ATTN: Anyone at Boonex

Put the damn search box back on the Market pages already.  What are you guys waiting for?

Whoever is managing this project appears to be ignoring the option of reverting to the 'old' Marketing page until the 'new' one has been fixed.

There's a large search icon in the header, which is the rationale. Doesn't stop me from heading to the market now and then and wondering what happened to the search box I always used.

At the very least, they could expand it to show the input and "Search...".

Until Deano mentioned it, it would never have occurred to me to click on the little magnifying glass..... then click on it again to bring up the menu.... then click on it again to select 'market'.... then click on it again to focus the input field.... then type what you want to search for.... then click on it again to do the search.

Some things are best left alone.

Don't forget to put the "updated" back .. I have no clue who's updating their mods or Who release new mods...

That is wrong. It should be defaulting to all.

 Yes, I even posted something along the lines of couldn't find... Only to find out that it was the drop-down menu that was preventing me from seeing things.  I don't recall with the old way of needing a tutorial to know how to use the Market LOL.  They really will need to put up a tutorial on how to use the Market.

I'd rather have a new block on one side, and a featured block next to it. Huh, that layout sounds familiar...

I just noticed that a lot of Modzzz listing is not showing the icons for the modules, they have that down arrow in a circle.  I use the icons to help find modules in a vendor's listing so I hope that is not happening across the market.

Yes i noticed as well. Seems it is happening on entries that have a thumbnail that was uploaded before the market changed the thumbnail system. Over sized images.

You could just shoot modzzz a message and let him know to re-upload his thumbnail images so they get properly sized to the new format.

Maybe boonex will correct that, but knowing them, they will leave it to force the developers to correct and update their market entries.

Just made an update, search box is back, "New & noteworthy" powered by new formula is up (automatic, not Boonex-curated) and a different homepage arrangement is there, too.

We're testing the update now, so any feedback is welcome. 

Yes Andrew. Thanks. Ok. things that have been noticed.

First selector item. All Products. If you select something else such as New & Noteworthy you get a page with 43 entries for that section. There is no section header on that page, and no link to Show All.

Second which we already mentioned is the problem with the thumb nails. Seems if no thumb nail in the proper size is available it is showing the default Arrow Down thumbnail instead of resizing the one on the market page to the proper size. Not sure if you can correct that or if your going to force developers to re-upload the product thumbnail images.

 How about adding a page where us members can make suggestions for new Dolphin modules?  The suggestions should be required to be well written, with a set of well defined requirements.  The suggestion could be reviewed by Boonex staff to make sure it is clearly defined.   Then, once a suggestion is posted, other members can vote on the suggestion as to whether or not they'd find it useful, and more importantly... buy it.  Comments might be useful, as long as they don't create a lot of 'background noise' that detracts from the conveyance of the idea.  It might be a good way for developers to see what the community really wants, as opposed to what the developers think the community should have.

 Yeah, something like this would be really good and allow the webmasters / buyers to share their ideas and what they in particular are looking for etc.

 Do you think that this may be down within forums? Say, a stickily topic with rules laid out specifying the type of posts and inviting everyone to use voting feature?

Yes, I wonder if the Extensions Development forum is visited very often by the developers; maybe something new in that regard.

Yes, that is what I was saying.  I have posted requests for full functional modules in that forum but I don't think the developers look at that forum; so maybe something better.  Cheese whiz in a handbag HL. LOL.

A market page is the way to do this.  You of course want to restrict posts on this page to ideas that make sense, and that are well presented.... that's why I said review them before making them public.  As a market page, it would be a natural draw to developers looking for a profitable venture.  It gets the community more involved in third party development.  It will serve to bring fresh ideas to the forefront.  We used to have a section like that... it was called blogs.  You killed the blogs though, and that was the beginning of the end to intelligent discussions about a lot of things.  It's a pity.... a lot of good things around here started as a blog post. 

What I am suggesting, is a way to call attention to good ideas that can be made even better by community input, and then have a better chance of coming to life.  It can't happen in the forums.... history has proved that to me.  Fresh ideas for Dolphin add-ons can bring more value to the core product, and create new and challenging opportunities for developers.  It's a win for everybody.

 My opinion is that this could be done with something like a ticket system. Also would be good to make autosearch when user is typing offer title: let's say, you type suggestion title "Market search functionality" and it searches if something similar exists already to avoid duplicates. I hope you guys will understand what I mean :)

I don't really understand why there is a combined new & noteworthy first, then latest is 3rd down. That's interesting.

It seems that the ranking of Providers is based on "thumbsup" only and do not include the % of positiv feedback.

I think its important how much % of positiv feedback a provider gets!

ohhh, and a lot of modules dont show the icon correctly ...

This double posting keeps happening to me at random times too .... BoonEx forum bug ?

The last few days in particular I have noticed it happen several times and had to delete the extra posts!

 Oh, yeah.. didn't noticed this one, clicked Submit just once, I think it's a forum bug.

The current Module version should be displayed next to likes/unlikes.  It's very frustrating to see a module pop up as being recently updated, only to find out that the developer only made a change to the module's market page and not necessarily updated the application itself.  It's a waste of my time to check the module's page and see what version is current - I have over 50+ modules installed.

Of course if the module developers use the platform that reports into my installation when there's an update available...

Well, it does sound like a solid idea to me, and we'll look into how we can implement it effectively.

For some reason, our mod icons are not showing up after the recent Market changes, is there any specific field we need to set in order for the icon to show up?

Just delete the current icon and upload a new one. You do not even need to save the product after. Just uploading a new thumbnail image and setting it as the thumbnail is all that is needed.

It happens on older entries where the thumbnail was uploaded before the new thumbnail sizes went into effect during one of the market updates several months ago.

Talking about the market products... There's no downloadable files you can provide when you offer services such like rebranding, but the system keeps asking me "Please add a main package for the product". Is there anything I missed?

 Create a text file and put "Hello, delete this" in it, zip it and upload it. You're done :P

 Or, better yet, writeup a service agreement outlining terms, responsibilities, guarantees, etc. 

As you can see on the screenshot the providers page ranking is not correct in my way of understanding.

Providers with 0% feedback are ranked higher then providers with nearly 100%. It seems that the ranking

is based on "thumbs up" only.

What do you think??

I want to pick this thread up again since some of my customers was asking me recently about "where to click" on the market search because "there's no button next to search".

There's a lot of people here who are not really familiar with computers or web, so they are looking for some kind of "submit" button instead of hitting Enter key. Some small button like "Go!" should work for this, I guess.

Also would be great to leave a search field on the search results page as well: so you'll not need to "go back" to make another search. Imagine always clicking "back" on google in order to make another search.

Also I think would be appropriate to reset filters after refreshing the Market page: for example, I picked some category, then went somewhere else, let's say to Forums, then I decided to back to Market - but I see only a couple modules there and getting confused, because picked category is still sitting in my cookies or something.

I agree.  I wish we had some kind of ticket system for issues with boonex.com.  There used to be a specific forum for this sort of thing, but it's gone.  Boonex lets just about everyone create tickets in trac, but none of us have a good way to post issues about boonex.com in a way that we know will get noticed, and attended to.  Every time I have a gripe about something, all I can think to do, is make a forum post with a title like this one, and hope someone is looking.  I would very much prefer a more professional way of calling attention to troubles with this site.

 Yes, Providers ranking is based on thumbs-up only. It's more like "popularity" score, if you will. Now, PRODUCTS score on browsing pages depends primarily on positive feedback percentage, with small extra %% added for reaching higher provider level (established +1%, popular +2%, top +3% - these are invisible, but are still factored-in). So, in effect, it is more important to have good feedback.

Another trick is that only feedback from the last 12 months is considered for the formula. Thus, Providers have to maintain high level of service to stay on top. 

I will post more details as soon as we upload a few more updates (profile, product page and some general enhancements).

 Ah... well... you can tell we're gearing up for "live search" feature. Those normally don't have the button.

One more thing to be added here...

Just tried to find all mobile modules on the market for my customer, was acting as a regular user, but really can't figure how to show all modules in selected category. When I choose "mobile" in categories, it's just filtering the list of "new & noteworthy", "Staff Picks", "Latest" and so on. But there's no way just to show all modules in one single category. 

Also when select a category, let's say "mobile", then click on any module and click 'back' in browser, it still shows category "mobile" as selected, but all modules shows in initial mode (not only from "mobile"). Then, to show modules only from "mobile"  category again, I have to choose another category (to activate the filter), then choose "mobile" category again.. Ewhhh.. 

Boonex, could you please test it as regular user? Or ask some of your friends to check it and give you a feedback?

How to work with it? Why it's so confusing? Am I missing something? 

Also these days I've noticed that I'm selling only modules that appears on home market page sections. If today "module #1" will appear on "Staff picks" or "Recently updated" or "Most popular" or any of other sections, only this module will sell. Not other modules that you have to search for.

Try to search for keyword "forum" and expect to find modules related to forum. You will find templates, some mobile modules, language packs, "multiadmin access", "books", "recipe", "mobile chat" and other 6 pages of stuff, not related to forum. But they have the word "forum" in description, on the line with the module support forum link.
