Mydatery has passed. Update to your questions

mydatery posted 10th of May 2010 in Community Voice. 88 comments.

I'm taking a moment to stop in here and let the community know that John McGrew, Mydatery, passed away at 4:52 PM on Sunday, May 9th, 2010.  He had contracted Strep Troat and there were complicatons with it.  By the time he went to the doctor on Friday afternoon it was too late for them to do much else except make him comfortable.

I'm an old friend of his and I know how much he loved the Dolphin program so I'm stopping in to just let you guys know this.  He was a bit rough with people from time to time but I know he really enjoyed helping out where ever he could.  I'm not sure if anyone here had the chance to talk to him face to face or on the phone.  If you did, I'm sure you know what I mean by saying that he was the most optimistic person I knew.  He really did believe in people and their desire to do right.  He was pretty passionate about Dolphin and his work in it.

He is survived by three daughters ages, 4, 6 & 8, a brother & 2 sisters.  I will try to stop back in when I get a moment if people need any other information or updates.  All of us here, his friends and family, do know he is in a better place and at God's side.

We do have one question and that is what do we do with his account here?  He did requst that his work be continued on behalf of his daughters.

**Update:  I would like to take this time on behalf of John's family and all of his friends to thank everyone for their condolences and to maybe explain better what I meant when I said complicatons.

John didn't die directly from the Strep.  He still had his tonsils and they became very swollen, which is what finally got him to go to the doctor for help on Friday.  The doctor sent him to the Emergency Room after looking at his throat and after that there were complications.  They gave him an IV so they could put in Morephine, a steroid and a couple of other items.  It was supposed to reduce his pain and the swelling of his throat.  The drugs caused him to vomit and the vomit went into his lungs because it couldn't get out of his throat with it swollen so bad.

I really can't describe this anymore, so please forgive me.  It's a very difficult thing to talk about, as I knew him pretty much my whole life.  He was one of the greatest friends I have ever had.

To try to answer other questions, John was a good provider for his family and thought constantly about his girls.  No one needs to worry about their financial well being.  They are very well taken care of and with their mother.  It is sad that they will not grow up with him, but his brother, myself and other friends are stepping in as best as we can to help with it.

He was divorced, for about 3  years and he was dating a woman.  They aren't married, she was more or less his business partner when it came to Dolphin also.  Her name is Kathie and he called her Kat.

I pointed out to his brother about the fund that has been started and he was touched by it.  But he also pointed out that John never excepted charity in his life.  He said that he would think John would want that to go into the Dolphin program if people want to create a way to remember him.

John used his Blackberry near the end to talk when he was awake.  He gave those of us close to him passwords to things like Boonex and his servers. That's how I got in to his account.  He was a strong Anabaptist and his family is grieving for the most part privately on this, as it is a very simple and basic type of life that they live.

Over the next couple of months we have to go through all of his business workings and figure out what is what.  None of us are web site people and we need to figure out what he was up to.  Kat has mentioned things to us that she knows of and where they are at.  She admitted she doesn't know what most of it does, but she knows what a lot of it's supposed to do.

When I asked for help with it, I was asking for someone who understands all of this stuff to help us figure out what he was up to and hopefully give us a hand in finishing his work.  Please understand, it will be a little time until we can do that as we have to set up things in his will that he wanted.   JTadeo said it best below when he described how John came to Dolphin at first and how he learned.  Everything was a huge passion to John, he poured his heart into learning and trying to make the world a little better.  Yes, he was rough with people, in all parts of his life.  But please know, he was also a very compassionate man.

If John had any open contracts, can you please give us a little time to take care of what we need to and then get in touch with us here privately.  We would like to take care of any business that's unfinished however we can to protect his name.

Again, thank you to everyone.  Your prayers, condolences and offerings of help are very much appreciated.  His family would appreciate a chance to grieve and take care of everything the right way.

My condolences on the occasion; sorry to hear about this, especially for the children.

With regards to continuing with his Dolphin work, whenever things have smoothed out enough for someone to give it due attention, it may be a good idea to map out everything he has been working on, and take it from there. If such a list were shared here with the community, I'm sure you'd get a good deal of feedback and suggestions on the possibilities ahead.

Reading this brought several thoughts into my head. The first was utter shock. The others was a little skepticism. The loss of a friend can be a painful one. I have dealt with Mydatery here at Unity for quite some time. So, I decided to see what I could do to help but unfortunately ran into problem that maybe you can help me out with...

- I cannot locate an obituary in the US or Canada reflecting the passing of a John McGrew on or even around that date anywhere.
- Knowing that he has left behind see more a family (although no mention of a wife, I thought he was married), Is there something we can do for the them? There are no service announcements to be found or ways to donate.
- Just wondering, I have not found any known cases of anyone passing due to Step Throat. Did he suffer from something else as well?
- Please keep us updated.

But as much as it kills me to even think of this...disregarding the fact that you have the credentials to login as Mydatery here at Unity, if this turns out to be some type of sick twisted prank, I promise you will not have to worry about what to do with this account..... I will suspend it myself...

Well i for one will miss Mydatery, he was a force to be reckoned with on here, and while he could be hard sometimes he always helped those that really needed it, not to mention he was entertaining in his own unique way.
Its strange isn't it, how you can feel you know someone when you've never met them, but that's the nature of the internet i guess, and i must admit i thought this was a joke at first because the news just felt so unbelievable.

As some of you will know, my belief system is that see more of a spiritual nature, my wife is actually a spiritual medium, and while some will not believe in this, i truly believe that Mydatery is over the other side looking down, and still watching out for the newbie dolphinier and i can just imagine him saying " No you dont do it like that, come here, this is how you do it"...

His presence will be missed im sure.

I also think if its ok with his family that his work should be left on, it would be a fitting remembrance for a man that loved dolphin and was so loyal and passionate about it.

R.I.P John

Life and Death are so surreal. Being one that lost a 12 year old son, I know the swiftness in which Death can visit ones front door. I typically dont have a hard time saying anything, but the realism of this would be tough. Im not one that caters to death, and have only been to a handful of funerals in my life, because i believe in life and the light it shines.

I am looking into starting a McGrew MyDatery Fund, looking for the software now, as this is heart wrenching to leave three girls behind. see more I currently have babies as well, 2 daughters and 1 son, God only knows what they would do without me, but I am sure a way would be made.

Could you please get in touch with me on the matter of continuing MyDatery's sites and existence on behalf of the girls?

Regards,
DosDawg

Oh, please dont try to be snarky with St. Peter --> RIP
tyke
@zarcon, hold your horses there, thats a bit hard isnt it. Strep throat if left untreated can cause rheumatic fever and scarlet fever, which is fatal. its shocking news i know, nobody would play this sort of joke. The persons thats logged in in probably family or a dear friend letting us know.
Zarcon
@tyke, No I am not being too harsh. I expressed my condolences and will to help out just as everyone else has. I want to make it perfectly clear that my heart goes out to his family and friends in their loss of John. Even though he may not have been the most like fella here at Unity, he was still a friend of mine as he was to alot of folks here.

I would not think that someone would actually play a joke about this or at least hope not, however I also wanted to make my point to anyone doing so.

It has taken more than a couple of hours to compose myself enough to post here. Whatever John may have attempted in life, he was first and foremost a husband and father, and the realization that three beautiful little girls will never be able to run to daddy's arms again is absolutely soul-shattering. Mother's Day will never ever have the usual meaning for them again. Loving family and friends, helping others are truly the only thing in this life that matters...

This is truly saddening news, and I for one will very much miss John's presence on Unity. From the discussions I've had to the work I've done with him, I've found him to be one of the greatest people I've had the pleasure to know. Although he had a patented attitude and his presence was met at times with displeasure, he always helped those in need, and was another person behind the scenes who you could always enjoy talking with. Realizing this, I will miss him, as I am sure others will. Unity has see more lost one of its legends. May you rest in peace, John. My sincerest condolences to his family.

John was one of the most active members of this community and we will miss him a lot. I secretly praise myself for being able to find words in almost any situation, but now I am lost. This is a great loss for us, and I am sure for his family and friends as well.

John was our virtual friend and co-worker, so please let us know if there's anything we can do to help. BoonEx and Unity is a strong body and we can help.

MyDatery was helpful to many members here. He was also very passionate about his ideas and at times would convey them in similar manner. If you've ever dealt with John, you'll know what I mean ;)

When John first came to Unity he didn't know the first thing to Dolphin. He didn't even know how install it. In time and I am sure with a lot of hard work, he became very proficient and was able to help out many who went through similar issues and problems when setting up a Dolphin site. After a while, see more he was known as an expert and built up a bit of a fan base. His most recent project I understand was very heavy in PHP and code that was stretching his skills to a new level.

Over a course of a couple of years, John went from zero to hero. He went into a new world with Dolphin and discovered the intracacies of the PHP, MySQL, CSS, jQuery and all kinds of other acronymatic phrases. He worked and he became one of the regulars at Unity. So much that, when I don't see him chime in, I will ask myself, "hmmmm...where's mydatery? I wonder what he has to say this time". Truth be told, whatever he had to say, I would usually seek to read it as I can be guaranteed it will be interesting as long as it had the Original MyDatery spice added to it. When that spice got added, it was rarely boring and made for some threads where hilarity would sometimes ensue.

I've read that in order to discover new worlds, you have to have the courage to lose site of the shore. Not all can do that, but I think John did it very well with his work here at Unity.

Very sad to hear this. He was a wonderful man who helped a lot of people here. :(
theguypc
If this is true, my thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I must admit that I am quite sceptical though. Like Zarcon, I cannot find anything on the death of any 'John McGrew' other than an elderly man and that was in April.

Unfortunately, I have experience in this area. I had a member of a social networking site I used to run, commit suicide. There were reports of it available almost immediately by simply Googling his name.

I find it a bit strange that his site doesn't have anything see more about it either. It could be that his family doesn't know how to access it, but it is odd.

Finally, I have never heard of anyone going in for strep throat and being told that it was just to late to treat - having the person die 2 days later. I'm no expert, but I would think the doctors would have been treating him aggressively up until the end - not just "making him comfortable". Doctors will treat a patient with the flesh eating strep right up until they pass, so it seems odd that they would just let John fade away - so to speak.

Maybe someone else has found some information and could share it (??)

I strongly suspect a prank here, but if not - God speed John. May you rest in peace.

There is nothing at all on the www about a John McGrew. Maybe we don't have the correct details to search by or maybe.......just maybe........he is building a Boonex community site for Elvis.

Sorry! Just my idiotic attempt to bring a smile to everyone's face in this sad time. I didn't really know mydatery, though like many of us, I did get to know of him through his many, many informative and sometimes controversial posts. Though I am quite sure he would have a perfectly formed and entertaining see more response to being associated with the likes of Elvis,

I hate to say this but using http://www.chatdd.com/yahoo-block-checker/ and checking his Yahoo Messenger ID as extremist70 it shows him online. Screen shot it. For all the skeptics on this blog and strep throat experts ... try looking up someone as Famous as Jim Henson who die of organ failure with Strep throat related bacteria and he just felt a little off and did not want to go to the doctor and by the time he did it was too late even with aggressive treatment.
Regards Patrick
Zarcon
Maybe I was in the wrong for jumping into skepticism here. Maybe it was just my way of thinking "Nah, he really isn't gone..can't be.." I mean, thinking outside the box, there were just so many things that didn't seem to make sense to me such as:

- Friday goes to the doctor, Friday evening to emergency room, and within 48 hours has died.
- Within 24 hours of death, a "close friend" has signed in using his account to announce his death only at Unity. Boonex is the only site see more in the world that know of this passing?
- No information resides on the web or in any public records in the US or Canada reflecting the death of John McGrew. Understanding that a family can request to not publish a obituary in the newspaper, you do not have any authority about public records as it is required for census, archives, etc.
- The poster is refusing to provide or accept any contact, condolences, flowers, service arrangements to/from any of the friends here at Unity. Although privacy is very understandable, if its that private, then why even tell us?
- Strep throat and other related fevers and bacterias are treated using antibiotics (penicillin, amoxicillin, etc) and not Morphine with steroids. I know it not "impossible" to die from related diseases associated with strep throat, it just normally very rare.
- Seeing other people I have lost being medicated with Morphine, I find it hard to believe that they would have the ability to use a Blackberry device to provide login information to close friends and family.

Don't patronize me for now wanting to believe that this has really happened. Maybe for my own well being, this is my way of dealing with it. If I convince myself he isn't gone.. maybe he will not be in my mind at least. So if you have anything harsh to say, just keep it to yourself. If everyone else can pick & choose how to feel and what to say, then I should be able to the same.
houstonlively
I certainly understand your point of view Zarcon. The person we knew as Mydatery, John McGrew (If that was his real name) would have posed the same questions. Fact is, there are no public records of a recent passing of anyone named John McGrew, and that is highly unusual, in fact, improbable.
LightWolf
I guess for most of us, it is hard to comprehend that someone like Mydatery who was so strong willed and opinionated could possible be here one minute and gone the next. I to had a hard time believing this, and lord knows Mydatery and I did not get along, but I do not think he would pull such a elaborate joke on the whole community. I do believe he has crossed over, but I also have a nagging feeling that the cause of his passing is not right. Something does not sit right with this. Either way, there see more sure will be a huge hole in Unity with such a strong member passing. Please remember, only those left behind after a passing are the ones that suffer. Mydatery is in a place of peace and love. Yes God loves all his children, even the stubborn ones..lol
cbassthefish
@ HL is does seem rather unusual. Hopefully this can be resolved quickly.
DPC
valid piont HL John would have questioned everything 10 times my point above was it does happen
theguypc
@DPC - You must have missed reading the part of my post that said "I'm no expert"

You must have further skipped over the entire point that was made afterwards. That being that they would have tried treating him - not just make him comfortable for two days while he died. You - yourself - stated that they aggressively treated Henson. I fail to see how that takes anything away from what I actually posted.

But thanks for playing.

I still don't understand what is going on with this, see more since I haven't found anything about this online yet, and frankly..... the post seems to contradict itself if you read it carefully. Simple grief could explain that however.

If MyDatery did die, I can understand that his friends and family would have a hard time posting about it. I can also understand why they would want to keep their personal information quiet. But there are a lot of things here that don't *seem* to add up.

So DPC you can complain about people being skeptical all you want, but there are a lot of very odd things about all of this. Maybe it's just coincidence, but don't poo poo those who point it out. We all agree that if this is true, it's a shame and a real loss for a lot of people. Especially his kids.

Being a little skeptical doesn't make me, Zarcon, or anyone else bad people. Trust, but verify. It's a very wise motto to live by.

I'm done with this subject. Too many people can't use their brains when emotions are involved.

R.I.P. MyDatery, John McGrew, or whoever it was that we called by those names.
very sad we will miss you buddy

I would have to agree with Zarcon. Very skeptical.

So, If you Knew John, you also Know he owns the site of: mydatery.com and some others.

No mention there... But mentioned here on Unity?

buckmcgoo
I know if one of my loved one passed away the 1st thing I would do is jump on the internet and tell people in forums they passed away.. that was sarcasm, if anyone did that at all it would be months down the road. This is simple enough to solve, whoever made this post can give the details to Andrew or one of the boonex people and they can verify it and NOT give the info to any of us.. frankly I don't buy this at all.
dolphin_jay
In the words of John Mcgrew (mydatery)

" The day was October 7th, 2008 and I had the brilliant idea of creating a website for the first time in my life. I decided to hop online & take a 1/2 hour course in HTML. Well I quickly learned you don't build a social networking site out of HTML.

But 68 Days later I launched MyDatery.Com. While it is probably the smallest online dating site so far, it is not the lowest in site options. Today, the first 100% Free Online Dating site now offers see more more toys than most Social Networking Sites have and it still keeps it free as it always will. "

We will all miss you.

It's amazing, everyone just took it as the gospel truth... they all posted their "RIP"s and now they have moved on to Sooopertwitter. He must have only owed that one guy money from the other post or more people would have spoke up.
tyke
Blimey what a world we live in where we think somebody would lie about a thing like this...
I have one question for people who really dont believe this is true...

Q where is mydatery

Its been nearly a week now, dont you think if this wasn't true he would have been on..

Im sure Andrew will have been contacted by the person who initially posted with mydaterys account on here or we wouldnt have an official response from boonex. which we did.

I wish that MD would come on and tell us its see more all a sick joke, that some hacker got into his account here while he was away on vacation or something, but i really think thats not going to be the case...
houstonlively
Tyke, perhaps someone is deceased. Some of us would just like to know who. In the past decade, I have lost no less than 20 family members and friends, and not once, did anyone NOT leave an online record that could easily be found. It simply doesn't happen that way. In the absence of such a record in this case, it is obvious to me and a few others that there is a missing piece to this puzzle. Tyke, people will lie about absolutely anything... especially within the virtual reality we call the see more internet, because they don't have to look anyone in the eye when they're doing it. People can be whoever they want to be, say whatever they want to say, and do whatever they want to do. How are we to know that people are who they say they are, or what they say is true, without real-world verification?

My first post in this thread was to request details so that people that cared, could at least send a card. I worded it as delicately as I could. I can speak from experience, that when I've lost friends and family members, the first thought was to contact as many people as possible with the details as to where and when services were to be held. In the absence of that information, people are left to fill in the blanks themselves, and perhaps those blanks are being filled out incorrectly..... but how are we to know?

People here are skeptical for good reason. Anyone reading this should not correlate skepticism to something disrespectful. They just want the blanks filled in, and that's not asking too much, considering the gravity of the topic. Some people tend to accept whatever is thrown at them, prefer to be politically correct, and not make waves... and that's fine. However..... someone needs to ask the difficult questions, that everyone else is afraid to ask. If no one ever asked the tough questions, we'd all be living in a make-believe world.

My only question is: Who is Mydatery?
buckmcgoo
Houston, I think this is a mystery that may never be solved because everyone else seems gullable enough to believe it. We also don't have any info to go on. I can almost guarantee you MD is sitting somewhere reading these posts and laughing his ass off at all these people writing tributes and poems.
hd4real
Well, the moment I read this, I did check online to find info but nothing is listed. If this indeed turns out to be a joke, it will certainly not be appreciated.
LightWolf
Boonex can you please contact Mydatery's family and see what info you can get? It has been awhile now and am sure they will be willing to solve this mystery, other wise there will be a lot of what if's and a lot of mixed emotions. I for one would like to lay this to rest also.
Zarcon
Well I for one am glad to see that other people have spoke up regarding the "missing links". But if this does come up as false, Im sure we will never hear about it. It would be too simple just not to login/post anymore and keep everyone wondering, especially if he has another project to keep him occupied :)

@HL - very good points you made. This is a "virtual world" were you can do anything you want without limitations.

@Lightwolf - Not sure if Andrew has his families contacts see more or not, but maybe the mystery poster will comeback and give us an update.
buckmcgoo
I doubt Andrew will have time to contact them.. at the rate he is launching new projects he won't have any free time for the next several years!
LightWolf
Well if they do not come back and give us info on this, then I guess something is NOT right in demark! I for one would like to know why his passing is not listed in vital statistics. That is a state section that ALL deaths are posted in yet his is not. Non in US and none in Canada.
houstonlively
The way I see it, there are two possible reasons for no public record of this:

1. No one is deceased.

2. We are all searching for the wrong name.

If somebody wants to jump in and prove me wrong, now's the time.

Ummm, when it was said taking over his projects does that include registering and leaving hatefull messages and insults? And tell the site "When I am done everyone is going to hate you?" I only ask since the day my crew and him decided to duke it out. The site has been reciving hateful messages from him, to it's users staing "Bizzi is a pedophile" "Bizzi just wants your info so he can hack you". Leaving hateful messages in our shout box? It hasn't changed. In fact just see more recived one yesterday addressed to the admin saying "Bizzi will bring down your whole site" As the admin, (ME BIZZI) I kinda lauphed it off a bit.

So I guess my question is, Can people login to Boonex sites from the dead? Is there a mod or something I missed?

Should I use a weegee board to ask him to stop?

Ban me for saying it... but you been HAD by a dram queen.

If I am wrong may I rot in hell and be raked over a thousand hot coals.

Very petty to delete my post. No it's really petty to delete my post. I have locked the account so others can't login from the crew. But if I am gonna be treated like a punk.... It will be returned respect is a two way street.

I got a 2000+ warbot net with full DDOS UDP etc... that says... respect is a two way street. I run the crew as I know what i am doing. I have not been resposible for the going ons here. I strongly suggest not treating me like some punk. Unlike the others.

My bark has a bite.

It's posted on Andrews blog that linked to this. MrDatery grow up.

(And it didn't get deleted so I know it was not staff that deleted it good try though)
I'm sorry you fought with my crew. I am sorry you were made to look like an ass. Truth of the matter is. Noone cared. Now that you have done this trying to fake your death of all things... now you REALLY look like an ass. And it's all your own doing. It's sad you would do that to people here some of which for whatever reason really like you.. see more As another of my crew stated before.

You need help.
bizzi
Good luck deleting it off of Andrews blog.

He he he.
They were right you are a straight up punk!
LightWolf
I to noticed that he has recently logged into his myspace account, well 1 of them..lol http://www.myspace.com/mcnuggety If this was family, they either would have deleted both his myspace accounts or left a message to all on his wall about his passing. I take back the thought he had passed, and would not do this to people here. MyDatery, you will soon reap your own Karma, and all I can say is God help you sir.

Well I did make a promise on my first post of this blog. I think I should stand behind that promise too. There have been no recent updates or anything to convince us otherwise. Also too many people are now noticing "strange" occurrences of people logging into other accounts that are owned by MyDatery.

All in favor say I ?

I am too very skeptical about this whole affair but..

1. There still is no proof either way
2. The same person who logged into his account may be logging into others, if they are being logged into.
3. Too many people are now noticing! How many is "too many"?
4. It hasn't turned out to be a Twisted Prank yet.
5. If you suspend MyDatery's account then we will never find out the truth.

@Zarcon

1. I say I.
2. If its not him accessing the account it should be closed.
3. If it is him let him email Andrew to get his account reopened.

John is the ONLY reason why BrokenHeartedGirl.com transferred to the Dolphin platform. He basically helped me install the entire thing! He was incredibly helpful and giving and didn't ask for anything in return, even though I gave him a "donation" anyhow. I am very sorry to read about his passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.

And for the skeptics...he was a real guy. I spoke with him on the phone and exchanged many emails while I was trying to get my site see more up. Whether or not John McGrew is, indeed, his real name is moot. Whoever he was - he was a great source of information and inspiration, as he shared his knowledge without expecting anything in return. This is very sad.

This Really Very Sad. He was very nice and helpful guy.

Condolences to John's family. He was quite helpful to a newbie like myself and I never found him rough but rather more like 'Do you need me to hit you upside the mellon with a smart stick?" twisted humour kind of person. I appreciated his sense of humour and I hope that his family, although grieving, will take the time to just remember who he really was and what he really would have wanted. I'm sad today because a wonderful person is gone but also happy that I had the chance to know him before see more he did. x
CALTRADE
This was all a fraud. We have now proven it. John McGrew is a con man and a sociopath who wrote his own death announcement. Please see this thread for more information: http://www.boonex.com/unity/forums/?action=goto&search=1#topic/Dishonest-Member.htm

Hmm, can I say "I TOLD YOU SO!!"
