Latest DDoS attack story and everything that surrounded it left an impression that our current hosting provider - HosForWeb is not a worthy choice for Dolphin hosting. But they are. I would go as far as to say that they are among the best for BoonEx-related hosting, and for many reasons:
- HostForWeb was hosting BoonEx and all our projects for about 8 years. We have had great experience with their customer support, network uptime and servers prices. In early days HFW even helped us to debug some issues in our site software when we were in trouble.
- They have always been great with hosting our customers' sites and BoonEx techs would always be a lot happier to deal with HFW than anybody else. HFW uses perfectly capable datacenter and they do care about their customers.
- Even during this attack HostForWeb was the most helpful in their support. Their techs worked-out the best way to protect the server with the resources available at that moment.
- There's no point going to a large super-hosting if you're just starting your Dolphin-based site. Nobody is going to be nice and personal with your Dolphin installation there. Chances are that you won't find any understanding of your specific needs, and Dolphin is not a simple script to host.
So, so even though HFW is not on the highest side of affiliate commissions payout for us we still feature them as a preferred host, because we believe that they are good hands to through our customers into. For Dolphin-based sites they are perfect.

Q. So, if it's so rosy, why are you moving?
BoonEx.com is different from your typical Dolphin-based site. We're a software company that has spikes of traffic and often makes a lot of enemies, mostly among competitors, and sometimes, sadly, among customers. So, we get attacked and we may require fast provision of protection hardware.
Moreover, we test and try different things all the time. Our latest developments and plans now require us to try cloud hosting and some more sophisticated server setups, which HostForWeb doesn't always have readily available.
We are prepared to spend more on hosting, since it's one of the major money-making business components for us.
In short, we are probably more technical (geeky, if you will) in our operations and needs than you need to be, and that commanded our decision to (perhaps temporarily) try another hosting provider, such as Softlayer, GoGrid or Amazon.
Hostforweb is still our recommended hosting provider and I hear they have some significant improvement plans, so we may as well get our servers back to them in the future. We highly recommend HFW for Dolphin hosting. HFW has vast Dolphin experience, good customer support and great network (guess you could feel how fast BoonEx.com started to work when we fixed our web-server software problems).

i hope not yo need it.
FTA: "We help hosting companies protectS THERE clients from DDoS!!!"
FTA: "Not only you get protection from DDOS, But also gives you additional layer of security from hackers!!!"
Was blockdos.net built by a 9-yr old?
I'm sticking with them for now.
The DDOS preventative measures you speak of are for regular DDOS attacks. The latest fad of botnets none of the preventative measures work. I have played with some botnets trying to learn how to fight back. And I have come up with some interesting methods. And created my own for fun..... I swear to god I never have used it other then to play in my own networks....lol...
The problem with blocking DDOS attacks by bots is that some people have botnets with over 10 000+ bots. I have test see more
Unfortunately, you're right, modern botnets and their operators are increasingly effective and defensive technologies are way behind.
I had a really bad experience with them. Moved to WIRED TREE almost 2 years ago. The best decesion I made. Since I moved, hosting has never been an issue for me again... EVER.

If I never asked, I was never going to hear anything from them about any issues/problems pending. However they were always quick to answer an e-mail which I appreciated because it made me feel that there was someone there. I think they have a potential to be great but just need to communicate more with customers so we can be proactive. I plan to stay with them. I love the see more
+ Customer service is fast and knowledgeable.
- The speed of the sites are slow a lot of times.
- Sites are down a few times a month.
I have to move.
