Even on the demo site, people search by zip code doesn't work as expected. Searching any US zip code returns the exact same results.
To reproduce the problem:
http://www.demozzz.com/dolphin720rc/search.php
Select the 'Adv' option in the 'SEARCH PEOPLE' block
Scroll down to 'Location', enter a value such as '10' in the miles/km field, then any US zip code...then click 'Search'
Search results are always the same.

There are certain steps that have to be done to use the zip search successfully.
Not sure if your aware of the module requirements.

To enable search by ZIP code in profiles' search forms go to: Dolphin admin panel -> Builders -> Profile Fields -> Search Profiles. You need to drag "Country" and "Location" fields, at least. Please remove any other location related blocks like "zip code" and/or "city".
The country and city fields need to be removed from search.

Nothing I do, gets search by zip code to work logically
Just enter any US zip code in the search on the demo site, and then tell me it makes sense.

I realize that on the demo site, the US users may not have entered a zip code in their profile, but is not logical to get the same search results for any zip code that is added to the search criteria. I could argue that it's not logical to get any results at all.
It needs work.

If a person decides to install the zip code search module, shouldn't it be enabled by default?

If a person decides to install the zip code search module, shouldn't it be enabled by default?
Since it requires some steps to set it up, I think - no.
Geonames - requires Geonames username to be entered
Google - required World Map module to be installed and user's locations to be geocoded.

I am trying to get zip code search working but I cannot find the "Profiles Map" Module that it mentions... is this module gone? Or should we be using the Geonames? Seems all info is outdated on the web...

I've got it half working...
I added a couple new members to test but their locations will not populate in the searches...
The old members that "Work" only changes in search when the actual map is updated on profile. The zip code field in the profile appears to play no role.
I would like zip code field on profile to work and not require members to physically select their location on the map..
but right now I cannot get new members to populate into the search despite having a zip code and a location set on the google map. I am trying to figure out what is different between the older members accounts and new member accounts..

I would suggest to add to join form the following fields: Country, City, Zip. Then location should be autoupdated upon join. Rules → http://www.boonex.com/terms |
