No dashboard activity feed?

For all the great functionality that dolphin 7 has, I really can't believe that there is no activity feed in the dashboard.  The spy module is simply not adequate and in fact I find the information provided there mostly useless.  Where is the activity feed of the likes of facebook?  Aren't activity feeds what are really helping social networks grow?  When you log in you should immediately see what other members have been up to.  photos added.. videos.. blogs.. marketplace listings.. events... basically everything.  A good activity feed is really the only way to ensure that members are connected with less minimal effort on their part.  I really hope a developer or boonex staff will chime in and let us know that development of this is on the way.  I want to become a prime license holder but I don't think I can get myself to do so until this is implemented and implemented well.  Dolphin 7 has a lot of potential but the likes of phpfox and social engine, among others, already have great activity feeds.  You've made an attempt with the 'wall' feature but it has to be expanded and brought to the dashboard as well.

Please leave your comments.. I'd love to see the communities input on this.

What would be the point of having an activity feed in two places? I don't get it.

The activity feed on your profile only shows YOUR activity.. the activity feed in the dashboard shows ALL your friends OR the sites activity... drawing you in to conversations... peeking your interest on what other people are up to. Getting you involved in ideas and conversations you may have otherwise never seen. Do you use facebook? That's the number one reason facebook got where it is.. because they were the first to really have and master the activity feed. phpFoX is on the road to doing this see more properly.. as is social engine.. but boonex/dolphin has seemed to leave it out entirely (what I like to think of as most important these days). All these modules (polls, gallery, blogs, forums, etc) are all useless if members aren't drawn to them. People LIKE posting things on facebook because they KNOW all their friends are going to see it and comment on it. I don't waste my time posting things on sites where I think they will never be noticed.. What's the use of expressing myself? Social networking these days is all about activity feeds and notifications.. Dolphin seems to have the notifications part down.. but notifications are of no use if no one (or less people) view the content in the first place. Do you get the picture now? I hope I made sense to you in my ramblings.

On Facebook you only see updates of friends right? I would think that getting your members to subscribe to the profiles that they want to keep updated on would be the best method, though I have to admit that I haven't really tested it out to the max.....but it might be what you are looking for.

"Do you get the picture now? "

No. While I agree that the wall needs to evolve quite a bit, an activity feed in the dashboard makes no sense to me,

That seems like a good place for an activity feed to me. Where should the activity feed go?

Forget everything I said. I'm having a brain malfunction today, I was thinking of an aggregate wall on the profile, but that won't work. It has to be two separate feeds, and the dashboard is where it should go.... although I think there could be a better name for dashboard.

So..... In a rare, complete reversal of opinion, I completely agree with the top post. As a self imposed punishment for my idiotic train of thought, I have given myself a minus on both of my posts.

ha... don't beat yourself up about it houstonlively. I'm glad you're on board though.. we really should try to push this point.. Can anyone suggest the best place to make this request heard? I'm not new to social networking but I am unfamiliar with boonex's site and structure here. Let me know and lets try to get this feature included in the first subversion or so :)

I think the brain's working a little better today. The best place to put it would be to add it to trac as an enhancement. I'd be happy to do it, but would like to see a little more input from others first. It should not be that difficult a task, because it seems as though the basic functions to get the data are already coded. More input from others might be helpful, but this should be entered into trac before some Boonex employee gets the idea to sell a mod that does this.

One of the features see more I'd like to see, is different activity feeds, according to privacy group, including any privacy groups you the member created. In other words, an activity feed for 'Friends', and any custom privacy groups such as 'Family', 'Colleagues', etc. A public feed on a busy site may, or may not be very useful, as it would change too rapidly to keep up with.

One of the things that needs trimming, is the way photos are announced on the wall. If someone adds a dozen photos, I really don't think a separate wall post for each and every photo is necessary, only that a dozen photos were added. If the feed is too cluttered, it will be unusable.

There is already friends' activity in Dolphin : Spy -> Friends

Alex, the spy module doesn't even come close to what we're talking about. What are we supposed to do with the Spy feature, other than sit there and look at it? We are talking about an interactive activity feed that is an aggregate of you, and your friends walls, all in one place.

The easiest way for you to understand, would be to go join facebook, and see for yourself how a well designed activity feed works.
