Hi I'm searching for the same thing. I would like to upload documents and that other users be able to read it (not download it),...
Did you find something useful for this feature?
Thanks in Advance,
Papik

To do what the original question stated requires that the user has plugins installed on their browser. PDF files is easy because most browsers are shipping with PDF viewers. You simply add the pdf file and it will be viewable. For things like powerpoint slides, the user would need to install a powerpoint slide viewer in their browser. I think the only one is for IE; but not sure on this.
The best would be to see about converting to pdf and not try the ones where no browser plugin exists.

No files module, but there is http://www.boonex.com/m/dol12-document-scribd-ipaper
It is not listed as for 7.1.x, but a simple change to the config.php file is all that is needed.

Seems to be a good way that is fairly transparent to your users. Please read the module description though:
Notice: Admin must have a Scribd account to configure Document plug-in
Read documents on Scribd site via your network
If that is not a problem, then it sounds as if this module might fit your needs. Just note the requirements and make sure you can acquire a Scribd account before buying the module.

Also, if you don't want to purchase a module.. and this is by far much easier for me and this site.
You can get your account, upload your pdf, and embed in your site, there are many options for this as well.

Is this developer even a Boonex vendor anymore? http://ModMyCMS.com --> Dolphin Hacks &Mods |

But has stated they will not be upgrading their modules. So, if a future update of Dolphin breaks the module, then to bad so sad. In this case Newton has stated the module will install by changing the config.php file. Geeks, making the world a better place |
Ok, maybe I'm looking in the wrong place then:

I don't like the idea of having to go through a third party for this feature. However, it is nice and got me to thinking that including a link in the files template so that one could view the contents of the file before downloading would be a nice feature to add for my members. I have members that share pdf files but one can not preview; I did add where a photo could be added to the description of the file.
I got to poking around the net and found an open source project that might be of interest to others, FlexPaper; http://flexpaper.devaldi.com/
I might look into FlexPaper when I have more time.

Newton what's up, do you know what action needs to be checked off so that a member can edit their own doc? Everyday is a new beginning. |

Members have the option to edit the file, the PDF itself is not editable.
You can edit the title, description, categories and so on.
You would have to create a new file to change the document.
