Roadmap, Milestones and Tickets

Andrew Boon posted 25th of August 2010 in . 5 comments.

As part of the BoonEx Support, Documentation and Trac update we have made some changes in Trac structure in an effort to better organise bug-tracking, development and release procedures. Premium members can submit and comment on tickets, but it is very important to understand the new structure works before adding anything.

Tracking development milestones is a great way to monitor development progress and see which parts of the software are being improved or fixed. I recommend at least taking a quick look at the Milestones and tickets in them.

How it works

  • Due dates. We do not set specific dates for version updates, but try our best to release them every 4-8 weeks.
  • Specific versions. BoonEx Team prioritises tickets and assigns them to specific versions.
  • Bug reports. All problems should be submitted to Problems milestone, until they are verified/reproduced and moved to Bugs. You are welcome to help us reproducing reports.
  • Enhancements. Suggestions, ideas and feature requests should be posted to Ideas and Dreams milestone.

We track all submissions and move them to appropriate milestones, if needed. You may notice that we have a milestones for:

  • old 6.1.x branch; (still supporting it)
  • service update that's currently in development (7.0.3); (normally the closest upcoming update)
  • list of Release tasks for closest update; (things we need to do once the script is ready)
  • "open" milestone for potential service releases (7.0.x); (tickets that didn't make it to the closest update, but need to be addressed ASAP)
  • new version (7.1); (new functionality, features, new modules, significant changes, etc)
  • major new version (8); (all-new platform)

Your ideas and suggestions are very welcome. With this new structure we hope to keep the process transparent, which should, in a way, help those concerned about Dolphin's future. It should also keep us more organised and less prone to making stupid mistakes.

Important note about Tickets!

Trac tickets are Development Tickets, not Support Tickets. This means that we would remove or close any reports that cannot be reproduced or are arising due to problem in specific installation or server configuration. Please, use Unity Forums or contact your BoonEx Agents to get those problems resolved. Unfortunately, in most cases, core developers can not afford working on specific support issues. We appreciate your understanding and we try to be more involved in support forums whenever possible.

Hello Andrew :-)

"Bug reports. All problems should be submitted to Problems milestone, until they are verified/reproduced and moved to Bugs. You are welcome to help us reproducing reports."

I cannot find how to post a Problem that needs to be verified ??? There is no button, no link, no text area (tried with IE and FF)...

The problem I'd like to report is: D7.0.2 - When deleting a photo from the Admin panel -> Modules -> Photos, the original photo is not deleted but only see more the 3 resized images.

Click "Add new Ticket" and choose "Problems that need to be verified" milestone to post it to. Thanks!
