Simple Chat 2.0 from AQB Soft

Hello everybody.
This is a support forum for our Simple Chat 2.0 module.
If you have some questions or suggestions regarding it feel free to post them here or contact us directly.

For those of you who want to upgrade from Simple Chat V1, you can pay the difference only ($20) and we will switch the license for you. For more details contact us via PM.

For those of you who already purchased Simple Chat 2.0 and want to upgrade from Simple Chat V1 but save the messages database the process must be as follows:

1) Edit the file on your server modules/aqb/simple_chat/install/uninstall.sql, delete the line

DROP TABLE IF EXISTS `[db_prefix]messages`;

2) Uninstall the old module's version via admin panel.

3) Unpack the new version of the module and edit the file simple_chat/install/uninstall.sql, delete the line

DROP TABLE IF EXISTS `[db_prefix]messages`;

4) Proceed with installation of the new module per installation manual.

5) Put back the deleted line to modules/aqb/simple_chat/install/uninstall.sql (this is in case you'll ever want to completely uninstall the module, so if you're sure that you will not need to uninstall it ever then you can dismiss this step)

If you wish to add/remove/replace/rename some of the smiles then just add/remove/replace/rename gif images at

modules/aqb/simple_chat/templates/base/images/smileys/

folder. Any gif image in that folder will be automatically used by the module as a smiley.

ok, after a day of testing, I have yet to find anything to say about this version, but I will not let you go alone Anton, I'll find something, do not worry! ;-)

Anton, I find the popup form so well, I wish he souvre directly every time you click on view, in order to avoid double handling [view -> popup], I think that since you you add the popups, the chate plain page becomes useless. Just change the link to "view" to directly open the popup? How do I do this?

Then it will be nice to add an option in the admin panel to set the timer for email notification. 30 minutes is a bit much for me, I replaced 15 in sys_cron_jobs...

Ok, will be added in V2.0.1 in a couple of days

Updated to Version 2.1. New:

• Ability to control how often notifications must be sent out.
• Ability to make it via admin settings so the "View" chat button always opens the popup chat instead of a plain chat page.

Thank you for adding that. Is it necessary to reinstall? or just upload the files?

  Reinstall is required for the new settings options to appear.

Nice mod, awesome, but is there a way to maybe add an option to choose font color? My members can't view due to yes i have a different template, but just curious would there be a way?

In case of a custom template with a white default font color the font color in simple chat can be changed by adding the following code to the end of the modules/aqb/simple_chat/templates/base/css/main.css file:

table.aqb_simple_chat_chat_table div.aqb_simple_chat_message_left,

    color: #000;
}

Question. When we have several popups reduced in the taskbar chats, would it be possible to flash the windows have new messages?

The 2.1.1 version released. It makes window titles blinking in the taskbar upon receiving a new message.

To update it is necessary to replace the files, then recompile module's language and clean site's HTML cache.

Anton, in the improvements of version 1 ideas, I suggested the possibility of being notified when the corresponding wrote his message, such as a small pencil that appears, or message as "Baloo written .. . ".

You have selected all the ideas except this one, there he has a technical reason?

 Yes, this is technically hard to implement without creating too much requests to the server. So such a simple and dispensable feature can create a quite large server load if the server is not fine tuned specifically for being able to keep a lot of opened connections and have no a lot of RAM.

Could you provide more details - what kind of picture disappears from profile page? Could you provide a screenshot of the problem? Or even provide us with your domain name and a test account via PM?

Hello Anton, have some ideas ...

1. The popup, open the profile in a new window when you click on the avatar.
2. I do not know if this is possible, but have the action block centered in the popup when hovering the mouse avatar ...?
3. Display the thumbnail of the video when you send a youtube link ... it would be very "class".
4. Leave a temp folder, in order to be able to transfer images ...

1. That avatar is a default and standard thing of Dolphin. Of course it is possible to mimic the same thing but with a link leading to a new window, but for us this makes no sense, because

a) popup window opening from a popup window is a bad idea I believe

b) everywhere in Dolphin the avatar leads to a profile in the same window, so it must stay like this in the chat window too

c) if a member wants any link to be opened in a new window he can always click it using the middle mouse button or using a context menu.

2. Nope, that actions menu always appears near the avatar of a profile (otherwise it won't be working properly on pages with more than one profile avatar). Probably it is possible to rework it, but that requires to modify Dolphin's core files, which we are trying to avoid in our modules and also we strongly believe that behavior of standard Dolphin's elements in a chat popup shouldn't be different than on the rest of the site.

Hello, yes. Edit the file modules/aqb/simple_chat/templates/base/chat_popup.html, the line

<body style="padding:5px; background: white;" class="bx-def-font">

replace with

<body style="padding:5px; background: white;" class="bx-def-font" onload="window.scrollTo(0,document.body.scrollHeight);">and then clean site's templates cache.

UPDATE:

Two new features are introduced in version 2.2

1. Automatically converts youtube links into embed videos.

2. Allows to easily share pictures.

P.S. For those of you who would like to upgrade without loosing a messages database here is an instruction:

1) Via phpMyAdmin run the following MySQL query:

ALTER TABLE `aqb_simple_chat_messages` ADD COLUMN `Pic` CHAR(36);

2) Update all module's files by extracting an updated installation archive and uploading it to the server over the old module.

3) Ensure that the folder modules/aqb/simple_chat/images is having writable permissions (777 in unix format)

4) Done. Test things by sending a youtube link and sharing an image.

Wowww, impressive result. Thank you for the update. Now I am worried because the single chat does not work in 7.2, as most modules there ...

We will be working on 7.2 compatibility as soon as 7.2 will be officially released.

This is great update, now, is it possible to make youtube video thumbnail smaller and is it possible to automaticly resize large images, also, I was asking you once, can smileys be in separate popup box?

It doesn't put a thumbnail. It puts an embed code. The same embed code which is offered by youtube itself. But if you wish to alter its dimensions then edit the file modules/aqb/simple_chat/classes/AqbSimpleChatDb.php, the string

width=\"560\" height=\"315\"

Currently it doesn't resize them but showing them in up to 500px width. But if a recipient wants he still is able to download an original image via context menu.

Our answer is the same - possible but as a custom modification only. Because we think that having so many popups is a bad idea, moreover it would require too many actions from a user to put a smiley if it will be in a separate popup window.

Since this is 1-1 Chat, do you also have a Group Chat? To use instead of Module > Chat?

Are we stuck with European date format 20-10-15, or can we pick American 10-20-15, UNIX 2015-10-20?

Unfortunately no.

The module uses your site's settings for the date format. You can manage it at [admin panel -> settings -> language settings -> settings]

Fixed the Time and Date format. Thank You for the ease of your answer.

I have simple chat 2.0 installed but I dont see how to initiate a chat.  I am using the latest version of boonex.

In my account I can get to My Chats but it says I dont have any chats and I dont see any button to initiate a chat.  I do see it as installed but am a little perplexed by where the actual chatting begins.  :)

A page to initiate a chat is a profile view page or any other page where there is a member's thumbnail. After module's installation there must appear an action button for a profile called "Send Message" - that is the simpliest way of initiating a chat.

I've tried this on two different computers and get the same result.

when person "A" invites person "B" to a video chat, the graphical chat request pops up at the top left of the page with no sound (not the top left of the screen). This means if person "B" is looking at something half way down the page there's no way he could know that he's been invited to a video chat unless he happens to scroll up to the top of the page and see the invitation.  Would it be possible to add an audio notification?

Otherwise this Mod is AWESOME!  I love the feature that you can invite someone even if they show "Away".

Well worth every penny and THEN SOME!! :)

I thought I should add that I'm using simple chat 2.2 on dolphin 7.3.3.
