb account.

the reason?
Dolphin is the most advanced script of its kind, it has features most others lack or dream of, it uses advanced code to obtain the best performance and that means using none standard server settings and the recommended dedicated server is the best option to get the best from dolphin.

Dolphin is not and never has been intended for a free or cheap shared hosting see more account, Dolphin is a script made for serious webmasters with a good knowledge of what they are doing and have the resources to hand to make good use of the script.

most people on here have problems because they do not even meet the minimum requirements (sad but true, 90% of people do not even read the minimum requirements) before posting problems they start to face.

ah DD you mean them doors that are closed with a huge sign saying pull and they keep trying to push it open?

yes we have a lot here that dont know when to pull or push lol, like the php programmer that asked me for help, and i asked his level of skills and he told me he's a php programmer, so ok i can help him out, he wont take long to know what i am talking about right?

wrong. lol when i told him to chmod the files he asked me "whats chmod?" to ok, not an english guy so maybe dont see more know that means set the file and folder permissions, so tell him to do that and let me know when he's finished, 2 minutes later hes back asking how do you set permissions?
now a php programmer, that has no idea how to set file permissions hmmm, so he told me he has never done it with an ftp program before.,
things started to go down hill when he couldnt work out what to put in the database fields on the install.

somehow, claiming to be what you aint, is a common thing here.
i dont mind helping people, even help people that know nothing, but please dont waste my time lying to me. as thats one thing i can not stand.

if i have an hour spare i'll do the install for you, free, but i would sooner teach you how. but to tell me you are something you clearly are not, is not going to win me over.

it really is sad that people do this here.
