Help comparing BoonEx vs. Drupal Social Community

I dont know too much about Drupal either but wouldnt mine getting some opinion about it...

when i first did the research for social community software i was looking into that to but really never lookded at Drupal...so i wouldnt mine hearing some of your opinions about drupal.

I too don't know much about drupal. But Now I have a good experience in dolphin. Up to my knowledge dolphin is good.

Regarding the support you can contact me at any time. Also there are many to answer you in forums.

most of the people that bitch about Dolphin, think they can be a webmaster because they know how to upload a background to their myspace profile.

some of the questions in here are really laughable.

how do i get to the admin panel?
what does chmod mean?
how can i set the cronjob in the database?
where do i see my dolphin site?


not to mention questions about your shared host that are things boonex know nothing about.
why cant i upload a .htaccess file?

boonex falls on it ass because see more of a lack of documentation, Dolphin falls on ita ass because of a lack of admin/moderator controls

I looked at Drupal along with most of the other popular CMS packages. I've been in the computer business since the mid 1970s. I went ahead and bought the BoonEx suite. The reason… the learning curve on site development is much shorter than any of the rest by a huge factor.

Sammie is almost 100% correct. There is a monster lack of documentation but that is to be expected at this stage in the BoonEx development path. There are numerous sites that have been put up by users that help fill this gap. see more But even with those sites you have to dig around and in some cases if you are a new to being a webmaster or server side control they lack understandable explanations.

The BoonEx offering has so many features and everything gets intertwined with Ray, the Ray Media Server, Orca and all the rest. So even though I run a couple of hosting servers, for my own stuff, I had BoonEx install everything. It was quick and easy with no hitches but I knew what they needed to know. If you are new to this area dig in, ask the questions from your hosting company, get the answers and Boonex will get your site installed correctly.

I’ve been digging through all of it for a couple of weeks now customizing and it is a lot of work with a lot to learn. In another couple of weeks it will be ready for human consumption… but that’s another story.

If you are looking for the easiest non computer pro package that you can get running, with some customization, in a few days or less BoonEx has it.

I have had no bad experience with BoonEx support or their applications. Maybe it is because I don’t expect a lot from any developer support. Does it take a while to get answers from them… sure. Their small team is dealing with lots of issues and questions from all sorts of users with the whole gamut of experience. So be a little calm they are doing the best they can at this stage. They have always gotten back to me in 48 hours or less. Look for the answers yourself, Look in the forums and blogs.

As for Sammie’s comments… She is a very active and valuable member of the community. Her opinion and experience stand out in the forums and posts. So if you didn’t get it she is telling you to learn, at least some of the basics, and not expect even this package to do it all for you.

Thanks Sammie and Trey for your quick response. I'd be interested if anyone else would like to weigh in. So far, it looks like 1 for Drupal and 1 for BoonEx.

drupal,joomla,php, wordpress, userplane and all other famous software are class A products.

Well, I think you can not compare them. both are good systems. Drupal is very strong in blogs and news and Boonex has so many media features (photo, video, music, chat, boards, etc). So it depends what kind of site you want to develop

Well I would say DOLPHIN cause you will never get the support like what I've gotten from VICTOR / ANDREY they are great along with others who work for BOONEX and thats why I have no reason to sugest another COMMUNITY SITE, PICK BOONEX you wont be disapointed ... trust me there really great people and yes there willing to help you for free if you give them time ...

Honestly, if you are considering drupal and dolphin, you might want to check out joomla as well. I like joomla a little more than drupal. I do run a couple drupal site's as well. One is

Yes I use the joomla for the quick website like news etc.. I work both and joomla and dolphine. When I see if the create do something best module to the joomla I try to decoding and this useful module change into dolphine. I use the dolphin becouse this is the best time for the WEB 2.0 and big market place bussiness :)

I was initially building my social project via drupal and got very far before i switched to Dolphin. Dolphin is a good but not great package in that it lacks a ton of documentation, the admin interface lacks any admin features and everyone is more focused on making money of mods that actually writing good mods. That is where Drupal beats Dolphin hands down. You can get anything you want, anytime, anywhere. But Drupal as a social platform is not yet fully mature unless you are going the long mile see more (google: popsugar). The first thing Dolphin needs is a solid community providing a ton of apps. Free ones. With limited features. Then premium for a price. And that isn't there.

Support as a premium? A lot of people will argue and say but we have our community, but then look at the Drupal Community and look at what they do, and look at Dolphin and see what they do. I have no problem paying for apps, but first things first. Rudimentary first, then worry about extras later.

I want to develop a networking and collaboration site with minimal initial cash outlay and minimal technical skills. Dolphin looks easier than Drupal, but I've had developers tell me that it's harder to modify. I particularly want to modify the invitation process, and I want the look customized. What would you recommend?
