Flash 10 and Firefox 3.0.x

Just wanted to share some things I found out last night.  I have been plagued by the same problems alot of have had... that the RAY widgets (some of them like IM and Web Presence) don't work in Firefox with The new Flash 10.

After doing some research I started my FireFox in safe mode (firefox -safe-mode)

and I had it reset all toolbars back to default settings and then had it disable all of my add-ons.  Then I restarted.  Lo and behold, all the RAY flash wideget were working!  So I started turning on my add-ons, one-by-one, and it all worked fine until I enabled the Google Toolbar.  I'm pretty sure that most of us have had a Google Toolbar in Firefox since we first installed it.

This has worked on all my machines - Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows XP, and SUSE 11.0 Linux.

Someone give my  suggestion a try and let me know if it helps.

wow.. so google toolbar is doing that? I wondered why mine did not work. For me it is IM, and presence. Chat works. That's too bad.. i love my little google toolbar. :(

man, people are giving it negative vibes with the thumbs.. if they have a solution, why don't they post it? Some people are just into the hatin'.

If you find a solution for this Zop, let me know..

OK, I had the same problem, I now have it all working with Firefox 3.0X and flash 10, and google toolbar, there were a couple of DLL files missing in the mozilla/firefox/plugins folder you can download and install them and all works fine. I cant remember the filenames but will look them up and come back.

I have found the 2 dll files that were missing in my version of Firefox, you will need to put them in program file/Mozilla Firefox/plugins and you can download them here: http://www.whiteyonder.com/share/download.php?file=685313 it worked for me but I have version 3.0.6 of Firefox

I will check this out on my windows machine(s) but it is odd that this problem was still evident in Linux w/ FF3.0.6.

I still think that there is an issue with the Google toolbar....

Thanks for the info... I'll keep everyone posted.

tried the dll files still no joy, removed the google toolbar and BINGO everything worked great at last, ty for this.

All I can say is that I have used FF and flash player 10 all along and have never had any problems at all. I never had the Google toolbar installed, because I can't stand the thing. I especially hate the countless programs and upgrades that automatically assume you want the damn Google fckn toolbar installed.

Well, like i said in my research.... I think it is the Google Toolbar that is causing the problem... and based on the comment from Sammie, it looks like I was right that most of the people having trouble with Flash 10 and FF3 are also running the Toolbar.

Thanks for your backhanded confirmation that sans GoogleToolbar, everything works fine.

How do you disable the Google search bar?

tango 3d "tools - addons- uninstall or disable"

that's what I thought, but I do not have that option. Hence the "How do you disable the Google search bar?"

Hi Stuart,

We are referring to the ADD-ON google toolbar. All versions of FF have a Google (default) search box to the left of the address bar. (You can actually set it to be a search box for a number of different search engines by clicking on the down diamond next to the search logo)

If you are runng FF3 under Linux you will find on your tools menu where it says add-ons.
when u click on it it should open a seperate window with several choices. You want to click on the icon that says "Extensions."
This see more will list the extensions (add-ons) you have installed. Scroll down the list and look for Google Toolbar. When you find it click on it and then click on the "Disable" button.
You will be required to restart FF after you disable the extension.

If you are not showing the google toolbar installed the you are experiencing some other issue than the one discussed here.

Also, try starting your firefox in safe-mode
"firefox -safe-mode" Then try resetting things to the default and disable all add-ons/Extensions.

Once you have determined that this works then use tool->addon to re-enable your extensions 1 by 1.

I'm not sure what's really going on, but I noticed that I also have trouble using the web presence module and IM using FF3.0.6 and Flash 10 under Vista when I have AdBlock Plus enabled. This is true even if I tell it to turn itself off for the site. Seems the only consistent thing is it works if I don't have those 2 add-ons installed. (Google ToolBar and AdBlock Plus)

Will be performing some other research on this issue as time allows.

Anyone know if this is an admin prob or all users? do we need to let our users know?
sammie
it will be an all user issue if any of the users have the google toolbar installed
