Ensure that you've applied all modifications correctly, i.e. that you followed all instructions literally. For example sometimes people are putting the codes below while an instructions tells to put it above some line.

Hello Anton,

after upgrading from D7.0.9 to D7.1 I'm facing with strange problem with the Messenger Sound Notification.

The problem is it won't stop playing, it beeps and beeps all the time. It stops only if I close all opend Messenger boxes of friends I normaly chat but they were not "On-line" while I tryed the M.S.N (Messenger Sound Notification)

What can I do, do you have any idea why is that?

Kind regards

Mayki

It is very odd behavior. We have no idea why that could happen. Try to reinstall the module.

We were testing it on a D7.1Beta with FireFox and Chrome - and no any issues were discovered.

I did, I reinstalled, I mean I folowed the instruction step-by-steb. triple checked that I did it right, but it is the same problem.

There are two situations:

- one is that there is no MSN at all no matter how much am I purgin cache from Dolphin and browser(s)

- the second is that it won't stop beeping no matter what.

It's a shame, because just blinking simply isn't enough.

I really hope for some solution about that.

Can you send us modified files to support at aqbsoft.com? We will verify that modifications were applied correctly.

Also what kind of browser (and of which version) are you using to test it?

I've took your files, placed them in my test server (which is actually Dolphin 7.1. Beta 1) and everything seems fine. No infinite loops detected.
May be there is something specific on your site (some other modification may be). If you c
ould provide me with your site's address and 2 test accounts then I can look at the problem in action.

Summary:

Guys from AQB Soft checked the files, and confirmed that the patch was applied correctly.

Today I'd created two test accounts for Alexander K. from AQB Soft, reloaded modified files for Messenger Sound Notification

and Alex checked the beep looping.

Much to my surprise (and Alex's) there was no constant beeping and it was working as it should.

Sometimes just a presence of someone else makes things works.

Thanks very much to guys from AQBSoft to take their time and helped me with this great function.

Regards,

Mayki

Hi Anton,

this mod is great and works perfect for my site but i just experienced a problem. I don't know if its because i am running on HTTPS but sometimes this appears in my logs and then the mod does not work under IE. In Firefox i never saw this error before.

It is an IE problem - sometimes it can't correctly work with a relative links. But we are unable to modify soundcontroller.swf to make it use absolute links, because that is a 3rd party software.

If that problem happens not on all pages in IE then you have to check those pages and ensure that they have the

<base href="http://www.yoursite.com/"></base>

tag set in the page's source.

Follow the install directions, but most important is to clear your cache after you do the install.

You may have to actually do a CTRL F5  to refresh your browser to get it to work after the install.

Just follow the installation manual literally. The very first instruction tells:

1. Upload contents of the `upload` folder to Dolphin's root folder.

which means that by following it literally the sound-config.xml file must go to the same folder where your Dolphin is installed.

It'a been a while since anyone has posted about this little "essential" mod.

I've installed it and everything is in the correct place. Unfortunately I can't get any sound.

I've cleared caches over and over.

There's been a lot of talk about sound-config.xml being placed in the root directory, but I'm assuming this is for older versions. The information contained in that file seems to now be in BxSimpleMessengerModule.php.

Has anyone else tested it on 7.3.3 and got it to work?

It's not a hard mod to install, but maybe I'm missing something.

The module plays a beep sound via an SWF object, so ensure that you have the Adobe Flash installed and active in your browser (nowadays Adobe Flash is being blocked by default in many browsers).

Hi Anton,

Many thanks for your quick response. I'm testing on Chrome and FF and as you suggested, Flash had been disabled on both. I've tried to get it working, but now I'm told that I have an old version and the sound still doesn't work.

As we're sometimes dealing with a thousand or more members, what chance do we have that any of them have Flash working on their browsers? Thus I find that having a sound to announce new messages may be something only one in one hundred people will ever hear.

I've decided to increase the number of blinks to 30, but I may even make it 50 so that my members will eventually realise a message has been received. The default four blinks isn't enough to attract their attention.

Thanks for your help.

All modern browsers are capable to play a sound without an SWF object, so the module must be reworked for the current state of things to get rid of the Flash dependency at all. We will try to find some spare time next week to do this.

That would be great Anton. In the meantime I've got it to work. I found the browser couldn't locate the file when I used the element inspector for something else on simple messenger.

I adjusted your code as follows and it now works perfectly.

Hi there,

Great idea regarding a notification sound.  Any idea when the code change from flash to HTML5 audio will be accomplished?

Thanks!

Quote · 12 Mar 2017

Done. The modification now works by using HTML5 audio tag and does not depend on the Adobe Flash anymore.

The biggest problem is that the beep is triggered every time someone navigates to a new page.  Is there any way to prevent this?  Using the EVO template.  Thanks!

It beeps every time a message is delivered to a window. And the Simple Messenger is organized in a way that it loads all its messages on a new page too. So with the current state of things it is impossible to prevent this without serious customization of the Simple Messenger module itself.
