Dolphin Updates and freely available code

In reading another post where HL mentioned a few items that are sorely needed in Dolphin as part of the basic package, and with numerous replies about code that would do what needs to be done, I think it would be a good idea to have an area where a lot of great coders here could freely donate some of their code snippets for inclusion in future releases.  Of course it would be up to Boonex to decide whether they would use them and how, but if something is freely available to help move Dolphin along in the direction we all want to see it go, and the authors of code snippets are willing to freely contribute them in the hopes of it being useful, it would really move the community forward.

This would do two things:  Make Dolphin a real Community Supported program while relieving some of the headaches of coding from the developers so they could spend more time on tweaking and bug-hunting,  and generate some extra goodwill from the community.

I'm not even certain if this isn't already going on now, but having an area where members of the community could submit their code for inclusion might generate some additional interest for others who might have been on the fence about submitting an idea or some code they've successfully implemented in their own projects.

Wouldn't it be kinda nice to know that even a small part of some code you submitted helped make Dolphin a better product?

One of mine was submitted. In trak for 7.1.

But i don't think it will be included.

Let's start with the developers beginning to take an active interest in what the users are suggesting. If we don't have that in place, any amount of freely available code will only pave way for frustrations.

I would hope they are incorporating the code people have been posting - some of them are fixes to basic functions that need to be in the product. I got a new one ripped for mentioning on the bug board that Deno's PHP block should be added to the product and that leaving it out could almost constitute a bug - but "sins of omission" are seldom considered here. A smaller example is when I tried to use the mass mailer and found that it wouldn't send to people who had unlisted birthdays see more - an option on my site- Okweb did a full fix on this with a link to the new function file. If Boonex has not been following the forums and adding these fixes, then we all have a big just each update patching our systems with things that could just have been included in the product.

Hope is grand, but there's also that old proverb, "If you assume, you make an ass out of you and me."

It'd be nice if someone from the dev department were a bit more active in responding to issues that users bring up. I understand the "we're busy coding" point, but that business with coding could be a lot more fast and smooth if they spent a bit more time interacting with users who try to modify and fix the software.

I'm not a big fan of the idea of spending my time tapping see more in useful code only to have it buried in some forum abyss of oblivion. Since we are now the All Stars of Boonex, perhaps someone could acknowledge that in some active, practical and ongoing manner.

Does the new code sharing forum not go some way towards meeting this? - It seems like a place where common code fixes can easily be shared with Boonex as well as other users - Boonex just need to check it. ;)

As a question...

Is there a pathway to becoming a developer for Dolphin? on many other open source platforms softies can lodge to become part of the team.

@DeeEmm

If you prove that you write can quality code you can be provided with read/write access to SVN. It can be achieved by writing quality mods and providing quality code fixes/addons in the forum.
