Hookie Alpha install revisited...

ZopfWare posted 23rd of June 2009 in Community Voice. 16 comments.

I now see what all the fuss was when I posted earlier about a flawless install.  When I did my initial installation I did not use the current trac.  I used the prepacked file link that was provided in the original post.  I believe that it was 10908... THIS package from developers installed without a hitch and did not have any "missing" directories....

HOWEVER,  I recently tried to install the latest trunk from the trac (11000) and have found it to be full of the problems that other had mentioned in their comments.

If you would like an easy install then grab the already zipped snapshot that is provided in the original hookie allpha download announcement.

I can understand the missing directories. What I do not understand, are all the directory permissions being reported as non-executable, when those directories are already set at 755. Changing the directory permissions to 777, makes the 'non-executable' warning go away, but the directories are being reported as 'non-executable'... NOT 'unwritable'. This doesn't make sense. Something is amiss.

You are not use to loading Open Source but rather/mostly load 'commercial' scripts.?! Commercial deals w/licensing and 'BigBrother' issues far differntly the Open Source does. It is Why you see little 755 to 777 in commercial but all the time in OpenSource :)
Commercial doesn't release all the scripts. They usually hold 3 master scripts which are forced to load the site. If you have 'BigMoney' you can have them create 'source licensing' which basically they will write some 'Youmaster' scripts which see more they also monitor ;)

I have absolutely no idea what you are trying to say.

VictorT release Alpha10890 for review. This WAS NOT Beta but Alpha. Even the Alpha10890 was missing a few directories, but again this was Alpha not Beta. On top of that, if you follow TRAC correctly you can have the latest Updates even to 11000 BUT they are NOT LICENSED yet NOR will they be til MAYBE BETA, MAYBE!

I currently: Follow TRAC daily, update my OOkie_RIA build and then reload it, EVERY day. The install is Flawless in ALL Browsers. The MODULES and FLASHApps are NOT Licensed but that is see more OKAY as I enjoy seeing the progress on the CODE. I can wait a few days to turn them all on again. :)

Lastly, the 10890 build is nowwhere like the Alpha Build I did last night, as many things have been reworked and reintroduced into the proper areas: Progress from 10890 -> 11000.

Houston are you using Windows or UNIX? Seems like Windows.?! Windows handles file permissions totally different then UNIX, but BoonEx writes for UNIX first Windows second :)

So. I still have no idea why directory permissions are incorrectly reported.

Operator error my ass. Directory permissions are set to 755, yet they are reported as non-executable.

First of all, let's read
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_system_permissions
to get more information about permissions.

Yes, We acknowledge there are some omissions in the installer text but I will rewrite all these.

Generally, we are waiting for the read+write access for several folders to keep files in it,
for ffmpeg.exe we need to have executable permissions only (not read-write)
And for several files we need read-write as well.

Thanks, but I have all the information I need about permissions in my head. I'm just saying that the D7 installer incorrectly reports some directory permissions, that makes installing a pain in the ass.

Try to update install\index.php
+
inc\classes\BxDolAdminTools.php
from SVN. It was updated.
ZopfWare
Based on what AndreyP said I am going to try and update my hookie Alpha with the latest SVN and will report more here tomorrow...
