This is really shocking!

I mean what else does BoonEx have up its sleves to make a mere $40 for an apparent Free product.

.. mabey you should NOT label your product Free, if indeed you need to pay to unlock standard features.
Nucca,

You should sit back and rethink what you are saying.

And what and who said were standard features ?

Again I have to say this so many times, Boonex .. Boonex the group of people that put hours and hours and hours of work into this project have families too, they have rent to pay, food to put on the table.

Why is it that everyone thinks this stuff gets done for FREE, and that its there job to make sure everyone gets it for nothing ??

So I have to ask, since its in the like of see more the whole thread..

Do you even know what Base64 is, (and yes before you google it) ??

I see nothing wrong with it *if* you're honest and you've paid for a license.

This will weed out the crooks and will give Boonex some more money in their pockets. This stuff isn't free people. You gotta be kidding me if you're going to complain about Boonex protecting their intellectual property. The company has bills to pay and so do the people who work there.

Interex, what I do find interesting is that you decided to decode something that was not meant to be casually viwed. It tells me something see more about your character. My questions is,what exactly is your point?

nucca, if you have even an iota of knowledge of how much time and expertise it takes to make an app like Boonex, you will appreciate that this could easily cost you a lot more money to try to even remotely emulate.

I see people complain that it is not FREE as if to expect that it is with privilege that apps like these are to be theirs.

Ha! Can't afford the $40? Then get off the frikkin' Internets. Go do something else.

Noobs.
No, I am not complaining about the cost, or value as one of my dolphin sites is licensed and i support Boonex fully. I wasnt doing anything illegal. And I only decoded it to see what it was. I found it to be 'different' that Boonex would add in some base64 into the script. I was only mearly looking at the differences in the two design.inc files and saw an entire string of the encoding. As you can tell by my message I never complained, or accused anyone of anything wrong, nor did i complain see more about anything "FREE" or not "FREE" Aparently you need to learn more about how to read people before you comment. I also stated I feel it was only fair to let everyone know what I found, and what it does. No big deal and nothing harmful was done.

"...i support Boonex fully."
Oh really? And this is how you show your support?

Here's what you said Interex,"I found it very fishy that boonex was hiding code inside the script."

Let me educate you a bit. Using words like "secret", "hiding" and "fish" are normally not associated with the word "trust". And I doubt most companies would want their actions to be associated with those mentioned words that you used to describe this discovery see more in the Boonex file(s).

To start, you used the word secret in the title post. In most settings, secrecy is a key attention getter. And the word secrecy is not typically associated with "trust". It usually mean, like you mentioned "hiding" something.

Again, when you say, "I found it very fishy that boonex was hiding code inside the script."

In *my* world when I read a statement like that it says to *me* "Boonex is trying to pull a fast one!" It is a negativo and not a positive statement.

To illustrate, let's use your avatar name with the same statement,

"I found it very fishy that INTEREX was hiding code inside the script."

See what I mean? It doesn't sound too positive does it? Makes you look like a dork don't it? Not sure what world you live in, but to me, that is negative.

And it seems I am not alone. It seems nucca referenced your post when he said, "This is really shocking!"
Again, I have to iterate, "shocking" is not a positive word to be associated with a company like Boonex. Nucca then continues to pummel the non-FREEness of the script. The fact is, IT IS FREE - you just need to make sure you keep the links. Some people ofcourse want it all and that really is very lame. If you want the links out, pay the $40 bucks. Simple but not easy to understand for some people.

Interex, when you said, "No big deal and nothing harmful was done."
Ahem, well yes it is a big deal. You've basically diluted the purpose of the encoding by letting the cat out of the bag. You've given information to the crooks on where to find the intellectual property statement thereby tipping them off. You then gave them the file name and the encoding structure. If I were Boonex I would be pissed at you. (Actually, I can't believe I have to explain this one to you.)

Good work hero. Thanks for supporting Boonex. Not.
thewebdesigner
Interex, don't wear out your refresh button. I will reply in a bit. I have to get some lunch.

You better sit down tho.
Interex,

I dont like jumping in the middle of things, but I do think this was a bit uncalled for.

With all the people out stealing mods, and such, posting a message like this will make people think the worst and with out understand it, they will react.

Boonex states very simply

"License.

Creative Commons License Dolphin is licensed under the terms of Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported License. This means that you are free to use it the way you need, adapt it, change code, see more distribute, share with friends or even sell it. You must, however attribute the work as specified by BoonEx. And the specification is dead simple - don't remove links to BoonEx and the Dolphin Page in the footer of all Dolphin pages, unless you paid for it.

License references in the source code headers may not be removed under any conditions. "

Now, I know you did not intend too, but your post implies that Boonex is doing something wrong or sneaky, by all means THEY ARE NOT.

Look how many post on here asking "how to remove the privacy, and copyright, etc."

I did read your response to thewebdesigner and understand what you are saying as well, but look at all the post on here, and then ask yourself "what good would come out of this post??"

Those of us that know encoded or hash code is, know why its there, so now there are going to be a million noobs out trying to strip coding out, and the next questions will be "how do I decode this" etc

CyberXing
Infact it is sneaky...

Hiding it in the code like that would make a lot of people who saw it wonder "WTF"... I've managed linux boxes for a long time and have come across bots, backdoors, and "script kiddie tools" that have been encoded before and was mearly interested in finding out what it was.

The fact that Boonex has mentioned in their AUP what the rules are should be good enough. They should have a better way to manage it than to put it in the design script the see more way they did.

I also did not intend to base the term "fishy" on what the code does but mearly on the fact the encoded string was there the way it was.

And the fact that the code was hidden in the design script makes it "secret" or it wouldnt be the way it is.

I also mentioned this to let other people know exactly what this string is for before someone else saw it and thought the same thing I did.

__IF__ Boonex has an issue with this post they are free and clear to remove it. I also violated NO RULES or TERMS by making this post and I did not endanger anything by posting this. My goal is not to hurt boonex, or try to expose Boonex for anything illegal.

And, thewebdesigner... Why do you feel so threatend? The post wasnt about you, it was about something Boonex did. Dont rant on me about my posts for doing nothing more than explain my THOUGHT about the above topic. I've been coding, admining, and supporting boxes, sites, servers for quite a while and being in the position I've been in "like these" I felt I was doing good in a way to enlighten others to this "SECRET" "HIDDEN" script.
Oh and before you question my support for Boonex... I've supported Boonex, and I still do and will. My post, comments, and statements do not change that, nor my feelings about Boonex or its coders. I know they need money for their products and I've done my part. But remember I'm only explaining the actions of boonex, and what I found not to hurt them but to help people understand what I found. I might not have done it the right way... and if so I'm sorry for that but I do think people have see more the right to know what is being ran on their servers.

Close the thread to end the debate.
nuccca
Well CyberSing you know what I mean, I still support Interex's original position of letting others know what is included and what will be run on their servers. He didnt violate anything, and Im sure Andrey would let us know eventually.

Why I was concerned is that they don't distinguish their products enough, and that eventually leads to confusion for a newer BoonExer.

Alls good in the hood, better to know now, someone would be eventually finding this out the hard way.
