It's BoonexNerd.com with no "S"

jtadeo posted 11th of February 2008 in Community Voice. 22 comments.
It seems that someone or a company has taken the step to unilaterally
register a domain name that may cause some confusion with my current domain.

My domain name is www.boonexnerd.com and the domain they registered has the letter "s" at the end of the domain name.

In order to avoid confusion, it is BoonexNerd.com
without an "s".

It's BoonexNerd.com - the original Boonex Dolphin Tutorial site

You can get more info from my dolphin blog.

One of key goals of my site is to provide FREE tips, tricks and resources
to Dolphin users and modders. To date, I have provided tutorials via the
site and also via my newsletter. It builds the Dolphin community and
also increases awareness about what is possible with Dolphin. My hosting paid via Google ads and donations.

If you somehow receive e-mails form "BoonexNerds.com",
please take note I have no connection with that company.
I have NO involvement with that company.

If you have any questions or information about this please contact
me via my BoonexNerd.com site.

Best,
James

Always ...Always...Always buy the typo domains or somebody else will
mscott
James, that stinks! Half the good names on the internet now are taken by these companies that just plaster automated google results on them! I'm going to go click their ads a thousand times right now so Google will cut them off click fraud.. hee hee hee.
sammie
click bombing huh?
well look out, if google can check what its employee's have been searching, online at home, i am sure they can also see if any of its adsense members click bomb other adsense members and you might find your own account deleted.

apart from admitting you're dishonest, you have also admitted that you will commit a crime in public, that means you admit to being stupid too.
whoever owns the other domian, can now just point google to your post as proof of a threat to click bomb see more their sites adsense ads, how long before google will check your listed sites on your profile?

poof your adsense account gone and theirs remains.

if you are going to be dishonest, and click bomb other boonex members ads, at least have the brains not to post about it stupid.

waits for you to click bomb my sites next.

We own a lot of sites online now. I have seen just about everything and then when you least expect it something new comes along.

This is my advice to you James. For small amount of cash it takes to by extra domains its just not worth not to snag types .net and some others. I think our cost per domain right now is only like $7.85 and $1 less then Godaddy

You put so much hard work anyone can see into your site. And in my opinion just looking at your work see more so far and what this whole Boonex community os missing your site is going to grow very well this year.

There for you are now faced with a difficult decision. And I personally would take the one I am about to tell you. Come up with a new name and change it now before your site has a ton of popularity. Grab all the surrounding domain names as well as any easy typos. Plan to spend $50 $60 on domain registrars alone for two year registration.
I know it’s hard to want to do this but it’s something if you don’t they will continue to make money off you over the long haul.
The only other possible option you have is to register a fictitious name for both domain names and then dispute them being able to own the domain name.

But there are some suggestions.
Zorro………………
It's called prospecting. They find a name that's increasing in popularity and try to clone it hoping to get fall out clicks.

I registered a name last year for a Philippine NGO and had to take it down because some other guy added an "s" and made a porno site.

Many unscrupulous people out there will do anything for a buck.

James is the real deal. A strong programmer and and awesome fellow, who when I was so completely lost and overwhelmed by trying to set up my first Dolphine site and had issue after issue he was right there to give me the benefit of all his experience and did it all just out of kindness.

Sad these prospectors are just lazy thieves... I know how hard it is to think of all possible combinations of a name....

BUT.... HEY !!! look at it this way..... if they didn't think your site was sooooo GOOD see more and that it will become so powerful and popular...they would NOT have wasted the effort trying to catch your "fall out" hits ! All the big sites have "piggy packers" ...maybe the message here is you're on your way to the big leagues ! :) :)

Take Care

Tigger (Dawn)
Hey Boss,

Dont worry we all know the REAL DEAL!! :-)
omg its just a way for you to "announce" your site over and over again. sheesh
Not sure I follow your comment ?

James has and continues to do outstanding work (mostly for Free) to the boonex community.

So, www.boonexnerd.com deserves all the attention it can get, but more so since it seems possibly someone is possibly wanting to capitalize off of his hard work we wants to make sure we all know that www.boonexnerd.com is not part of that site or even related.

So for the few that might have missed it, thats www.boonexnerd.com

Cheers,

I really like this new blog. I have had a couple problems sometimes getting a java error when I click on some of the reply to a specific poster for some reason. Does not happen with all the posers. Kind of strange.
But one thing I think would be a cool feature to add to this blog is you could sort by thumbs up or thumbs down and/or even possibly the number of thumbs up and downs.
That way you can very quickly look at the areas people are agreeing with or not as we all know how precious time is. see more
Maybe he is referring to my comment above and Dwain. If when you start an online site you buy the most common typos, miss spelling and .net, .biz and others while the creeps of the world have less chance of smudging off you his site would also then have many points of presence.
A lot of experienced webmasters do this.

Thanks for the encouraging words everyone. Having thought about it the day after and getting some helpful info from a bunch of people, it has put some perspective on what's what. It appears this is what *they* do and as such, that's just the way things are sometimes.

James,

Hang in there man. The things that have happened to me over the years you would just not imagine. Wait until you put a site above the 100K Alexa rankings mark. These cleaver little leaches get even smarter. They know who has traffic and who does not and in your case who has future potential.
I personally still stand by changing your name while it’s early or find away to legally take the name they snatched. That way the little puck a_s leach gets nothing but an expense of buying what see more will then be a useless domain name.

I think your creative enough to come up with a name similar or even different. Not going to spell them all out here as we all know MR. Leach will get those too. Got to remember while there is a lot of people here that may know you now and what the difference is. As your site grows and the newbie’s are consistently flocking to this site and possibly others in time you’re not going to want to constantly explain the “S” to everyone.

You caught this early enough and that is a good thing because most people do not and that is why they are stuck with it for the long haul.

The net is full of leaches my friend and am sorry to say this leach is probably among us.

But the good news is this guy also recognized your future success so take it as flattery and build your vision man!

You go boy…………….!

Make a business decision now and not an emotional one. The cool thing about having talent is that people always copy you or find a way to leach off you. The cooler thing about having talent is that they have to try and keep up with you…:-)

Hi James,

Thanks for the assistance--you are one amazing fellow AND the real deal!!

(I know it doesn't help much but remember--Imitation is the most sincerest form of flattery!!)

Best regards,

As for me I just see someone who registered a well known domain name with the letters n-e-r-d at the end of the domain name...
jtadeo
Hi MichaelSwiss,

I understand while it may seem all I did was add the term "nerd" after the Boonex name, it is one way that an OS app like Boonex can grow in poplularity via the efforts of enthusiastic users and programmers extending the name. My site's goal is to complement and not compete against Boonex.

Having sites like BoonexNerd.com can help increase the chances of the Dolphin community growing in numbers. This can contribute to the company's growing stability and may even translate see more to more resources to everyone's benefit.

If you are aware of other apps like Joomla, PHP, Flash (not OS), Active Server Pages and many others, it is an acceptable practice within their respective communites. This is one of the things that makes the Web a very unique place. But don't take my word for it. I say you Google these phrases and check it out for yourself. You will see key terms being used as part of the domain name.

Regarding the site name, I've openly approached Boonex about the site earlier this year and it seems they are fine with it. In fact, it was applauded by the exec director of Boonex. It was one of the defining factors that gave me the privilege of being a Boonex Pundit.

If you get a chance, you have my personal invitation to visit my site. Check out the tutorials, try them out and if you want to purchase a Boonex license, you can click on one of the Boonex banners on my site and it will take you to the Boonex site so you can make your purchase.

This is an exciting year for Boonex and everyone involved in its growth and development and I for one think it's just the beginning.

I totally agree with jtadeo..!

Been working with the Joomla com since it begain. Nothing wrong with what he did only the person that did him wrong by purchasing the typo.

many times these guys figure this stuff out using spyware so when you start checking or registaring domain names you better make sure your PC is clean. Also always turn off any kind of tool bars you have like Google and Yahoo and others.

Here is the company responsable: I would call his butt up and ask him nicely to give see more your domain back. If that don't work then give his fax number listed here to as many broadcast fax services you can find. see how he likes it.

Zorro....................................
Zorro,

We have to stop meeting in the same places :-)

I am not sure spam is the best way to handle this.

But they do have over 300,000 domains
zorro
It was just a joke. But ya I can't stand these kind of guys. We own a lot of domains too. About 100. But many are used as well as planned for future things.

Guys like this just make me roll my eyes. As bad as this may sound it still may be worth to contact them and see if he can buy the domain back for a small amount of profit.

I hate to say what I just said. But the bottom line is as his site gorws so is that simple typo.

Hey man, thanks for the info.
I'm a newbie and needed a lot of tips and tricks for boonex.
The "fake" site sure sucks!
I'll join your community, that's for sure!
Thanks again!
*hats off*

Hey "Nerd" - I look at it like this... If they didn't think you/your site was any good, they wouldn't have 'copied' you, or "cloned" your addy. Also, from a Spiritual standpoint, God's got a plan! If you do the right things (being "righteous") God (of MY understanding) can and will take care of anything. So why not look at it as a COMPLIMENT! You must be doing something GOOD if they want to "clone" you. I don't think they'd have "cloned" your addy see more if you were totally out in left field. People tend to follow GOOD LEADERS - not jerks. I think it says a LOT for what you're doing. I suppose it's all in how you look at it. GOOD GOING "NERD" !!! - LEEvitOver (Lee-vit-Over@hotmail.com)
