Problem: I Can't Fix My Site

Hey guys and girls,

Basically, this is what happened. I added a security patch to the original site, but obviously didn't do it correctly as the whole thing went down and then had to reinstall a backup once I got rid of the altered files. I'm now having loads of problems getting the site to run correctly.

For some reason, when people try to comment on blogs or in forums, they are redirected back to the index page, rather than being able to leave a post for others. Also, I have problems in that the drop down menu thing isn't working correctly, it's not popping up the hover at all on the homepage and then goes static once you get into the internal pages. My RSS feeds also won't pull, either from the forum section of my site, or from the external site I was relying on to get my feeds that relate to the content of my site. Oh, and finally, the promoblock isn't working. It's just showing one image and it's making the resolution look crappy.

Any idea about what I can do to sort these out? Right now I'm thinking that I'm going to have to uninstall the whole front end (leaving the SQL DB) and then upload it all again from the original. I have the alterations saved, so it won't be too hard to reimplement the aesthetic changes.

Please, if you do have any tips or suggestions, I would be most greatful!

Thanks!

what security patch? not mine i hope, it was only adding 2 lines to 2 files.

what files did you change?

Epps, scrap security patch (I thought it was, but i'm wrong)..it was the upgrade 6.0001. So everything in there. I thought I removed all the files I uploaded and replaced them with the originals, but there must have been something I overlooked. Teaches me to mess with things that are working well in the first place and dl'ing things when I'm half asleep.

I'm guessing I upgraded to a downgrade (if that makes sense), as I am/was using the latest dolphin version. Still thinking that the only way see more to resolve things is to backup my SQL database (though I did that and still have the original pre uploading the silly new files) and then taking everything down to start from scratch over. Pretty lucky at the moment that there's only friends using the SN, so I can explain the downtime.

Which reminds me, a number of my friends use FireFox and have issues when trying to copy and paste things into their blog. Apparently they get a security message and the paste is blocked for them. Is this common with dolphin and what should I recommend to them? Personally, I tend to use IE7 and opera, which both seem fine.

Anyway...I hope this helps some to figure things out :)

Firefox and copy & paste: Use the control c and control v for copy and paste in firefox.

I did tell them to try that, but I'm not sure if it worked for them or not really as I've not spoken to them today.

Thanks for the tip :)

Look your file inc/header.inc.php
This file could be currupt.

Also recompile all cache. This may fix your problem. I recommend you to install new dolphin with this database.

Brilliant, thanks. I'll take a look at the inc/header.inc.php.

Thanks also for the link to dolphinpros, that's really handy and much appreciated! :)

I would recommend you to make a new dolphin install and then import the old database backup into it. Also upload the old media files (photo, video and music files uploaded by users) .
