What is happening to the market?

I noticed the market had a make-over, however many categories are still empty and a lot of modules are hard to find or can't be found at all. A friend once said "there is no such thing as failure, it's just a different outcome then desired". Nevertheless, some sort of communication about this less then desired outcome would be appreciated.

And what ticks me off is the hot list is gone.

I had 2 or 3 products show up there. That list helped my sales. Now the redesign is going to tank me. I don't like it at all.

No search on the page either. Most people don't know that search icon on the upper right of the page can search the market too.

It should be right on the page.

Why don't they discuss these market changes with the vendors before they go in a make things worse.

It's called "Top Rated;" right?

Nope. Not the same thing.

Top rated are mods that have the highest rating. The hot list was a list of mods that recently received high review scores. They would stay on the list for a few days, get pushed down by other mods that recently got good reviews, ect. It was basically a list of the mods that were currently actively selling and getting reviews.

It was the only list where mods that were fairly new that did not show up on the top of the highest rated list because they are too new to have high ratings. At least with the hot list, a fairly new module when reviewed would get the spotlight on that list every so often. Each time one of my modules popped up on that list, i would get a short increase in sales. That's how i knew the list was useful to me. Now it's no longer there.

Personally I like the way it was back to 2012... With module names fully visible, with search, with traders and other things.. It was simple and understandable, sales was 3...4 times higher than now.

...

Now it's just a little funny/.

"Ultimate video Ba" (Bar? Back? Band? Bank? Banana? Baby?),

"Graphic design is" (guess what? :),

"Mouse block Desi" (Desi? Desire? Design? Designer?) ....

I hope they are still working on it.

I noticed it about 8 hrs ago and figured they MUST be still working on it since it looks unfinished and some quick tests showed some obvious flaws.  At this point, I don't see the revised layout as much of an improvement over the previous one, but then I'd gotten used to the old layout.  As Dean mentioned... the Hot List needs to be re-added... it's more important to me than any of the other categories.  I suggest you put Hot List first, then Latest, then Top Rated, then (last) Staff Picks.  Since your new layout is using up a lot of space (partially due to the larger product icons) I further suggest you display by default only the top 6 for each category.

Also... how does one add a thumbs-up or thumbs-down to a product?

Also... how does one add a thumbs-up or thumbs-down to a product?

This is what was cracking my head today too :) Maybe if you "unlike" the product, it will go to thumb-down,,, haven't tried yet :)

Also would be just great to have some simple statistic on modules - how many people viewed module by days for the past week or so, what page did they came from, etc. It's a basic marketing instruments, how can you sell products on the market if you are technically blind?

As a customer of the market, I don't like the partially hidden name, not now, and not before this change.

Staff Picks means nothing.  Are the staff running REAL Dolphin based websites with real users and have purchased the staff picks modules and installed them on their real Dolphin based website?  If the answer is NO, then remove staff picks, if the answer is YES, then show me these sites so that I know Staff Picks mean more than hot air.

Boonex You need to put " Updated" back. How I am going to find out a vendor just " have a new update version of a mod that I bought?

30 Jan 2014

The changes as they currently stand killed the last bit of community input to the market. It now for 90% depends on Boonex if a module is going to succeed or not.

I'm lucky with my Advanced Password Forgot, this module is the only "staff picked" module in the authentication section and is reasonable popular by people. My GEO Locator is mainly backed by the community and therefore shows up in the stats, but when you look at "Collections" it is not in Dating or Location funnily enough. This could of course be a human error.

Looking at my BotStopper Module, this is no where to find in the market. Although it only had positive feedback, it never showed up in the hotlist and after updating it, it didn't show up in the updated section either. I very recently mentioned this to AlexT.

What all of this means, I don't know and will wait for feedback from Boonex about the current market situation. I just go on developing and improving my mods. I'm working on a new release of the AutoMail module. It is becoming a very powerfull tool that in combination with my BotStopper and Advanced Password Forgot module are going to take care of all my registrations. I already released an update for the BotStopper, the GEO Locator and "Killer Whale" Forums this week and there is more to come.

I am also starting to sell managed Dolphin packages. These packages include everything you need to run your own Dolphin site and more. This way you can solely focus on managing your community and don't have to worry about the technical side of things, like upgrades, etc. I even include hotfixes and work-arounds for (un)known issues. People who are interested can aways PM for details.

They finally made "Subscribe" button on each profile. Not sure how it works, but should notify members about something.

I think would be good idea to add an options to this button - "notify for": product updates, new product, forum posts, new notes, new blog record, etc.

Small hint: build a friendly webshop layout and maybe ask the people here how they would like it.

Please put "Updated" and "Latest" back, I use these only these daily. Staff picks whats that!!! An already bad market place has just got worse. If i cannot find something new or updated how can I buy it (the vendors also lose out aslo).

Ok guys, I guess since most of us are not satisfied with marketplace, let's suggest some useful features (and why) instead of complaining how everything is bad. It will be more efficient and hopefully somebody will hear us. Maybe with some graphical sketches.

Here's some of mine ideas, please judge...

And another one...

Those are still there. http://www.boonex.com/market they just removed the tabs and stacked them on top of each other. Scroll down under the staff picks.

There are only 3 sections now. The one i miss and am going to miss that i want back is the hot list section.

Yes I understand an example is (Deanos new - Cron Monitor 27/01/2014 ) it is not in the Latest, so if I did not know the I Deano as a vendor I would have missed it (or maybe I am missing something there also).

30 Jan 2014

The three column layout is not working, it cuts off the name of the module and the page looks cramp and cluttered.  Plus, I think a border around each module would make the page look cleaner.  The idea is to probably display more modules at the same time but it is not working; better to have less modules on the page and have a better, cleaner, less cluttered, layout.

Yes. It is in the latest. And it is currently the newest module.

I agree. Part of it is the listings i think are to large. Shrink the icons down a bit. Smaller fonts as well, and switch to two columns. They will fit better and with the full title in the block.

And if the tabs are brought back like before so only one section is on the page at a time. This one is taking a long time to load do to database lookups for 3 sections at once.

An the drop down selections are not working properly.

If your select free instead of paid and try to further narrow it down by selecting the category templates, it will not show proper results. So that's of no use the way it is.

And we need a search back on the page for searching by keywords and phrases in the product title and description.

For those of us that may need a visual reminder of what the 'old' Market layout looked like, you can view this screenshot from last November 5th: http://web.archive.org/web/20131105220304/http://www.boonex.com/market

As Dean noticed, I'm also finding the dropdown selector array to be *buggy*.

In the revised "Providers" section, how are you defining their rating of either: Top, Popular, Established, or New?  Each one should be clearly explained.  I see some Providers with a "Popular" rating that have not been very popular recently... making me imagine Boonex is calculating "Popular" based on the Provider's entire history, which could be many years.  I'm only interested in their track record for the last 12 months.  If Boonex insists on basing their "Popular" rating a Provider's entire history, then please add a new rating category that is focused only on the previous 12 months.

I believe it is currently based on the total points earned. I have worked diligently here for 5+ years to earn those points. I would hate to see them reset so i have to start all over again with some new system. And i may not. I may just start somewhere else developing for a different platform.

Dean, I have to imagine that someone as quick to offer support as yourself would have an excellent track record for the last 12 months and would therefore be in the top 5... otherwise the calculations, as I envision the results, were not being done correctly.

My request for a rating to focus on the last 12 months is to eliminate those developers that earned their popularity points years ago and have done little in the last year to support their products.  If 12 months is not long enough then make it 18 months.  The Providers I've found who, in my opinion, do not deserve their current Popular rating appear to have stopped being "popular" for over a year... specifically with those requesting support for their products (and contract work).

It's already been sinking. The pumps are working overtime. I noticed a huge drop right around the time the licensing prices changed. I have not seen much of an increase in activity since.

I do know this. I will have to move on or try something else if i continue to get hit with drops. I don't want to be on the ship when it does sink.

Don't say this Dean, you are one of the best on here; you have helped me a lot for free.

Boonex needs to make some decisions that may be hard to swallow.  For one, they need to do something about the recommended hosting.  Yes, they are making money off it but at the same time, a lot of people may use them, see problems, and then just say the heck with Dolphin.  If you are going to post recommended hosts, then recommend host that actually set up a programme for true Dolphin hosting.  Advertising $4/month hosting for Dolphin is a misleading practice from the hosts that reflects badly on Boonex.  We have brought this to the attention of Boonex several times. How much are they making from those adverts?  Is it enough to risk hurting the reputation of Boonex?  Andrew Boon, think about this, if a new person comes in, buys a Dolphin license, puts their site on one of the recommended hosting, sees nothing but trouble, don't you think they are going to blame Boonex's Dolphin community application?  After all, they are using a host that you recommended.

My apologies to the OP for getting off topic.

Why not to turn this kind of layout

to something clean and intuitive like this? You can order by price, date and anything else important.

Let's say, I have only $150 and I want to see what can I buy for this sum. All categories are visible and search field at the top. Pretty nice.

I totally agree. This drop was 50...70% in sales here and interest from users side. Also I have noticed some drop when design was changed. People were unable to adopt to the new layout so fast, it's not intuitive. Many are asking me if I have the certain module: I assume they just can't find my profile on the market.

What is happening to the market?

Appears to have stepped on land mine Cool

1 Feb 2014

OK.....This blows!

I used to monitor practically daily to see if there are new modules recently added to the market.....(WooHoo- new toys to buy!)

And just as important- Which modules have recently been updated or something changed with products or their posting.

Can anyone tell me how I am to do this now? Easily?

I mean, as it is now, I don't even feel like logging on and checking....

uhhhhh...if other buyers feel as I do, then yes, vendors sales may well decrease.

I sure as hell hope Boonex still has this project on the table and listening.

EDIT----> OK, I see now I'm getting a little peaved a bit too soon.....I see now that I have to scroll down the page and there is Latest and Recently Updated  ROWS.....Whewwwww! Thank gawd!

1 Feb 2014

what the heck was wrong with the way it was??? i just looked again it gives me a headache Yell

1 Feb 2014

Ok, here's the statistic since market was updated:

0 sales

0 questions

0 new customers

0 new messages from customers

Couple more days and I'll have to seriously think about quitting and looking for some job.

Business is not a thing to make jokes with.

I know, nobody begged me to join Boonex, to help people here and nobody never promised to earn anything, so I can't blame anybody for bad design or killing marketplace here. They do what they want. They could close this company tomorrow without double asking anybody. It's just sad... very sad what they are doing with your hopes.
