Video Embed

Is there a way to embed videos from one Dolphin based site into another dolphin based site?

Reason for me: have 169 videos on one domain and they all work. Now Ineed these same videos in another site. But instead of uploading all of the videos all over again forthe new site, I would like to do something simpler. I was thinking that Icould use the embed option like using a youtube video,but I got a "Embedding video failed" error.

This is a fresh (manual) install of 7.1.2

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance.

 This has been a hot topic here, for couple years. I've seen lots of members leave over this one seemingly simple thing.

Let me pull some old topics up...

thats where I am at now - unfortunately. The client has hired a new project manager, and the new project manager has said that if it wont work, then he would rather scrap using dolphin and start over from scratch. I would rather upload all of the videos instead of scrapping dolphin. Everythign I have done for this project has been dolphin based, and to start over now, means I have to rewrite everything from scratch - messenger, videos, avatar, mail, and more - and I dont have the knowledge to do it all from scratch - which is why the client and I elected to use dolphin in the first place, as it already included 80% of the features the client wanted.

This is just some part of a long topic, the member was making video and wanted to post on other adult sites from her's.

Somewhere at sometime, someone explained why this would never work...good luck

with all the other "mess" going on in that topic. I got lost after the 2nd post. Tried to keep reading and got through 75% and now more confused than ever. That thread got so offbase, I dont even know if her problem is the same as mine (lol).

I know I am retarded, and need things to be a little more elementary. I would gladly try any siuggestions that would help accomplish this. SO, I will try to give more information as I see on the other thread there may be some other variables involved.

First off. The original site is running 7.1.1 beta. I have all of the videos uploaded by admin, and set to members only. Then I went and created a "Streaming" membership, and all other memberships I have removed the access to viewing videos. So - and this is probably one of the only things I could understand from that thread - I believe I should change this so that the videos are viewable by public. As access to the file from an outside source would mean that it is not using a logged in members account with Streaming membership. Hope my logic makes sense.

a little bit more added information, and I am hoping this may lead to a feasible resolution within dolphin.

I have the main domain: mydomain.com  - this is where the videos are (actually will be once I move the test over site over)

I have another site at: mydomain.com/newsite - there will be several of these, and they will all follow the same structure (ie. mydomain.com/newsite2; mydomain.com/newsite3; and so on) since they are on the same server, and the videos are technically in the same domain, is there a workaround I can do to give me what I need?

a little bit more added information

 Sorry to confuse. How do you think we felt? That was just one of her post...

What I'm trying to say, we have never been able to embed our videos "outside" our own domain.

You can embed the all over the original site, but post somewhere else, and nothing.

Some say it was the privacy settings which in part is true. If you have where only members can see the video on the site, then outside the site they are locked.

We really went round and round on this, as you see in those long topic post.

 was hoping with the new 7.1.2, and since I am not technically trying to view the videos outside of the original domain - that something may have been worked out. Oh, And I changed the video album to be viewable by Public. Couldnt find it for the actualvideo itself.

I know my logic is sketchy at times, but it just seems that there is something that is so simple to resolve this. Considering, again, I want to view the videos - technically- from within the same domain.

Oh well, looks like I will be starting over from scratch.

Just curious - when creating a new video album, there is a field that says "Location" what exactly is this for?

ok, i have been spending the past hour looking at things, and I may have askedmy question incorrectly, so Iwill try to rephrase:

Instead of calling the videos from inside the site I am in,can they be "called" from the main domain instead, as it uses the exact same structure.

My initial tests were to change some coding, which has yielded some promising results. in the BxVideosConfig.php, I edited the following functions:

    function getFilesPath ()
    {
        return 'http://mydomain.com/flash/modules/video/files/';
    }

    function getFilesUrl ()
    {
        return 'http://mydomain.com/flash/modules/video/files/';
    }

Doing so , gave me the thumbnail of a video in the album, but clicking it plays the incorrect video - still looking at what else I need to change.

Again, any help would be greatly appreciated asI really do not want to use an alternative (outside option that would end up costing more money) nor do I want to start over from scratch.

Thanks again.

OK, after re reading your first post.

I did just what your trying to do I think.

this page http://webcamyourface.com/page/new_videos

has a video pulled via the embed code from a totally different Dolphin 7.1.2 test site.

[edit] I might add, that the embedded video will NOT play back in the HTML5 player, it reverts to the old player as you see.

http://mygaylocations.com/m/videos/view/Christina-Aguilera-Not-Myself-Tonight-Official-Unedited

that is where the video is pulled from.

Ok great, that is one thing I was looking at, but it would require me to create my own linksand such for each video - not too much of a big deal. And using the flash video player is not an issue either. I can live with that.

I think I should have mentioned that the reason I am going through all of this trouble is because I like  the way the functionality is set up - espoecially when there are multiple videos in one album. The arrows to go to the next and previous, as well as the block that for "all videos in this album".

But it is a plus to know that the video can be embedded - at least looking at the way you did it.

I figured I will keep my notes here - in case someone has the same question, or may come up with abetter solution, or may notice an error in what I am doing.

My next step - after changing the above mentioned 2 functions - was to copy the sys_album and sys_album_objects tables from the main domain to the subdomain. So far, I have all of the videos listed in their proper folders, and all of the proper video thumbnails are displaying. Clicking one of hte video thumbnails gives me a file not found on the video view page. But so far things look to be going in the right direction.

Using firebug, I do see the url of the Main domain for the thumbnail:

background-image: url('http://main_domain_url.com/flash/modules/video/files/120_small.jpg');

so now I just need to find out where to change this:

http://main_domain_url.com/subdomain_folder/m/videos/view/0-Trauma-Introduction

for the actual file - I am guessing this is in one of those get_file.php pages

I was really hoping someone would have come up with an idea on how to "call" the videos from the main directory into subdomains. I have made a few changes, that only partially work. In addition to the function change i already stated, I also changed the get_file.php in both the flash/modules/video and flash/modules/video_comments folders

$sExt = isset($_GET["ext"]) && preg_match('/^[0-9a-z]+$/', $_GET["ext"]) ? $_GET["ext"] : (file_exists("http://main_domain.com/flash/modules/video/files/" . $sId . ".m4v") ? "m4v" : "flv");
$sFile = "http://main_domain.com/flash/modules/video/files/" . $sId . "." . $sExt;

When trying to view videos that are stored on the main domain - i get a file not found error - but all of the thumbnails do show appropriately.

I decided to upload a new video to the subdomain, I get a file not found error with the above changes in place. And applying the default coding allows the video to play. So, I know something is going on and it is trying to look somewhere - just dont know if it is looking in the correct directory for the videos. There are so many variables going on that I do not know which is for what.

Unfortunately, I am on a time schedule. And if I am unable to get this working by the end of today - I will not be able to continue using dolphin. Please, someone help me.

Hello Prof I am No good with php so your solution from my mind is simple if all of your files are on the same server and I take it that it will have amply storage space and your users are not able to upload videos just put the data base data in the reliant places and copy the video files on server to each modules/video/files and like wise with the thumbnails This would be a lot quicker than uploading each video over and over again and you could have it working in a short time pleasing your new man

I also be think there is a method that allows more than one site to utilize the same database floating about the forums somewhere.

Happy thoughts

thank you for your response Mingle, Our members will not have the ability to upload videos. These are videos that were uploaded by admin only, and viewable by specific membership levels. And as such, I only need one copy. It would start to take up a lot of space, as the subdomains will be duplicated for several members per our usage of the system - which is not as a  social networking site, but as a way for mental health therapists to keep track of their clients, and such.

So basically, I have the main domain which is where all of the videos were uploaded. Say - for example -  Dr. SoandSo wants to keep track of his patients using our system. We have a base setup that we would use to create a site specifically for that provider which would be in a folder of the main domain and accessed via web browser by going to mydomain.com/subdomain.

It seems an easy task to me, but for the life of me I cant figure out why I cant get it to work. I have searched and changed references of the videos to the main domain, and even removed htaccess files to see if that was the problem, but yet to no avail.

I have 7 hours left to work on this, and then - if I cant get it - I will have to reinvent the wheel and start all over from scratch. Not my choice, but I can only control so much.

take a look at this it might offer a resolution or at least an alternative to losing months of work  and this

Ah, there is no choice for Dolphin Video Link for the embed option.  Therefore, no way to embed.

looking at the coding, it seems that youtube videos are the only ones you can embed into your dolphin site - i havent tried any other videos though, so i could be totally wrong. But, besides all of that. I just want to "call" the videos that are in my main domain, instead of having to duplicate them for each subdomain. Newtons solution would be feasible if it werent for the fact that  I would lose the original functionality of the videos and the client does not want to lose that, or go with a completely different system altogether.

I am currently trying to set up symbolic links and see if that will work.

I am using Rayz video embed module which adds more embed options; like vimeo.  Send a message to Rayz, maybe he can help with how to embed a video from one Dolphin site to another.

HOLY SMOLIES - I was almost about to give up, but voila - those symbolic links work. Thank the heavens. So now, I have all of my videos in my main domain, and i am able to view them in my subdomain without having to duplicate them and take up the space.

lol - then my retarded behind almost screwed it up. Tried to make the folder a symbolic link so i wouldnt have to do each and every file. That didnt work, so when i tried to redo the files I did have working, they wouldnt work. But I got it back now - phew.
