Hookie Alpha Install v7.0

ZopfWare posted 19th of June 2009 in Community Voice. 15 comments.

Installation went ABSOLUTELY without a hitch.  Admin interface is nice... have set up a comments forum on our hookie site. Please feel free to register and play with it! We would like to review how it operates with a few members on it.

Check your install again.

get_magic_quotes_gpc is Off, enable it
Please go to the
Dolphin Troubleshooter
and solve the problem.

yeah made a few changes regarding magic quotes... all is fine now.. except I had to change the "check code" for the nickname on the join page.. it wasn't working and kept telling me that I was using invalid chars. I took the code from the 6.1.4 nickname field and inserted it and now members can join.

Is the download available?

Only alpha for admin preview. Beta is not out yet.

Without a hitch? What about all the missing directories in the distribution package that hinder installation? What about all the directory permissions that are being incorectly reported during installation?
ZopfWare
I dropped the tar (zip) file on the server...unzipped it..when to the url for my hookie install...it told me about permission issues (not writeable etc..) and then I chmod'd the files to 755 and then the install went fine...

Yes there are missing directories (and files) but the Alpha was for testing the ADMIN interface.... and yes there are some bugs there as well but nothing that prevented the site from coming right up after what was the easiest install of a Dolphin distro I have eveer done.
Is there not an Ads section for this ..

And its a fact that this alpha is missing parts, it takes quite abit of time to install as many fixes has to be done. Don't mislead and then put your ads in at the end.

Hmmm... could be an Ad.... but have you ever tried to post an ad here on boonex if you are a hosting provider?

Been wating 6 months for an approval on an ad.... :-)

Dude, 30 minutes to install Dolphin, or any web application for that matter? Sounds more like installing Windows to me!
ZopfWare
Yeah, Windows is more like an hour depending on the machine...lol However the 30 minutes is from the time the order for a hosting package is received until the software has been installed and the hosting account provisioned. That's more reasonable than alot of hosting companies that could take up to several hours to get your site online.

WOT Warns that the site who's link is given in this post has a poor reputation and recommends to avoid it.

I also think that this is advertising. I don't believe I would be allowed to put a sales pitch in my posts. I don't really see more understand why this person is allowed to do that.

Thumbs down all the way

Firstly, If you have a PROPERLY supplied server environment from YOUR provider, a Dolphin install can be done in 30 minutes... now on to this WOT stuff, As you can see it apparently is somehow USER rated, (and I think I only see one comment, repeat one comment) Additionally, any site other than a few of the larger more trusted sites (Google, Yahoo, or MSN) are NOT going to install THEIR software on my machine(s) so that they can gather statistical information regarding MY browsing habits. You would see more be far better of using your head regarding "Safe" browsing. Any site that says I have to download some piece of software to use their site, is a site I, imho, would suggest avoiding.

And lastly, the intent of this Blog post was to let people know that there are providers out there that DID NOT HAVE ANY TROUBLE installing the D7 Alpha.

Just as an addendum to an earlier comment, about 2 minutes of research found this link:

Just figured I'd put an end to all this .... pick on the people that are obviously advertising on this site... not to mention all the people that are scamming people through expertzzz. And further, I stand by my commitment, that the hosting company I work for (despite not "kicking back" to Boonex a sufficient amount to be listed as a preferred Hosting company) that your D7 install will be FULLY supported and that you will be provided with RMS as well (in 30 minutes!).

I'm just sick see more of all the trickery going on as to hosting providers. It is not some "state secret" to set up your own dedicated server to support D7, However there ARE "other" providers that will give you pre-configured dedicated servers or the same in a shared hosting environment.
