Fresh Install - can't create/edit forums

Very strange issue with latest version download

I did a new install and I cannot edit or create any forums

I'm not sure what could be the problem, any ideas?

Also another issue

I have added additional fields to profiles using the profile builder and in the join form users see this

_FieldCaption_FavoriteMusic_Join:

_FieldCaption_FavoriteFilms_Join:

etc...

any ideas? I have cleared cache several times...

On the forums; do you see any error messages or anything to help?

As for the Join form; those are the language keys and show that there are no values set for the keys.  You can try to recompile languages.  If those are system keys, they should be populated.  You can add the value to the keys by going to Settings -> Languages settings in the admin.  Enter the key in the input box and check the filter checkbox.  You can then enter values for the keys.

No error message at all.

Also, I cannot create any topics or edit existing default forum.

Very strange

For the language keys, how do I recompile this?

I tried

administration/lang_file.php

and selected english and press "compile"

but same result, those system keys are still blank

I also tried clearing all cache but same result

I have no idea what the problem is here

I guess I can try complete re-install...

I have this problem also with a fresh install (can't create forum group, clicking on the new group icon doesn't do anything...). I'm trying to figure out how much of the issue is related to improper server configuration (I'm a newbie here) - I have other errors as well. Did your re-install solve the problem?

I'm very interested in Dolphin, and might move to a Dolphin optimized web host to minimize my learning curve. I'm hopeful that will overcome all the errors, but I'm not completely sure what the problem is at this point.

I had this very problem when upgrading from 7.0.9 to 7.1.0 Then, once I upgraded from .0 to .1 my forums would be just a blank space. I have not been able to drill down and find the cause and therefore the fix but in both cases was able to get things working by uninstalling the forums module, clearing cache, reinstalling and then recompiling the language. Fortunately, I hadn't built up all of my topics between 7.1.0 and 7.1.1 so I didn't lose much.

Again, I don't know what the cause is but this is one solution should you not find any other options. If anybody has a more accurate fix I could use it too.

@RoverPilot - thanks for responding. I had already tried most of what you suggest, short of recompiling the language, and it didn't help. I don't know even what that means - recompiling the language that is Embarassed ...although nothing had been configured in this install so perhaps it's not relevant.

In any case I was just testing Dolphin on my current shared hosting, and I see the limitations so far as what I can do to configure the server. Looking to move to Zarconia to see how that goes - hoping that will resolve the many errors this installation has.

Contact author of template your have called dolphinbook. It's missing the forum layout files or it's not compatable with your version of dolphin.

Switch your site to the UNI template and check the forums again.

I started yet another fresh install, this time on my new shared hosting account with Zarconia (that was a brilliant move!). One of the first things I checked when the installation was complete, was the forum - to ensure I could create new forum groups. Strangely there was an issue initially - it may or may not have been the same problem with the earlier installation.

Thanks to Nathan from Zarconia - he quickly concluded that it was due to using a special character in the username field, and the name field as well (I usually place an apostrophe in my name - Az'ya). The field accepted it, so I figured that worked fine with the system. But according to Nathan it messes with the javascript... So apostrophes removed, and everything works perfectly.

It would be great however, if those fields didn't accept the special characters, if the system really can't handle it. Apparently this is a bug and Nathan put in a support ticket. I've had to make sure that my community members likewise don't put apostrophes in any of the name fields (many of them would if they could). It would be nice if at least the First and Last name fields accepted some special characters, but I'm more concerned that there aren't any bugs resulting.

Below is the legacy version of the Boonex site, maintained for Dolphin.Pro 7.x support.
