How to Default / Null Drop list value?

Is there any way to create a Default Non-Value or Option for drop down lists that acts as "Null"?  The problem I'm having is when I create an option called "Not Specified", the Search forms will always attempt to find the matching profiles with the actual value of "Not Specified" set, which isn't the intended result.  If I don't have something like "Not Specified", when a user saves their edited profile, it will pick the first value in the drop down, which wasn't intended.

There is currently no way to do this.  I entered a ticket for this issue, but it got shoveled onto the D7.1 'Enhancements' pile.  There are a number of critical issues involving select elements on forms.  I moved the ticket to 7.0.1 .... we'll see what happens.  Don't hold your breath.

My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees.

Alright, thanks for the reply.  I hope this issue is addressed soon, it's a pretty big miss functionality wise.

I have tried this solution and it seems to work effectively.  Select your predefined list in Admin - Settings - Predefined Values.  Add a new value at the bottom but leave it blank.  Move that value to the top of the list.  Number that 1 and renumber the rest of the list.  It's a pain in the neck for a big list.  One of mine, Profession, has 63 values.  But it seems to work.  When you go to edit your profile, the first entry will be blank, with the remaining choices in the dropdown menu.

The only drawback I have found is that if you enter a value and then later make it blank, the category will remain in your profile.  Admin can delete these entries in PhpMyAdmin - Profiles, but I don't think a member can from the front end.  Still, until the program itself is fixed, it's not that big a deal considering what it allows you to do.

Someday, Someway.

Hi,

Do you or anyone else know if this is going to be sorted anytime soon.

Really, how can you make a dating site without ''null'' dropdowns? This just isnt right.

Thanks

Chris
