Real members are hard to find

I have a pretty cool site..I have some friends who I invited to join who have created profiles but shoot I have 20 members on my site. I am at a loss for memberships, I have a Google adwords campaign going, I have joined a banner exchange, my site is so SEOed out it can't get any better, yet nobody is joining... I have three levels of membership including a feature filled free membership and nothing is happening. I refuse to buy some cheesy database of fake profiles or create a bunch of profiles of people who don't exist, I want real people to enjoy my site. it's not bad and full of some great features and customizations. There are a ton of good reasons for people to spend time on my site except there isn't anyone there..Anyone have any thoughts one this?

Well here is one reason you are not getting new members.. When I tried to visit your site I told to buzz off... "Access to the site is closed for users from your country".
Checked out your site, not bad..

As for the market you are attempting to reach, you have to be willing to do some self promotion, and hard work for getting members.

You cannot just expect to create a site, (no matter how many features it has) and have people just come in.

Word of mouth is the best way to get quality members, and creating a promotion can help in getting new vistors (ie a free trip or vacation or something) but make sure you are in compliance with your local laws on offering see more such a thing.

Yes hard work any 18 hours a day at the least, i opened my other website 2 weeks ago whilst developing the site with a friend etc etc and now over 100 members, cant say i tried hard but i kept it relevant anf targeted. I have few friends joined up (a small handful) but from hard work and niche targeting mine is off to a good start. do lots of link exchanges write articles use large social network, im telling you it works. Good luck

meant to say, this is where most of my time has been spent, preening the site, constant modifications bug fixing u name it, advertising at neich networks im soon to launch mine using the press. Dont be scared you gota get in there. If somethings good its good. :)

Roger why they think its a virus lol are you known for a spot of virusing? lol

Sorry baggypants,
nothing personal..I have restricted IP access to the site. To keep out potential hackers and scammers. I know not everyone is, but my site is targeted to a specific niche..
carreral4
excuse me! where did you learn to be so defensive and rude? That was intended to be advice not of which you had to take ofcourse. Go and get some manners then you may find some members.
carreral4
sorry drake i thought that was targeted at me. didnt relise there was a baggy pant scammer on here until now.

Hahaha, Carrera14 that made me laugh out loud... just the thought of him calling you "baggypants", haha. "baggypants" was the other user who said he couldn't visit the site because his IP was blocked.
I had almost all of Europe blocked at one point because my logs showed about 15 people a day trying to hack into my sites.. I got tired of REAL users saying they couldn't access them so I just tightened up security and removed my IP blocks :-)

I'm new to this, so I'm no expert, but I noticed a couple of things that might help. You have a couple of items that are listed that are empty (events, polls, classifieds, etc...) I would eliminate those from your homepage until those begin getting used, or go in and make some entries yourself. 2nd thing I noticed is that when you first go to your site, you basically only see the header and the menu links. You have to scroll down to see a lot of the components. I would cut your header size in see more half, minimize the height or, add the scrolling information bar you have that explains your site, into the header. Lastly, I like how you intergrated phpbb, but you have no forum posts. Also, your forum rules kind of scared me a little. It also says that if there aren't forum posts for your topic, then you can't discuss that subject. But there aren't any posts yet, so if I was a user, I would assume that I'm not allowed to post. I could be wrong, and you might have hidden posts to non members, but that's what it looks like to an unregistered person.
Just my 2 cents.
