Adding more Admins in Dolphin or changing admin password

So many people at Unity keep asking about adding more Administrators to their Dolphin powered sites so as to divide the work load, or due to some other reason. So i decided to write this small tutorial which will guide people about adding more Admins to their dolphin powered site by editting their site database. -------- Step 1 -------- As most of you would be knowing that Dolphin uses MD5 encryption for storing passwords in site database, we first need to convert the password, which we want to use for the new administrator, into MD5. We can do this with two methods. One is to get the desired password encrypted at sites like www.md5encryption.com . If you use this method, paste the md5 encrypted password which you will get some where, say notepad, and simply SKIP to step 4. Else continue. -------- Step 2 -------- The other method is to first create a profile in your site with the same password which you want to use for the new administrator account. ---------- Step 3 ---------- After you've created a new profile, open your dolphin site database using phpmyAdmin or similar program. Browse through the table 'Profiles' and search for the user profile which you created just now. You can find it easily with the profile id. Open that profile table and copy the value of the password which would be by default encrypted in Md5. Paste it some where, say notepad, to use it later. -------- Step 4 -------- Open your site database using phpmyAdmin or similar program. Browse through the table 'Admins'. Using insert option, add a new Administrator with the desired username and md5 encrypted password which you earlier pasted into notepad. Your new site administrator account is now ready for use. --------- Second method of md5 password conversion can also be used in case you forget your Admin password. In that case, you would need to browse through your existing site Admin table in the database and replace the older md5 value of password with newer one. ---------- Please do post your Comments.

At last. Finally someone who has enabled me to do this: it has been bugging me for five days. You're brilliant. :)

Thank you.

Same as the wordpress procedure. I believe there is an option in SQL to convert any value entered in a cell to MD5 automatically, which would negate the first three steps.

Again thank you.

how do you do ir in version 7?
Strumm...

I did this in Dolphin 7 - I'm by no means sure if this is the correct way to achieve this, but it certainly worked for me.

1. I created a new user. (I just used the Join form).
2. I used phpMyAdmin to access the database.
3. I went to "Profiles".
4. Clicked on Edit for the profile I wanted to promote to Admin.
5. I changed the "Role" number to 3. (This was the same number that the default Admin had - the new user I'd created was 1).
6. Saved my changes.

When see more I logged on as that user, they had the "Go into Admin panel" link available to them and could access all the admin functions.
Hope this helps.

yes, this is how it has been structured in dolphin 7
this does not explain to me how though will this allow me in the future to add admins with out having to do this all the time?

hello please help me,

i went to phpadmin, and unable to find admin table, please help me

since there is no more admin table in D7, here is what I had to do:
1- make a new profile type called "admin" and allow ALL actions
2- make a new user, regular sign up
3- set that user to the "admin" membership
4- turn off admin memberships
5- go to database and change their ROLE field in the PROFILES TABLE to =3
6- copy and paste the same SALT field
7- delete the cache files, MANUALLY
done...
to Boonex: can we please have a button for this in the admin dashboard?
Why not cant the Admin a new Adminaccount create in his Adminmenu? It was really comfortaby. :)

Below is the legacy version of the Boonex site, maintained for Dolphin.Pro 7.x support.
The new Dolphin solution is powered by UNA Community Management System.
