PKForum Support (DolphinHelp) - part 4

You have understood me veryVery well. This is very wide, popular SEO technique: I give an access for Googlebots  to topics and some texts in posts ( about 100-140 letters), but I do not give an access to users even, names.

That is why such situation is much friendly for SEO.

further research shows googlebot will hate that, at the very least you should pop up for signup with closing disabled and content hidden behind a translucent fog only for non members, not bots or members.

and btw if googlebot gets the content people can very well see it by adding a "cache:" at the beginning of the url or using the cached option in search result. I thought you should know that :)

so much to do....

I was looking into this as well.  My take on this SEO "trick" is just that... it's a sneaky way aimed at deceiving Google into thinking a *public* forum is bigger than it really it.  My understanding is that, aside from Adsense tracking, Google does not want to 'read' private forum information... only what humans can see without logging into a website.  Any attempt to deceive SEO bots typically pisses Google off and if (when!) they figure out it's being done they will severely decrease that site's SEO ranking... and the boys & girls at Google are a very smart bunch so they'll figure out a way to catch such deception.  :-)

I have a speed question. I looked through this thread (very long) and did not find a reference to it so if it's repetitive, I'm sorry.

Is there a way we can speed things up a bit? My forum has a lot of content and when someone clicks the link to the main page, it takes a VERY LONG TIME to parse the data and display the page.... How can we force it to index the content before hand?

I have the moxy image manager installed in the forum and I hate it. Zarcon has started a thread elsewhere with the same issue.

How hard would it be to integrate the current photo/video galleries in Dolphin so we could use images from them in our posts without having to cut n paste all day long....

This is the one feature the old forum was always lacking in. Want more customers? integrate the forum with the site in a manner that allows us to choose images from the existing galleries.

Ok, so I logged into your account and your site feels okay. There is no slow down I can perceive.

In fact these are some results.

Your PKforum home/main page: http://i.imgur.com/Rt6U4OD.png

Your Photos home/main page: http://i.imgur.com/wp6RU92.png

Your Groups home/main page: http://i.imgur.com/WfRABCz.png

And your site's homepage: http://i.imgur.com/z9eE9r4.png

Its not exactly super fast but its not slow by any means. I suppose there is something else going on between your browser and the server. The slowness only happens on forum home and no where else? Also, any of your users complained of slow speed?

There are an integration framework including integration with boonex modules is in works. There are plans related to photos and media in general. Though don't hold your breath for photos module integration.

Ok now yer messin with me.

That has been slow since I installed pk. ALWAYS takes 30 to 60 seconds to load the page. I figured it was because my forum has so much content related to me.

NOW it's working perfectly. What did you do? BTW, I have a direct wireless (commercial) connection that averages a 5 ms ping with 10 Mbits up and down....  It is rock solid....

As far as the integration. I think everyone would be happy if they could just grab an image for display in the posts. We wouldn't necessarily need a full integration of the photo mod to the forum.

Ok, new issue. As an administrator, I can't edit someone else's post. I also can't add myself to the super moderator page. It seems if I'm already an admin, it won't let me.

How do I work around that?

Ok, hold the phone. I see what happened. I had a user post massively wide images. I can't scroll far enough to the right to get hold of the edit link.....

A site admin, by default, can moderate all forums.  Since a site member can only be listed as a moderator once (at most) you can't add an admin as a "Super Moderator" :-)

Ok, found the topic. Very weird. No one has updated the post in years and it's strictly text content but you can cruise to it, open it and read it just fine....

It's like someone is trying to access it without the right permissions somehow.

Part of that MySQL code makes no sense to me so we'll have to wait for Prashank to look at it and comment.

I found it all in the DB. I have done two things since this started. One was I deleted a spammer using the spammer delete button from the administration page. 2, I made a change that affects image sizes within the config file for tiny_mce.... Neither should affect this I would think.

Having said that, I need to talk about permissions.

You can adjust permissions within the config for pkforum and you can adjust permissions in the membership type settings page. Can we get some specific information on best practices using the two together to properly dole out the necessary permissions to the users?

Set the Membership type permissions first since they will be the base permission levels from which PKForum's configured permissions will take affect.

Those were blind sql injection: https://www.owasp.org/index.php/Blind_SQL_Injection

Those didn't do any damage cuz characters got escaped but releasing a security update soon.

EDIT: Scratch that, Using mysql is not full proof. Probably need to work on porting the code to PDO instead. This will take time, probably the next major update. For now, its okay.

I had some yak from China create a profile manually. Then he tried posting crap in the signature line. I deleted him and his content. This was probably is retribution. All he did was manage to spam my email address 86 times with failed injection attempts but never made it into the site so I'm not too worried...

TIME seems to a problem lately. I added a new forum. I set the restrictions to this forum very high. It's a private room via Boonex as well as restricted to a specific membership via PKForum settings. Now the new posts in the entire forum are posting dates from January and February of 2010.

Very odd indeed.

The RSS feed on the front page is reporting the correct date.

I installed the Moxie Manager that is offered now with Dolphin and it seems to work everywhere except in the PKForums. Trying to resolve this myself, I tried adding ,moxiemanager to the DHPKForumTinymceEditor.php file in the same places as indicated in the BoonEx forums, but that didn't do anything.

Can you help with getting this to work with PKForums?

When?!

10 Oct 2015

Any news on the update for 7.2 please?

14 Oct 2015

Update with support for Dolphin 7.2 is released.

This version 1.1.1 doesn't include any updates for Dolphin 7.1.x, so no need to do anything if you're running 7.1.x.

For upgrades from Dolphin 7.1.x to 7.2:

Take a full site backup before upgrading if you don't already.

After the 7.2 upgrade, replace all the PKForum files from the v1.1.1 zip and recompile the PKForum language keys from Module installation page.

OR

From PKForum admin maintenance page, export the database.

Uninstall PKForum and do your 7.2 upgrade as usual.

After the 7.2 upgrade, Do a fresh PKForum install and import the exported file from before.

Go to PKForum admin settings page and set the settings back to what they were.

Done.

In version 1.1.1 (for Dolphin 7.2.x) we added "Joined: " before the date so it's more obvious :-)

Outside of adding 'Joined:', are there any enhancements or new features in this version or is it the same as before just with support of 7.2.x?

29 Oct 2015

Correct... there are no new features.  We decided to keep it simple and just tweaked the code so the module will work with D7.2.0 and D7.2.1 :-)

For some reason or another, after I finished upgrading to 7.2.1, I uploaded the 1.1.1 files and everything seems to look fine on the website BUT.. In the admin panel, I cannot access anything like Settings, Structure, etc.. I get a blank page.

If I re-upload the original version, I can access them. Can someone please advise how to fix this?

The issue is fixed for you.

It was not working for you cuz you're running php 5.3, I used some syntax thats for only 5.4+, my bad. I am used to working with those recent php versions by now. I will release an update tomorrow to fix this.

1. I can no longer choose multiple photos to insert

2. The photos are EXTREMELY large. On a mobile device it looks fine, but on a computer, I cannot even see where the edit post is.
