Help with installation of Dolphin 6.1

CampethoMedia posted 9th of June 2008 in Community Voice. 12 comments.

I will install Dolphin software to 6.1 and I need some information to be sure -

The software is uploaded to
http://www.myserver.com/home/user/public_html/

I need to set URL for Dolphin folder -

Do I need to set -
http://www.myserver.com/home/user/public_html/   or
is it http://www.myserver.com/public_html/ ?

Directory root: This should be the server absolute path to the Dolphin software.

Do I need to set -
http://www.mysever.com/home/user/public_html/   or

something else?

Path to php binary:
Here you should indicate the absolute path to php executable file on your server
do we need to set -

http://www.myserver.com/user/local/bin/php or

only  user/local/bin/php?

The detailed installation for Dolphin 6.1 tells -

'''SQL file''': this is the relative path to the database creation file, which is determined by default. If your file resides in a different directory, you should indicate its relative path here. The base folder of the path is considered to be the Dolphin installation folder.

I made a typically installation of a new database and I guess that the relative path for the SQLfile is – http://www.myserver.com/home/user/public_html.

'''NOTE: Do not forget to install [http://www.boonex.net/ray/wiki/RayServerInstall Ray Media Server (RMS)] if you're installing an Ad-Free package.

How is this media server installed? Will it be downloaded first to my computer and the uploaded to any special folder on the server?

Finally the detailed install doc tells to (Step 4) - run the install script -
Using your favorite web browser, navigate to install/index.php- I might be a novice, can the index.php be opened with the ftp program or how to navigate with the browser to that file and execute it with within the browser?

Hi,
You will get better response to your questions by posting on the forum - http://www.boonex.com/unity/forums/#group/Dolphin.htm

For now what you need to do is -
1. Find out from your hosts how to log in to your webspace with an FTP program. They will also tell you where your root is.
You root is the place that a browser goes when you type in a domain name such as www.yourdomain.com
The root is normally the folder called public_html/
You navigate to that folder with your ftp program.
2. see more Now you are in the root (public_html) you use the ftp program to upload all the dolphin files to this place.
3. When you do that you need to start the install. First lets assume that your domain name is www.yourdomain.com
All you have to do to start the domain is type in to a browser www.yourdomain.com/install/index.php and the program will start the install process.

If you have any more questions go to the forum I mentioned above. There is lots of useful posts there already and some very helpful people.

Cheers

and what if there is no installer?!
CampethoMedia
So simple Max!

I have uploaded the files for Dolphin 6.1 with the ftp to myserver.com

But how is the Ray media server installed. The link in the detailed install doc refers to a website - but that site does not display.

If you use shared hosting you can't install Ray media server, you need root acess to do that and vps or dedicated hosting.

Have you installed Dolphin 6.1 + Free Ray 3.5 + Orca 2.0 then you can use free rms from boonex.
If you have installed Dolphin 6.1 + Ad-Free Ray 3.5 + Orca 2.0 then you have to use rms from someone else.

Run the install script - Using your favorite web browser, navigate to install/index.php - go to url bellow to do that:
http://yourdomain/install/index.php

I have uploaded Dolphin 6.1 files to the sever and I will go further to upload the Ray media server.

When I checked the files on the server (Dolphin 6.1 upload) I can find a file ffmpeg.exe located in public_html/ray/modules/global/app/ffmpeg.exe.

The file ffmpeg.exe also exist under RMS_3.5.1. I get confused about this double presence. Ray Server install doc tells that the files shall be uploaded to a specified folder.

Yes, just because ffmpeg in RMS need for working with Recorder video, etc.
ffmpeg in dolphin need for videoconversions after uploading etc ..

Question. I currently have a social dating site that is using the 5.6 version. How hard would it be to upgrade the site using the 6.1 version. We have about 1,000 members in the database at present.
