Configure DNS Blocklists

Hi-

I wanted to add a couple of countries to my DNS Blocklist using the countries.nerd.dk. Unless somebody has a better idea. :) It seems to block china prettywell.

However, I cannot find the documentation how to fill in the fields...

Chain- spammers got that ;)

domain zone ?

url?

recheck url?

comments- got that

Active - got that...

I appreciate any ideas on how to keep unwanted people from posting crap onto my site :)

Thanks!

This is a great thread on stopping spammers cold in their tracks. I have employed the ideas in this thread and now only have one spammer. He's a manual spammer and I am zeroing in on him as well. Once I pinpoint him, I'm gonna go blow his house up.

Good Luck!

Here are values to add for countries based blocking in DNS blocklists.

Chain: spammers

Domain zone: XX.countries.nerd.dk. XX is country code, for example to block China, replace XX with cn, all country codes can be found here.

Return value127.0.0.2

URLhttp://countries.nerd.dk/

Recheck URL: leave empty, there is no recheck url for this DNSBL

Comment: your comment, for example full country name

Active: YES or NO

Alex-

Thanks! This seems to work pretty well. Once I enabled china, the default, spammers fell off the cliff.

It looks like Korea might be next ;)

Administration -> Tools -> Antispam Tools -> DNS Blocklists -> Add

Also make sure you have it turned on:

Administration -> Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Security -> Enable DNS Blocklists (checked)

I don't want to open another thread so i bring up this old one.

DNS Blocking was improved with ticket
http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/ticket/3195

and i wonder what this new setting is really controling. ("User join behaviour if listed in DNS Block Lists" -> Block, Approval)

I use full moderated joining, does this mean choosing "Block" refuses the joining completely and "Approval" passes him through but puts him into Approval status like when running moderated? If so this new option is more an enhancement for sites using the autojoin setting or? If you use moderated joining you should set it to "Block" so spammers never appear...?

The new option ("User join behaviour if listed in DNS Block Lists" -> Block, Approval) can be set to Approval for sites with automatic approval, so all members are automatically activated and suspicious profiles are sent to admin approval. Before it was always blocking behaviour.

If your site is already moderate all profiles, then setting this option to "Approval" makes no sense, then you can set to to "Block" to reject any attempt to join your site from suspicious ip, so admin will moderate only profiles which passes automatic validation.
