This isn't a new idea or one that I thought of, rather it's an idea that comes from utilizing other sites for support when it comes to the phpBB3 and would be great to see implemented on the Unity Forums to speed up the rate at which help can be given.
A lot of the time when a user asks a question on the Unity Forums, we're forced to ask them questions before we can answer, especially in regards to new installs/ray/orca questions. There are simply to many variables that we have to find out what's in the background before we can help them out, and if we assume we all to often lead them in the wrong direction.
Would it be unreasonable to make it a requirement that individuals seeking help make answering the following questions a standard part of the Unity Forums, in an effort to standardize how the questions are asked and give those who are helping the most information. This would also be great for others who have similiar issues to see if the question will apply to them or not. A solution given for a Linux server will usually not work on a Windows Server as an example:
Here is how we could do this:
These 7 little questions would work a world of difference when it comes to helping individuals out when it comes the questions they ask and also make things much more searchable on the Forums in the long run.
Just a suggestion of something used on the phpBB3 forums that really does make things easier and simpler for everyone.
"I have a problem" or
"I am new can you help me"
start your post with the subject so you don't have to read the whole post before knowing what the problem is
phpBB and vbulletin are not supported by Boonex - go visit phpBB or vBulletin for support. If you have bought a mod to install these instead of orca - go see the author.
IMO The biggest improvement that can happen to support is see more
phpBB3 requires specific mbstring settings which must be altered in order for it to successfully run, thus it can have an effect on Orca if someone was also utilizing Orca for their Groups.
In addition, if someone has integrated something like phpBB3 or vBulleting, then we do need to know as it makes several changes to Dolphin and those of us who have done it can guide them. If you think someone is going to get ANY support for a Dolphin see more
Orca just doesn't cut it. You need to be able to create several layers of sub forums to better categorize support issues.
I could never get my head around why Dolphin is sticking with this Orca, no offence, but it is rubbish,by far the weakest link in the whole thing, when the forum part is probably one of the most important features for any community.
