Need new template engine???

I'm literally considering a rewrite of the entire Dolphin Template Engine, this thing is annoying.  I mean referencing templates based on page numbers, 'cmon,  I just wish it was easier to write a template if needed.  So far I've found that our favorite variable $ret is scattered all over the scripts directory of template folders.

Me, I'm a firm believer in Joomla's and phpBB 2.xx template system, it was easy and comprehensible.  Simply passing pre $define variables and placing them inside the HTML.  I've also noticed that Dolphin uses $preg_replace()
inside it's design.inc.php file which could definitely be used to the advantage of a new template system.  Something needs to be done about this system, and if no one on the boonex team is willing to fix it, then seems I will be making a mod soon!

I ABSOLUTELY agree with you. Dolphin makes it virtually impossible to get a custom design going... especially if you don't know PHP. What about the WEB DESIGNERS, do we really have to break our heads to modify the tiniest little thing?? I just spent 3 hours looking for a clue on how to get a damn icon to display next to my join now / member login links... 3 hours and nothing!!! I have customized dozens of scripts and this has to be the most complicated, idiotic template system I have ever seen hands see more down. And did you take a look at the css? There is close to 100 CSS files... WTF???? Are they crazy? Its a full time job just trying to track down a style tag you want to change. Its very discouraging!
