There's a forum post over in D7 about upgrading that has 82 posts in it so far. That is maddening to read because it's 82 posts on one page, some of them Sammie attitude sized. Would it really be all that difficult to limit posts per page to say 25 and then give a page call for the additional pages? This will result in less bandwidth/cpu/memory usage for the server as each page is called up while giving more page views for ads to be put on for sites using them to generate revenue.
I recall a ticket for this being pushed back to Dolphin 7.1. There's also a post by someone in the forums who managed to do it themselves, but I recall the steps being maddening.
BoonEx Certified Host: Zarconia.net - Fully Supported Shared and Dedicated for Dolphin
I haven't looked at doing this for my site yet, I was just venting on the forums here. Eventually if a thread runs long enough it will get to long to load effectively for most users. I might have to look up those steps and see if they can get a little less maddening.

AlexT says: "We will add forum's pagination in 7.1"
PS: If possible do not write me personally, please try to ask on the forum first
The only way we'll ever get pagination for the forums is to continue to add posts to this thread until their server locks up.
yes we need this, what a basic function this is and yet it's missing. :)
My intention with Boonex is to bring my existing site over to it, and import most the existing data site over to it. Ive been working with a test site and importing data. Some of the forum posts go to 200+ posts. There's no way I'll be using Boonex in production without forum pagination.
Agree 100%, forum needs pagination. I have no idea how they will do it in XSL but there might be some way. It will be really good to see how they add it.
you may not think so but this is important enough to get a fix in place immediately. Those of us who run productions sites using dolphin have to suffer the lost traffic and frustration when a discussion really gets going... suddenly it comes to a halt because the thread is too long. This is a great way to kill a community and turn site owners against Dolphin.
Promising a core feature like forum pagination in the next release is silly - we need it now. I do not know of ANY other forum script without this feature. You probably should dump Orca and port over SMF or PHPBB to make the forum a usable part of the community.
Awesome! I don't know if I'm more impressed with the possibility of finally having pagination in the forums - or the fact that you found a developer comfortable working with the forum code!
I don't understand why everyone thinks forum pagination is a google SEO killer? Seems fairly straight forward how it would index, especially with the way newton demonstrated the links.
Page one content is found on topic-title-0.html, if it never leaves the initial page then cool. If it does, the additional content gets indexed on topic-title-1.html. There's no shift in content from page to page that would cause google to explode, only the addition of pagination links which should get indexed properly.
Any possibility of reversing the page order? When I set up forums, I like the last page to be presented first over older pages. The reason being that the last page is the newest posts so when revisiting I can immediately see the new posts without have to page to the last page.

I'll ask..

That looks good. At least I can click and go to the last page. The horrible AutoPilot solution has no indication of multiple "pages" and you have to click and scroll to the bottom for each page over and over before you can get to the last page. This is going to be a great improvement to the Forum; and Andrew thought the AutoPilot solution was grand.

CTRL F5 and check again, just completed another update until tomorrow.
looks like pagination for the forums was just a pipe dream, no wait, my wishes have been granted; I am so glad, now my members no longer are complaining about the weirdness of the forums. they love the new changes.. I could not be happier, no more auto pilot to screw up the format.
Thanks Denre for your hard work to get us to pagination,
LOL, Looks cool. I missed it cuz it wasn't names right. I renamed this script years ago. Should have been 'Killer Fish Forum' (if anyone says an Orca isn't a fish again, I'm gonna slap em!) ... Buying it now....

Payment Sent. How do we get the Module? It's not available for Download?
Denre is in the Netherlands, asleep ATM, lol.
Sorry, I thought orders were processes automatically on here.
They should but it unfortunately conflicts with some other PayPal products of mine, meaning I have to set this manually (just as much a pain for me). Never the less, I manually processed your order and send you a message about it a short while ago.
Ps. Thanks all for highliting this product :)

Well, some modules mature quickly and this module is one of them. With the help of some early adopters we now have a stable module that is tested in multiple languages and with some other 3rd party modules as well. This means the early adopting time comes to an end and from Tuesday the 1st of October this module will be for sale for it's normall price of $35.
I like to thank everyone for their help, support and most of all patience to get to this result. Next up is pagination in RSS feeds, which is much requested as well.

My version of the forums now also support alerts for:
- post - change - delete_post - delete_topic - new_topic
This is handy if you want to use site notifications or need interaction with other (3rd party) modules. For example points or credits.
More to come...
Are you saying that you've got forums emitting the standard site notifications, which can show up in notifications (spy) or the timeline, something that ilbellodelweb, pretty good programmer in my book, said was impossible?

I'm saying alerts. I have not yet looked at spy messages and the timeline. However since alerts are working, the spy and timeline should be possible too.
