for trial versions, once it is "x'ed" out, a cookie if given and it will show no more, now looking at your sounds and video players, no more Boonex logos there either, I don't see one problem with this.

oh just the way it was worded sounded like all sites would see it now.
ohhh seriously? for non licensed versions?
yes,

I think module to upload multiple photos regular option
No, I just tried to change the timeline photos uploader from single to flash and it worked. All photos uploaded to the timeline. BUT when going to index, site threw a database error.
I merged some code from the photo uploader module to the timeline and it did work, but I'm not that good with code so I reverted.

I am not thinking one way here, i don't know why boonex is doing this. I mean anybody can generate a cookie and that will keep the thingy always hidden.
I don't get it either. So easy to hide, I just tried it out of interest, 23 seconds including the FTP transfer. I'm not going to say how on here (and I certainly wouldn't do it for real) but it wouldn't take a rocket scientist.

I can't... lol
I have no idea how to "create" a cookie. After you guys bash and scold they perhaps will remove this quickly.
I mean looking at my sites, yes, the test site looks "registered" which is curious to me as well why.
Also, I may be mistaken on the "cookie." I know now each site test site of mine I visit the "footer" is no more.

Much better than the old footer less intrusive no need to edit any css with no chance of getting site not avaliable for the more inquisitive.. And I am sure the boonies have more than a few traps waiting for those who do not want to give them credit ...
You can make it disappear from the screen but the cost will be in some loss of functionality :O)
And to everyone who thought the team at boonex weren't listening about the intrusive branding think again as it appears they have turned there hearing aid up .....
Dolphin is now worthy of the intelligent warm blooded mammal Tag Congratulations ...

You don't even need to generate a cookie. One line of css, and it's gone. Doesn't make a lot of sense for Boonex to do this.... there will be no incentive for anyone to buy a license.
My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees.
We do not want to obscure this reference anymore. It is our belief that people who want to remove it without getting a license would do it anyway. If we ever stumble upon such violation - we'd try to get their arses whooped. We don't think that honest web-masters would be tempted to apply hiding tricks. Those who want to do the right way - will pay; those who want cheap hacks - will learn the hard way.
Now, the new "banner" is arguably more visible for new visitors, but less obtrusive in long-term. It is also just a JS, not a direct link, so site don't pass page rank, don't bleed link weight and don't connect to link-rings, or any such SE-oh nonsense. Thus, by displaying this banner, you're "giving back" to the Boonex team for Dolphin development. We do want some of your site visitors to check us out.
This particular implementation seems to be the best way to put up a visible, but not to "in the face" banner that doesn't mess with any of the page content.
And finally, we hope that most intelligent people realise that it makes no sense to invest money, time and effort into building, hosting, marketing and administrating a community site, while using a "pirated" version with references stripped off illegitimately. WE KNOW WHICH DOMAINS ARE REGISTERED.

I personally love it!!
I don't mind it at all, it even looks better and now can be seen by those that wonder how I made my sites.
Most people I work with really never noticed the banner at the bottom, because it was so far down and not noticeable.
I don't mind promoting Dolphin, it keeps me working and food on the table for me...lol well that might be exaggerating but it keeps my pockets lined with "spending" money.
[edit] I personally would like to see this expire, and show back up...not go away forever.

lol - just the functionality of it makes me want to create another non-licensed dolphin site. As our sites are registered, can that be applied, I have no problem "giving back" to the Boonex Community. And I totally love that it is not too "in your face" - like the old banner was.
Yes, but I don't let every Tom, Dick, and Harry website set a cookie on my computer. What this does is to actually increase the Dolphin brand awareness to your visitors because it is at the top of the page covering your content; even if it is smaller, it is actually more noticeable. Plus, it is dynamic instead of static like the footer was. When something moves; as in the way the Dolphin logo slides into the widow, it guarantees that people will see it because that is the way out brain and eyes are coded; it is why those stupid television bugs are used, you will pop your eyes down to see them regardless. Clever, Boonex, clever.
Yep, it disappears for year if user clicks the little "close" icon. As geek_girl noted, it is designed to be more visible, but will go away for good if users don't want it. Should be a win-win for everyone. One can, of course, change expiration from 1 year to a less than that (thank you very much! ).
After thinking about this change I personally don't like it. I was thinking that I might use an unlicensed version of Dolphin for a project but with this change in place I am not so sure now; I even brought a module that was going to be used for the site so that will be wasted money. In fact, I can see this change pushing away anyone interested in unlicensed Dolphin; and think about this, an unlicensed user now may be a licensed user in the future. I think the real goal with this change is to try and push more into buying a license. I can understand the need to generate revenue but with the recent ~400% increase in Dolphin licensing and now this more intrusive branding, I can not but think that Boonex may have shot their own foot.
When I started my project, I did not just say, "Hey, there is Dolphin, let's use it". My team spent months on researching and installing numerous social applications, including several that were out of development. We had actually discarded Dolphin based on the fact of the branding and licensing requirements to remove that branding plus some of the "issues" that were being reported in the forums; I read through the forums before I ever joined and so does anyone else that is considering Dolphin for a project. I came back to Dolphin because the other "tech" on the project was unhappy with the database of the application; and I agreed with certain aspects of his argument.
I am aware that any argument that I or anyone else may present here falls on deaf ears. It appears that once a decision is made; just look at the very horrible "autopilot" thing to see an example, it does not matter what anyone on the forums may think or say, it will be included. This is one area that Boonex fails in, not really listening to the community on the direction that Dolphin should follow. I am helping develop a CMS that is a fork because the developers of the original felt that all decisions of how the CMS should be was their sole decision and it did not matter what any users of that CMS felt, what anyone in the community felt; it was their way or the highway.
This new Dolphin slide-in is a bad idea in my opinion. Return to the footer branding.

Come now Andrew, this is more "in the face" than the old way and it does mess with page content; the slider covers page content. How about a choice Andrew, the new slider way or the old way? Choice is good; choice is always good.
OK, you guys realize with the new HTML5 audio and video player, Andrew has removed that footer as well.
The footer from the bottom was showing in all my SEO and that is another easy way for spammers to find a Dolphin site using the term
below, now with that removed from all our pages that is a couple less targets. If you want I can post many landing searches from using the one term I have highlighted. But if you want to continue to use the old banner, put it back in your sites.

If you think about it, newton27 is right - at least it doesn't add the cookie-cutter wording to every Dolphin site, which can be used for bulk-searching. As for covering the content - it rarely does it - depending on your page width setting and looking at the browser stats hardly even 5% of you visitors would have it covering the content. And, again, they can remove it with one click now.
As for pricing - I am not sure how many licenses you've got already, GG, but if you have some, your prices would come down significantly:
Ha, my experiment involved a display: setting but much the same.
I think Andrew is spot on. I am surprised he takes the pragmatic view that he does but from our perspective as webmasters/ devs or what ever you think of yourself as, there is no downside that I can see, unless piracy gets so common that prices start going up.
Hey GG.... just add this to the right place:
left:54743040000px;
According to my calculations, that will place the banner all the way back to Kyrgyzstan. That will teach 'em a lesson.
There is no reason why we can not choose the location of the branding. We have not said we wanted to hide the branding; we just don't want that television bug on our sites. Why try to drive away users by forcing this television bug on us?
It's new thingy - we'll add a few more settings to it gradually. We don't have any intention to alienate your site visitors, but giving this too much code/time right now doesn't seem to be viable.
OK, what am I missing. Ijust downloaded and installed a brand new copy of dolphin from this website and I do not get the new banner, but instead the old one. Is there something I have to do?
